Hi Folks!
I just got the alternate email today. So, no rejection. Yay! More waiting. Argh! I also got a separate email that said that my file was reviewed earlier this morning...so for those of you who still haven't heard anything, they could still be reviewing files! ^_^ Good luck guys!

Oh and congrats, verbalassasin!
 
BTW....just spoke with admissions and they said at this point the alternate list is NOT ranked.

Does anyone happen to know if UCSD reveals any information on alternate list rank in the next few months? I did a search for last year, but didn't really find anything.

they are quite strict with the ranking...well keeping it a secret at least....but id keep up hope, i remember alot of people at my interview said there is good movement

I think this may have been answered already, but does the number of accepted applicants (in the 2nd column) include those who were originally waitlisted after their inteviews? Thanks!
 
Hi, I'm kind of new to this, but I thought I'd try posting. I called UCSD today, and they told me that there hasn't been much movement on the alternate list so far.
 
I think it includes wl peeps too, not just immediate accepts post interview (if that's your question). Otherwise, it would be a gamble on just how many would matriculate. As for how many interviewed each of those years... no idea. 🙁
 
I called last week; there's no waitlist movement at the moment.

wierd... ~13 sdn people have been accepted to uci in the last 5 weeks!
You would think the UCs would have similar WL movement at similar times.
But then again, ucd is making the summer wl right now (peeps said it will be sent monday or a few days later)..
wierd... just weird...
 
the ucsd WL is moving (don't know if anyone's interested). i know at least one person got called for an acceptance last friday. good luck to you guys 🙂

Definitely good news, especially because the optimism I had a month ago is starting to fade away. This gives me a little hope. =) Thanks for posting!

FWIW, I was speaking to an admissions counselor at UCSD and they told me that the greatest movement in the waitlist comes at or after July 15th and they have taken up to 40 students from the waistlist before. This was based on numbers in the catalog which may be a year or two old, but gives you an idea at least.

Really? That seems pretty late for the greatest movement on the list.
But either way it gives me more hope!
Thanks for posting this info. I hope they do some reviewing of files soon because my moving plans are still on hold.

There will be one spot opening up soon (not me, but an acquaintance/coworker is withdrawing this week). So bumpity bump. There is still hope.
 
did y'all who got in off the waitlist get an email first from the financial aid office...?

Not before I got in. I still haven't heard anything from financial aid, though I was able to download the forms from the status page a week after I turned in my intent to matriculate.

That's Dr. Rapaport, he's acting as Associate Dean for Admissions. He's the one who called to offer me an acceptance. If you got an e-mail from him asking to call the admissions office, it's probably for an acceptance.

I just heard a friend got in to another school and will be withdrawing from UCSD. Another spot opens up, maybe.

I just got off the phone with Dr. Rapaport (sp?). I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a relief! No more +200K debt! Yay!
 
I'm totally supposed to be working right now...but my neurons are firing too rapidly to concentrate on anything. 😀
 
Hey fellows!

I am just checking in with you guys during a brief brake in lab work.

I just finished my first year at UCSD.

I wanted to let you guys know that there is still plenty of time left. I know a couple of my classmates did not get their letter until late June/early July.

Hopefully, you will not have to wait that long but...I am sending you all good vibes!

Just the phone call. I guess I'll try to head off some of the other questions:
Interviewed in November
Placed in Acceptable Pool in December
Sent in a letter of interest in May
Put on Alternate List in mid-late June (a week or two later than everyone else)
Sent in additional LOR from my boss (sent this Monday)

For those of you waiting, be optimistic. Go out and have fun. I know it's hard to stop obsessing about med school (since it is 4 years of your life). But last night, I went to a comedy club with my friends and it was great; took my mind off this chaos. Today, I went out to lunch with my coworkers, totally forgot about med school stuff and I came back and there was the voicemail that I am never going to delete. ^_^ Good luck guys. I know you'll be great doctors.

thailand? wow. no, i sent an update back when i was first placed on the waitlist, but that was it. i get the distinct feeling that ucsd is one of those "don't call us, we'll call you" places.

Really, I don't have that feeling at all. Well, I never called them...but I did email them to make sure they got any updates (that way, I wouldn't interrupt their day and they could answer my email at their convenience). Send in another letter...it can't hurt, especially if you really do have something new to talk about.

and yup, i'm in thailand -- it's my home 🙂
 
well hey, i guess it worked for us both. yes, sending a new letter (if substantial and not a daily event) can't hurt you [much].

that's pretty crazy you're from thailand. forget out of state, you're out of country! i wonder how much harder that is...
 
well, i was actually born in the states, so i'm not really out of country... and i went to college in cali... so i guess i'm not exactly out of state. my case is complicated... 😉
when you talked to the dean on the phone, did they make you make the decision right away? or how much time did they give you? thanks again for all your help.
 
It was more of a "Are you still interested? I have a spot available." sort of thing. Of course, I'm interested! I'm so psyched! The paperwork will come this week...and I assume there will be a deadline to return the intent to matriculate form. I guess the procedure is to call you first, ask you if you're interested...and if you are, they send out forms and if you're not, they can just move to the next person on the list instead of sending out the forms and waiting for the person to respond (although I don't understand those people who are holding on to waitlists where they have no desire to attend over the school they are already at---okay, I will step off the soapbox). Speeds things up a bit since were are nearing crunch time.
 
i was given a week to make a final decision. he seemed kinda surprised that i asked for time to decide =) but very friendly about it. i think i could have asked for more time if i thought i needed it.

Where is your other acceptance? What sort of thing are you debating? $$$, location, distance from family/friends/fiancee?

For me, the cost of UCSD vs. OHSU out-of-state obliterated all other considerations.

Oh my gosh, you're my friend! hahaha Guess who?? :laugh: I hope we both get in and then we can rent an apt on the beach!
 
Wow! I can't believe it. I just got a call from Dr. Rappaport. I guess I'll be joining you guys at SD this Fall! I'm so happy! Thanks so much for all the support! Those still waiting, keep your hopes up, they still have spots open! 🙂
