Hi, I recieved a secondary from UCSD (I am applying MSTP) but I cannot seem to find the extra MSTP supplement....or is there no supplement? I emailed them about it, but I guess they did not understand my email because they simply replied "you are bieng considered for the MST program."

you just have to send your MSTP letters to the MSTP office. I'm pretty sure that there isn't an extra application for MSTP

lol i called their office and they were confused by my question. I'm MSTP also and I can't bleieve they are forcing us to check a box taht says "I am not interested in any dual degree programs" . To answer your q, no, there is not a separate MSTP application.

They said there is no separate MSTP application... person above me, are you sure you have to submit a separate set of letters for the MSTP? I never saw taht anywhere...

I'm going to move this to the MSTP forum. You'll find better answers there. Good luck. 🙂

Hmmm. I am definitely not sending in any extra letters of rec. Their application explicitly states that all the MSTP info they need is from the AMCAS MD/PhD questions. Also, my institution already creates an MD/PhD composite so I just had them send that one in.

aye - that's my problem. most schools ask for seperate letters but my composite is supposed to cover both md and ph.d... anyone else frustrated by the lack of transparency of this process?

on the website it says: "Please have the letters sent to:MSTP UCSD
9500 Gilman Drive, MC 0606 La Jolla CA 92093-0606" I had my MSTP letters sent there, but also sent MD letters to the med school with my secondary application.

Two years ago, there was definitely an additional form to send in. Things may have changed since then.

Last year there was also an application specific to the MSTP, which included a one-page form and one essay. It must be a new thing. Y'all are lucky.

Hi I have another question regarding UCSD 2ndary.
The essay question was an autobiography... I think I have comprehensively described that in my personal statement. Can I just copy and paste the essay? Thanks for your help.

No, you can't. If you are also applying to Vanderbilt, you can luckily just write one autobiographical essay. I would just go from early childhood to the present, with any juicy tidbits that might make you more interesting, such as tragedies and trying times and cultural diversity (lived in a foreign country, etc.). I'm not too worried about it.

Yeah, also print out a special MSTP recommendation form and fill it out. You don't have to give it to your recommenders, but I think it's some sort of waiver for each individual letter. I just filled out the form for each recommender and signed and sent those.

As for the recommendations, I sent all the same to the MSTP office and the MD office. I think that they can just ignore what doesn't pertain to them, and it can't hurt if a letter happens to be helpful.

I just finished my UCSD form. There is no special form for the MD-PhD, but as I read it you must send the forms to both the MD address and the MSTP Address. I directed my University doing the Letters of Recommendation to send them to both addresses. Yes, I agree with the comment above on question Q (or whatever) for us to check the MD-PhD if we're interested in a dual degree and UCSD will send us more info on it... Sad.

As for there not being a MSTP form, prolly a result of the new AMCAS.

NOTE: The form has a time deadline to be received by Committee on Admissions of 1 month from reception of the invitation.

Good Luck!

Nobody is going to stop you from copying your AMCAS personal statement as your UC autobiographical statement, but I would NOT recommend it.

The thing about sending forms to dual addresses seems a bit silly to me since both offices are in the same room, but it probably has to do with your file being reviewed separately by the MSTP and the SOM adcoms. I'll ask about it next time I'm in the office.

You're right, nothing to stop you from copying your AMCAS P-Statement. However, the prompt is very specific and states its not accceptable to copy the P-Statement. So that is not really answering the the prompt. I'd only do it if ya wanna waste the $60.00 and the time filing out the form and such.
