I took calculus, but not statistics in college. I just graduated this year, and I am applying to UCLA now. I called the admissions department to ask about the statistics requirement, and they said I just have to send an email to admissions saying I intend to take a statistics class sometime this year, and then they will still consider my application. So does this mean that, if I were accepted, my acceptance would really be contingent on taking a statistics class? Does anyone have experience with this?

Shoot, I forgot about this. I've already received a secondary from them and nowhere on my primary do I show stats or indicate I'll be taking it. Although I do have math through linear algebra and differential equations, and I'm a grad student who's pretty fluent in biostats. I wonder if you can petition out of it?

"Hey SDN, do I have to fulfill a requirement or can I just lie and say that I plan on doing it?"

Is higher level maths necessary for stats?

No, you can take stats before calc, but I chose to do higher level math instead of stats. Now I guess I'l be taking stats next semester even though I've already taught myself the material.
