it depends on how involved you want to be. $65 a year is nothing compared to our other expenses. i think its a good way to make connections.

How does ASDA help make connections? Do they have conferences?

L8DY, Eye, and Me were all at the same interview coming from UCDavis...and we are all accepted and going to UCLA in sept. I have not much school pride, but seeing this, i gotta say -> GO AGGIES, MUTHA FU*KA...

k, now back to business about laptop requirement..
1. whats with the "Expansion Slots 2 Type II or 1 Type III PC Card Slots"
most affordable laptops only have 1 Type II/I Card Slot..
2. Is this 15" XGA + TFT Active Matrix really required?

Can any current students give us any advice on how closely should we follow this spec. sheet? What are the absolute necessary components?

Congrats to all three of you. I agree with you. It looks like UC Davis has excellent students. All three of you have great DAT scores.

UC Davis... pretty good school, probably second best in the area behind CHICO STATE!!!! 🙂 😀 I could probably help you guys out in school next year, because surely there is some prerequisite material that your undergrad was just not good enough to cover. Laptop... Why do we need that specified screen size? I want to get a tiny 12" that I can carry around like its nothin. And I don't even know what the heck those slots are that they want... what the hell are the for?

This sounds fun, I'll play too. I'm a Vietnamese (as you can probably tell from my avatar if you paid attention in high school history class) male. I enjoy long walks on the beach and drinking sangrias while smokin' hookah.

I am actually the "reader/writer" for MCShow2 (he tells me what to type). My name is Steve, you will meet me next year as I will be taking his notes, reading them to him every night, and reading his tests aloud to him as well. I am sort of like an interpreter- only we speak the same language. 😉

He (mcshow) says that no, chico was not the number one party school this year, and some of his teachers were pissed saying, "at least we were good at and recognized for SOMETHING!". 😉

ucsb is up there too! 'cause IV is such an ideal college town and all the city college kids live there too.

if you like to gamle, we must organize a poker game. when i was in boston doing my masters program about 5 of us had a weekly poker game. looking back on it now, it's what got us through!! and it was fun!

PM drphobie, i think he's a second year. he should know more about this laptop specs.

from what i heard, they made these requirements but it was never checked. so if you have a decent laptop hold off on getting a new one becuase the one you have might be just fine.

Studios in Westwood are hard to come by, and they cost at least $1000 a month. I used to live in a "Jr. One Bedroom" which is like a one bedroom but uses a curtain to replace one of the four walls to the bedroom, so I guess it counts as a studio? Anyways, that piece of crap cost me and my roommate $1050 and this was three years ago. There's cheaper studios out in Santa Monica but that means you would either have to take the bus or drive to campus.

EyeAmCommi, are you still hoping to get into Columbia? I read your comment about brown nosing Dr. McManus 😛 (I tried to Private Message you but your mailbox is full)

Anything in Westwood (the immediate area around ucla) is going to be over $1000 for a studio. You can find cheaper apts if you move further away from campus like south of Santa Monica BLvd. Another cheaper area where a lot of students live is Palms, about 15-20 min away but the area isnt as nice. Even in less expensive areas, most studios will probably not be any cheaper that $850 or so.

I just want to hear from them but I'm happy with UCLA. I wouldn't give up this acceptance for any other acceptance that may or may not come my way, even Columbia's. But before I got my UCLA acceptance phone call, I did send Dr. McManus a little e-mail telling him how spectacular Columbia was 😀 .
