I need some help deciding between UConn and NYU. I looked at the costs of the two schools and it comes out to Uconn costing more the first 1year than NYU, and then about the same for the next 3 years (I'll be living at home for NYU)

Keep in mind that I'd like to practice in NYC and I also dont know how to drive yet. (For UConn i'd need a car).

Anything that comes to mind will be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm going to UConn myself (90% sure as of now) but it sounds like you've more-or-less made up your mind to go to NYU. Given your circumstances, it'll make more sense to go to NYU than UConn.

My vote goes to NYU given your case.

Can you guys elaborate as to why you'd choose the school that you chosed? Thanks!

You really need to pick a school on your own. It is a huge investment, and nobody knows you like you do. Make a pros and cons list and work from there. Work out the total cost difference and see if that makes a difference. I think you will find people who will root for each school, so it won't really help you.

I would be in your same situation, but I got waitlisted at uconn. I don't know how to drive yet either haha and car insurance scares me. In your case depending on how badly you want to live away from home/how much you liked Connecticut, I would go to NYU. Uconn may be a better school "per se" as some think but if you go to NYU you have NYC at your fingertips, can create much more connections with dentists in NYC and can start up a patient base early during your 3rd and 4th year for your future practice (this is my speculations). However, if you are considering a specialty very very seriously like ortho...I would go to uconn. If not, I would go to NYU as it will set you up for general practice in NYC better (more diverse clinical experience..300k patient base...connections in NY) and will still allow you to specialize if you want to work hard enough for it.

Also maygyver is right...it is ultimately your decision! good luck👍
