UCSD- when did you interview and when did you hear back?

I looked on the UCSD website and all I found was a general number to call. They seem to want email correspondence. This is the number I got: (858) 534-0830 Is it correct?

I'm going to call anyway, but if I could spare sounding like a ******, I would like to. Also, who specifically should I ask to speak with?!?

edit: I'm on pre-interview hold like half of the rest of the world 😛

Congrats doctorkevin! I liked UCSD, so hopefully I'll join you if I don't get accepted to my top choice. Better yet, I'll join you up north when you'll attend stanford and I'll attend UCSF. 😛

they got back to you pretty fast.... i interviewed early nov and still nothing.....makes me wanna call and see...anyone else interview beginning of nov or afterwards who have heard back yet?
 
yeah i'm curious why they got back to me so fast... is that a bad sign good sign.... makes me wonder
 
I got just a letter today saying I'm in the acceptable pool too..I'm wondering about the same thing. does anyone have any idea how likely it is to get accepted and also, do they rank people in the acceptable pool?
 
The acceptable pool is ranked. They won't tell you your ranking, but they will tell you whether you're in the "upper" or "lower" half.

From what I've heard, they do take a good number of people off the acceptable pool, albeit it usually doesn't happen until around May.
 
eveangel and querty, when did you both interview at ucsd? im trying to get an idea for their timeframe. thanks!
 
I interviewed 10/13 and heard back on 11/20.
 
10/6 and went crazy waiting until 12/10 to hear back...

still recovering.... 🙂
 
It took them three months to get back to me!
 
has anyone else who interviewed in early december heard anything yet? A_student, i too interviewed on 12/4 but i haven't heard anything yet.
 
anyone put on hold for an interview get an interview? what are the chances? its weird cuz i got other cali interviews, but was put on hold here. thanks.

its ucsd man. top school. all the cali schools look for something different in their students. getting interviews at others doesnt mean you will get interviews at sd. getting put on hold this late might not be the best thing but at least you can just wait it out and be glad you have other cali interviews.

i actually called UCSD today to ask about my status (i was also put on hold in Sept). they said that the committee just completed (or literally was about to complete) the final review for those placed on hold. so we will be receiving a letter letting us know what our status is very soon (prolly in the next couple weeks). from what i understood a small number will receive interviews at this point, but most people will finally be "let go." so let's all cross our fingers and hope for the best--good luck everyone!!!
 
interviewed late november, heard back today (accepted). good luck everyone!

hoping2004 (out of state and only an okay mcat, so there is hope for us out-of-staters!)
 
I have been put on hold since I completed in Sept. I was lucky get an interview invite a couple of weeks ago. I will be there tomorrow. 😉
 
anyone heard anything from ucsd lately? I interviewed in Dec and haven't heard anything...trying to wait patiently....
 
i interviewed in early november and was excited to get the big letter about 2 weeks ago (mid jan).

Hi everyone,

My interview for UCSD is in two weeks. Can someone offer me any advice? I don't know what to expect. Do they hold a group interview or one on one? I'm so worried... UCSD is one of my top choices...

hi schoolboy,

congrats on getting an interview! the interviews at UCSD are really laid-back, no hard questions (of course, this depends on who you get). it's not a group interview - two interviews one-on-one.

Has anyone in the evil acceptable pool heard anything? Or do I pretty much give up hope on hearing until May or so?

I haven't heard anything. I was told that the majority of acceptances from the acceptable pool come in May, that's when there's the largest movement.
 
As a former swimmer in acceptable pool and now a MS1 at UCSD, I'd suggest doing other things to distract yourself. And if UCSD is your first choice. do let them know. A few people will get pulled from the pool between now and May 15 but most who got out of the pool came after May 15. I got the infamous email on May 16 last year and some of my classmates got out in late June. Remember, it's an UC. Good luck,

Thought you guys might like to know that I officially withdrew my acceptance from UCSD today - I hope one of you gets off the waitlist sooner because of it.

I interviewed mid January and got a phone call two weeks ago.
 
I interviewed early January and heard a couple weeks later. I think other people also heard about acceptances at that time, so that added to the previous response might lead one to a (possibly completely wrong) guess that they send out post-interview decisions at the middlish of the month. The official word at the interview was 4-6 weeks. They seem to be pretty fast.

So I emailed Ms. Whitson and asked her about my relative position on the waiting list, and she said I was somewhere "in the middle" and that was when my stomach dropped. 🙁

But she said the list changes almost daily as people are added and taken off, but when you're in the middle I guess it would take a miracle to move up. Not a good day for me.
 
i interviewed in mid-jan and STILL haven't heard back <shrug>. wonder what is goin on. the website hasn't changed or anything!

you will hear soon... it takes up to 3 months!!! don't waste your time checking the status page, they will email you when your status changes (well, if you are accepted anyway).
 
I am supposed to head out there in a couple of weeks for an interview, they contacted me in early Feb and this was the soonest their schedule permitted. Does anyone know if their class is full and this would be a waitlist interview? If so, I'd rather save the dough and time....
 
oldlady if you are truly interested in ucsd they accept about 50% of interviewees and many of us who were accepted in the fall will withdraw soon if we get into a better choice. i would go if i were you, i was very impressed on the interview day especially since there were only two of us there!
