UConn_SDM,
I don't know where all the energy to give to us is coming from, but as always

😀 :luck:

Ha Ha. Have you seen what time I post to some of these threads - middle of the night. Residency doesn't start until July 1st - I hate to say it but after craving time off I've officially exceeded my capacity to do nothing - I am officially bored! But happy to help when time permits.

Hey there.....I'm starting fourth year at UConn (can't believe I'm actually saying that!). All I can tell you is that those BMS exams were a b@llbuster. Seriously, don't underestimate them.....study your butt off. Like, UConn_SDM, I spent my weekends studying. I needed to. THe way I prepared for those exams was to keep on top of the material on a daily basis, be organized and memorize absolutely everything I could in the weeks leading up to the exam. That would land me a score in the 70s.

I know there have been big time changes in what materials you guys will have access to, so telling you to study notes and powerpoints like crazy ain't gonna help. The incoming class needs new strategies and the class entering second year will probably be best able to guide you. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have the power points.....to have to assemble everything on your own has got to be enormously time consuming, but there's got to be a way. Wish I could be more help with this!

Would any second, third, fourth, or other year dental/medical student care to comment (in some detail 😛 ) how they approached studying for the tests of the BMS curriculum? Are there any trends in the questions asked? Here it is mentioned that these are the sorts of questions:

Are these similar questions to the NBDE 1 and therefore it would behoove us to become familiar board exam questions? Any input is greatly appreciated 🙂

I would second the answers that you've already gotten to these questions. The most important thing to remember is that if you are going to stand out, make sure it's for something positive! You DO NOT want to be the rebellious kid who shows up a second time to clinic with an earring after it having been mentioned to you. Believe me, you'll catch hell and they'll thoroughly enjoy torturing you. There's always one such person in every class.....I'm sure you don't want it to be you! It's critical to heed warning and to pick up on social cues. Trust me, we've got a girl in our class who I swear is going to be held back solely for cluelessness in this regard.

Just the fact that you are asking us these questions ahead of time shows you are on the ball tho! I don't think you'll be "that person" in your class!

brother or sister...
you rock!!

that advice is very motivating and very welcomed!
i have a couple of specific tidbit questions if you don't mind answering them (= they're pretty silly questions =)

1) what is appropriate attire at uchc?

2) i tend to pick up a cigarette habit during stressful times; would my smoking make me an outcast?

3) would you advise against a guy wearing earings, or is the campus ok with that?

thanks
good luck everyone and enjoy the summer! :luck:

I'm looking for some advice from all you UConn experts. UConn is my first choice being a Mass. resident (for tuition reasons obviously) so I'm wondering what you think of my chances. I know UConn is uber-competitive so I wonder how I stack up. GPA: 3.5 DAT AA: 20, TS:21, PAT 19. You think that's enough to get at least get a strong consideration?

I'd say you have a decent shot, particularly with a rigorous undergraduate degree. Another consideration is the quality of your letters of Rec..
Go Red Sox.
