i interviewed on 2/11 too, but didn't recieve any letter... probably didn't get in.. i am waiting for a rejection letter.. but do you guys know what are the chances of people getting a acceptance letter around mid march

applicants with offers from ucsd have until early april to inform the school of their decision. additional offers probably do happen in mid-march, but i'd say that's dipping into the wait-list/alternate list by that time.

are you saying that they have already send out all the acceptance (60) ? when do people start getting rejection letter from UCSD? Are they gonna wait until the end of march to send out rejection letter? how do you know if we are on the wait-list/alternate list? Oh my god... this is torturing me... 😱😕🙁

I received a letter just now, open, it says "I am pleased to inform you that..." I was so happy but then the letter continue with "..you have been placed on the alternate list.."..then I felt terrible...UCSD is always my first choice.

Aww that sucks. Don't feel too bad though, you never know, there is still a chance you'll be accepted once people start sending in their rejections. I'm still waiting for some sort of acceptance (wishful thinking??), rejection, or wl letter from UCSD.

no..the letter did not state how many are on the alternate list...it only said that I would be contacted once the school receive responses of offers or declines from accepted applicants, and also the letter said that the school "fully expect to need to make a number of offers from the alternate list..."

So they ve mailed acceptance letters and waiting list letters. Whats left? I havnt heard anything yet ....scary

I received the same letter yesterday. I didn't know how to react. I wasn't utterly devasted but of course I wasn't happy in the least bit either. I was more self-conscious more than anything. My mom was so excited that I got a letter from UCSD that she practically shoved me the envelope right as I came through the front door. There were guests sitting in the living room at the time and they were all looking at me like I was suppose to scream, "I got in!!" But it wasn't really an acceptance letter so awkward silence and weird pats on the back ensued.

The letter asks that you fax/mail and email them that you want to be placed on the alternate list if you're still interested, so I'll definitely do that.

for those of you wondering what it looks like:

"I am pleased to inform you that you have been placed on the alternate list for admission to the ucsd skaggs school of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. i know this is not the letter you had been hoping to receive but we had nearly 1400 applications for the 60 positions in our class. the admissions committee had a very difficult time selecting from the hundreds of qualified applicants. we have sent offers to applicants to fill the 60 positions. these applicants have until april 11 to respond to these offers. this is the date, agreed upon by ucsd and ucsf, as the date by wish all applicants, who have received offers from either or both schools, must respond. once we have heard from these applicants, we fully expect to need to make a number of offers from the alternate list. in addition, although have we asked for a firm commitment from these applicants offered admission, someone may decline an offer for any number of reasons and this can occur at any time. therefore, an offer to join the class may be made at any time between now and the start of classes in the Fall. should we have an opening in the class and we contact you, we will expect an immediate response to our offer. so please, contemplate in advance what your response will be...."

That's such a LONG time to wait...

I am having exactly the same symptoms, (hahaha..) especially "losing interest in everything except checking SDN and the mailbox." This waiting game is killing me, and I don't wanna play this game any longer. But, keep waiting is the only thing that I can do, how sad!! and 😕😕😕😕😕

I just found out that i am on the alternate list. This alternate list really sux.. why? the letter said "you may recieve an offer admission at anytime between receipt of this letter and the start of orientation on September 22, 2008." this is like 6 more month or waitng and torturing.. After reading this mail, i kinda already give up on UCSD. Darn it. UCSD is my #1 choice. Do you know how many people are on the alternate list. 😕

Since every number you see on SDN is multiplied by 7-9, I would guess 30-50 people have been put on the alternate list heh.

It is very sad how they still have not sent out rejection letters for those who interviewed. I hope to get mine soon (will be a good addition to my collection), because I can not stand this waiting.......

I am wondering where did you heard that from. Did you call the admission office?... is it a sci GPA or C GPA????

so far there is only 6 people including me on SDN is put on the alternate list. I don't know how many more people are place on the alternate list. I am guessing it shouldn't be more than 15-20 right?? come on.. they are not gonna put 50-60 people on the alternate list. this is just dumb. everyone that got accepted to UCSD is not gonna decline the offer. i am thinking only about 10-15 will choose UCSF/USC or somewhere else over UCSD. (wishful thinking... that make me feel a little better). right??

Similarly, what if you plan your housing/schoolwork/etc. around the fact that you get rejected and everything changes? well actually, I guess that would still be a good thing 😀🙂

ok.. So those of you that are on Alternate List.. What are your Stats?
Someone in previous post said that Alternate list is based on GPA. I still kinda think it is not ture.. but just lets put our stats.. just for fun.. just to see where we stand.

my stats
C GPA: 3.64
Sci GPA:3.85
PCAT: didn't take it

Honestly, if there is in fact a ranking system it would have to be based on a point system which factors in your categories of extracurricular, research/volunteer, leadership, interview, essay. I bet each section has a certain value they calculate. If it was just based on GPA, what would happen if they thought someone had less of a personality than a brick wall but had a 4.0? I don't think they will disclose our "ranking" or number on the list as that they might think that would cause more anticipation or more unneeded stress. My question is did they put EVERYONE on the list to make us feel better, or were people who interviewed in fact rejected as well?

nope it was a one sentence response only stating "we have no ranking system" 🙁
