I currently go to Uconn so here is the deal. Demanding sure everybody hears it if you come for the interview. We are becoming doctors so anywhere you go it is going to be demanding. I still live a normal life and go out and play sports and find time to enjoy myself. School is going to be difficult wherever you decide to go.

I have never been drug or alcohol tested, i think the faculty are great and have never once been physically or mentally abused. The faculty in a small school like this go beyond just being a professor and will help to work around personal conflicts and be there after hours if needed.

I like this school and am very happy i chose it. If you decide to come here you will find out for yourself. dont believe the hype.

feel free to ask me any questions.

It sounds like 1st year.

First time I read that as "The faculty have never been abused". I thought to myself, I've never considered evaluating a school based upon whether the faculty had a rough upbringing, lol.

I was accepted and STRONGLY considering. There wasn't a moment while I was there interviewing that I disliked something. Well...except one of the students I met, she thought she was god's gift. But that doesn't bother me.

Can you comment on the lack of ranking and the impact on specialization and competition amongst the class?

What's a typical day like?

What is the week like before one of the 6 exams?

I'd like the opportunity to do as many externships as possible. I think it's important to make a decision yes or no before entering further training. How much time would I have to participate in those. Let's assume a simple 2 week externship.

Thanks

i am a second year. before a test all you do is study because they are big tests. in the beginning of a section you can take it easy and do normal studying a couple weeks before the test you have to buckle down, there is a lot of material. typical day class from 8-12 and 2 days a week in the afternoon with dental classes. i like not being ranked and having the pass fail system, no real reason just like it, you pass one test and move on to the next.

Hi,

One of main concerns about UConn is the patient pool. When I was there it was dead empty and students were just sitting around.

Help please

How do you feel about holding your graduation ceremony where your professors park their cars ?

lmao, students also park their cars there.

lol, that graduation really scarred you, and you weren't even the one graduating!

I noticed during my UConn interview that the curriculum seems very rigid. There is little flexibility unlike other schools. What is that like for the current UConn students?

Also, while I was there I wasn't able to get a feeling for the culture and interaction between students. We spent 3 hours with Dr. Thibodeau and only met 2 students. What are relationships like between the class?

Third, the preclinical facilities are not as nice or as up-to-date as other dental schools. Do you feel that that's affected your clinical training?

Finally, how many students get into their FIRST choice of specialty program?

Thanks!!! I appreciate it.

I would appreciate those that are bashing UConn to give more specific examples of what is so emotionally scarring.

I enjoy hearing both the positives and the negatives of the school. It's a big decision and I want both sides explained.

Take this person's comments with a grain of salt... he/she's only been at UConn for like 1 year 4 months. You only start really interacting (and having to deal) with instructers once you get to clinic. That's when emotional scarring (and anal raping) generally occurs.

But I don't go to uconn or anything.

if you need answers for questions like this then you might want to consider posting a thread on "dental forum" where there is an abundance of dental students

BTW if anyone knows the anser to the questions above feel free to PM me

gracias mucho

Yeah, there has been plenty said about UConn on the Dental Forum, but it's the 3rd and 4th years that have bad things to say, and say that it starts in clinic. The underclassmen defend the school.

Hmmm...I was going to add some links to the UConn threads, but there are too many of them. Happy searching, there's plenty to be found.
