UCLA vs Stanford

How would you compare these two programs? The low down I get is that both are similar research oriented, tertiary care centers...UCLA is more "malignant" and Stanford has a better rep on the East coast. UCLA suppossedly has more depth in its varous medicine subspecialties and blows Stanford away in US News (5th overall hospital vs. 16th but everyone knows its a flawed ranking). Yet Stanford seems to have slightly better fellowship placement. I also hear Stanford is harder to get into than UCLA, though the overall training may be better at UCLA.

Any additions, validations, or contradictions of what I have said would be greatly appreciated.
