I'm confused as an incoming freshman for UCSD and am majoring in Cognitive science. I might apply to switch to biology, but I'm content with what I have right now. I'm wondering whether the schedule I'm planning to take in the fall is fine.

I'm planning to take...

BILD 1,2,3 (Biology)
Chem 6ABC and 7L
CAT 1,2,3 (GE writing sequence)

For my second quarter however, I should I take calculus? (I would need to take the math placement test)
Or can I push calculus to sophomore year?

Thank you for the advice.

** EDIT **
Sorry, I mean for the whole year xD.

You want to take all those classes in the fall?

BILD 1,2,3 (Biology)
Chem Chem 6ABC and 7L
CAT 1,2,3 (GE writing sequence)

That makes no sense if it is all in one quarter. You need BILD 1 for BILD2. Chem 6A for 6B, 6B for 6C... etc

Those need to be spread out over your entire freshman year

I am just going to assume that your schedule is for your whole freshman year (3 quarters).

And yes I think you should have no problem with pushing calculus to sophomore year.

I believe you need Chem 6A for Bild1 (I was a TA) -- but I'm not 100% sure. At least you have to take them concurrently. Also, it's fine to push calculus until sophomore year...it's a difficult series. But I think that's a great schedule for Freshman year. Good luck!

Personally, I would take it easy and take a 1 or 2 science/math classes and an easy GE. I feel that this will be an easier transition into college and college life. Perhaps, CHEM 6A, MATH 10A/20A, and GE.

Whatever you do don't take the Math 20 series..pointless and harder.
As for BILD1, you do need to take Chem6A....the only applicable part is pH calculations (which usually never happen) and perhaps functional groups NH2 and COOH. You can get this requirement waived by the professor, and I haven't heard of a case where the professor didn't waive it.

Thanks again for the information guys!
I'm guessing then I'll take another GE starting my second quarter then, and push calculus to second year. I feel like I'll be too busy to prepare for the math placement exam during the summer since I'll be going overseas.

I feel like I'll have a hard sophomore year though. Taking physics, organic chemistry, and calculus? D:

When you get around to taking Ochem, don't take Whitesell or you will spend your entire ochem career playing catchup for later classes and the MCAT.
