Ok, lets do this again - what are the time constraints on UCSD students...word is that there is A LOT of time in the classroom (8-5 each day?) and mostly all lecture...

truth?

Is any med school actually ever in class from 8-5pm? I know for some schools you might be on campus for that long because you have lecture in the morning and maybe 1-2 classes during the afternoon 1-2 times a week, but 8-5pm straight? Sounds like a bunch of hoo-hah to me!

Gosh, I absolutely loved UCSD. I'm having trouble going to another school (one that I feel I'm a better for) just based on the location alone. Anyone else in the same pickle?

I think I attended fewer than five lectures during my second year.

Many of them were good (at least the ones I attended), but lectures aren't my style.

Much of that blocked off time (maybe half) is not lecture, but labs and miscellaneous problem sessions (not PBL, you'll get some questions in advance and answer them on your own, then meet to discuss the answers).

UCSD MS-2 here. Today my schedule is lecture 8-12. I woke up at 8 and went to go study at starbucks. Now I am going to go for a run and then I'm going to the beach to read.

Not to say there aren't "required" small group sessions (count a small amount towards your grade)

If these are all lectures then you don't have to go. I would take 40 hours a week of lecture vs. 10 hours a week of PBL. Why? Because with the former schedule I would probably only spend 2-4 hours per week (based on my current attendance rate) in class while I would be forced to spend 10 hours per week at school for the latter.
