I don't know. I havent been contacted yet to submit the secondary. My mailing date was 8/13. I would just email admissions and ask.

Yes. It is not any more complicated than many of the other secondary applications schools require.

actually its twice as complicated as UCSF's and 3x as complicated as Penn's IMO.

The lame part is we have to fill out all of our information again on most of these secondaries, including education, volunteer experience, honors, etc. What was the ~$1200 I paid to AADSAS supposed to be for???? :)

I would think of completing secondary apps as a test to show how much you really want the school(s). If you don't even have the patience to fill out the app, why should you expect the school/adcom to take their time to process your app or evaluate you.

True. I just meant "why fill out AADSAS?". It's meant to streamline the app process. It seems like many of these secondaries would be sufficient information to apply to the school directly without needing AADSAS.

Forgive me if the post sounded like I was whining. I tried to add a smiley face to show I was mostly kidding around and not complaining (tough to convey on a forum post).

Noemi Benitez, coordinator at UCLA says in an email:

"Be advised that our committee begins to review complete files in late September."

The UCLA secondar is a little harder to fill out than UCSF's because the form is a little messed up, but trust me though I am one to talk they review that secondary carefully and thoroughly they want to know that there is more then stats to a person. And Noemi is an awesome person very helpful and nice.

for the box they give you to "describe details of any significant community service", did you guys simply describe your activites/responsiblities or did you also elaborate on things like what your motivation/goals were, what you learned, how it relates to your future practice as a dentist etc?

I just described my activities that didn't fit in the spaces above due to the format.

Generally though, I interpret it to mean that they want you to describe the activities listed above it since they only gave you space for dates, names of supervisors, etc.

so u just describe activities like on aadsas (ie. resume format)? or can you also go more in depth in an essay format and talk about what you learned, relevance to dentistry etc?

Question, did you guys send all your transcripts?

".3).. ..Official undergraduate transcripts from schools where you completed prerequisites. A separate set of transcripts must be mailed directly to our office in addition to the copies submitted to AADSAS. Transcripts may be sent by the registrar's office or with the secondary application only if they are in sealed envelopes."

In the email it sounds like it's only transcripts that involved prereq classes.....I'm mainly wondering because I took 2 community college courses during one summer but they weren't for prereqs so I'm debating if their intent was to send this as well.

Not sure JBieber. But I take it to mean they don't want much elaboration. Plus, they don't give you much space. I would save the rest for your essays later.

I suppose if you have the space though, why not take the chance to talk about what you learned?

Hi guys!
On UCLA secondary they are asking whether I am interested in DDS PhD program. If I say yes, does it mean that they will ONLY look at me as an applicant for this 7yr program or I will still be considered as a 4yr -DDS applicant?? Thank you.

How much did you all write for the why UCLA question? Like a paragraph? I am having trouble answering that question. The main reason I want to attend is because I have read about their high specialty match rates, pass/fail grading system, and great faculty. Should I write about this? I mean, it is better than my second option - writing out the lyrics to California Girls by Katy Perry.

ucla has pretty heavy emphasis on research.. so if you have any research experiences and possible projects that you wanna jump in on may be you can mention that?

Id like to know the answer to this question too!!! I read this paragraph on the UCLA website but don't know if its conclusive:

"Applicants may apply for a combined D.D.S./Ph.D. or advanced certificate training/Ph.D. by making simultaneous application for graduate study in Oral Biology and for admission to the School of Dentistry and to the certificate programs. Applicants must submit the Application for Graduate Admission and the application required for the D.D.S. or advanced certificate training, and must be accepted by both of the concerned units in order to participate in a combined program."

What do you guys think? Are you only considered for 7 year if you put yes or are you processed under 4 year but can apply to the phd too?

We can't do everything for you. Do you have additional comments? If so, write them. If not, leave them blank. Just think of something else about you unless you feel everything has been explained.

Part 12: Why are you applying to the UCLA School of Dentistry?
Please be as specific as possible.
