UCLA waitlist (2006 ed.)

Just out of curiosity.

Is anyone in at UC Davis but still waiting for UCLA? I'm on the Davis waitlist and am hoping to get your spot! = )
 
So I called the admissions office today, and found out more news for all of us. Unfortunately, I was told that the class is full at the moment. Our files will be under constant review, so that the committee knows who to select once a vacany arises. They do expect movement throughout the summer though, so for those of us who don't have to start medical school soon, there is still hope.

what do you think "movement" is? do you think they would tell you if one person had been taken off that "movement" had occurred? just curious and over-analyzing this, I'm sure.

I think movement means they have offered new acceptances. Just a guess though...
 
the admissions office explained that "movement" occurred when someone withdrew their acceptance. Two weeks ago when they said "little movement," they meant one withdrawal. I hope there is more movement this summer!
 
I called since my status changed today and they said I'm on "second priority hold". I thought it was unranked. Did anybody else get a "priority" rating??

is this the first status change since your interview? that would seem to match other ppl who received the "hold" (second priority) letter versus the "unranked waitlist" (first priority) letter. otherwise, if you were moved to hold from unranked waitlist, or were changed from hold to second priority hold, that's new to me. both are "unranked" as far as the general masses are told. the ranking/priority topic has been discussed here before, try reading this thread from the beginning. goodluck =)

Thanks, if I wasn't already in somewhere, I'd probably be bugging the crap out of them. Anyway, a friend of mine who does call and talk to UCLA admissions peeps often and also hasn't heard anything in 3mos tells me they aren't very hopeful. In other words, Plan B. BUT you never know... cuz we've all heard the stories of that student who gets pulled off the waitlist 1st day of class!!!

yeah...my final letter sent 03/07 and no news. i think i've resigned in my head to stop hoping/actively dreaming about this after this coming july4 weekend. who knows how many times i've analyzed the threads for 05 and 04 to count up the number of ppl who've gotten off....not hopeful...especially this late. anyway, you're right- it's on to plan b.... . at least, lucky for me, i do realize my fortune in even having a plan b. good luck guys.
 
Has anyone heard anything this week? Unfortunately, I can only stay on this wait list for one more week, and then I'll be starting medical school somewhere else. I even signed my lease today. Though it has been depressing, I still hope that someone out there who isn't planning on going to UCLA will decide to tell them very soon.

But on the brighter side, after next week, I guess the chances for the rest of you are better, and I wish you all the best (especially for those who are still waiting to be accepted to any medical school).

If you don't mind me asking, which school will you be starting at?
Does anyone have any idea how many schools will be starting between now and August 1st? Is this common?
 
I'll be starting at the Cleveland Clinic/Case Program. Look on the thread "official start dates for 2006" to see which schools will be starting before August 1st. I think there are quite a few that start the last week of July as well.

From what my friends and what others have told me in regards to the UCLA waitlist there seems to be a lot of movement those first two weeks in August before classes start.

I called UCLA yesterday (?), and basically heard the same generic msg. The unranked list just doesn't look promising... so best to have a Plan B. :luck: :luck:

do you guys know who you've talked to when you called? i called for the first time today and the woman was courteous.... although she hung up after i thanked her for answering my first Q and before i could ask my next. guess they're tired of answering the same questions over and over. can't blame her. must suck to be working today...although the only reason i have time to start getting myself all worked up over this is bc i have the day off and no work to distract me. ha.

anyway, does anybody know when they start orientation/ first day of class? i saw on the 'start of school' thread it says aug.14, but i couldn't tell if that was the first day or just orientation.

Foundations week starts the week of August 7th... white coat is Friday August 11th and class starts August 14th...
 
did anyone else have a status change on 7/5/06?

I feel oddly lost by the change...but hopeful

So here is the story--

I moved to LA over the long weekend(assumption that I would be starting at USC in a month) and forgot to change my address online for UCLA until this morning. I was too busy moving. Anyway, because the packet was going to my old place I decided I needed to call the admissions office. The result, this Trojan is now a Bruin.... Waitlist movement is still occuring and I am, as they say, happy as a clam.

Too bad I already bought parking and other things at USC but o well whats $500 vs 20k right?

but wait!... more! more! need more info! now that you're in...can you spill the beans on everything you did? seems like you called a lot... what else? what'd you send, who'd you talk to, who'd you bribe, etc? and can i ask (with much embarassment on my part) if you wouldn't mind sharing roughly your stats... so that i have a better idea if i'm even in the game.

Dont know if this matters but my GPA had a upward trend 3.3-4 freshman year, 3.7 soph, 4.0 Jr, 4.0 Sr

Biology Major UCSD

What I Did?
1)Interviewed late october sent LOI early Dec
2)Waitlisted 3/3/06
3)Sent updated transcripts in March along with a second updated LOI
4)Contacted my interviewer Dr. Fulco in May asking if there was anything I could do at this point to improve my chances...he politely forwarded the email to the dean of admissions and replied that there was little I could do at this point that would change things other than showing continued interest. On a side note... UCLAstudent will understand that he enjoyed my aside in the email which catalogued my experience feeding a squirrel two UCLA marked hazelnuts near the on campus dorms.
6)From then on I ve changed my address and called two times, once in early june and once today.

Anything else please ask, if there is anything I can do to help let me know
 
Oh my gosh, Dr. Fulco is so cute with the hazelnuts. He seems like he'd be a fun interviewer! He's hilarious in lecture. :laugh:

So are you going to be moving again, SS?

At the moment I am staying with my grandma in santa monica and I am probably going to try and help my family out by helping manage her deteriorating memory(which now requires someone from the family to check in on her often to make sure bills are paid and meds are taken etc). The balance of this scale is interesting

save money and help the family are the +positives

living with family for a year or two after 4 years of freedom in undergrad will be a tough switch for my sanity as I am one of those independent sorts

Props to you these stats are awesome! Mine aren't even close so I feel pretty good right now that I made it onto UCLA's waitlist. Honestly, I believe this whole admission process is pretty crazy... you just can't really tell most of the time. CONGRATS on your UCLA acceptance... haha I passed up USC too. We'll be classmates 🙂 GO BRUINS!!!

im still on UCLA's waitlist... final decision sent 04/05. i got accepted to DREW two weeks after my interview. funny cuz i heard from them both on the SAME DAY!

I GOT IN!!!!!!! I just received a call this morning!! Oh my God, I'm gonna be a bruin! Acceptances are still out there, don't give up hope like I did.
