For a class of 60, why does it take them so long?

In regards to their e-mails, will those be sent simultaneously with the "snail mail"? And will only accepted applicants get the emails, or does that go for everyone? Thanks 🙂

WOW! We can possibly hear by next Monday? 🙂 That's way earlier than I had anticipated. I thought maybe sometime mid-March. I didn't realize that it could possibly be that soon. I probably shouldn't complain since my interview was on 2/11, so I haven't had to wait as much as everyone else who were interviewed. Anyway, thanks so much for the info! Makes me a feel a lot better now and more hopeful that I'll be able to hear from UCSD soon. 🙂 Best of luck to you!

I was reading your journal through the link you had provided and could picture the same scenario...how did you make the difficult decision of choosing UCSD over USC and UCSF?? if possible, can you tell me how you like your experience with UCSD so far, and from what you have heard from others in the other 2 programs, which school is by far a better school to attend...in terms of a great nurturing environment, where competitiveness is not prevalent and the professors are helpful. Thnx so much for your help!

I got accepted to UCSD!!! I recieved an email today offering me an admission. The email said that they are still reviewing applications, but apparently, they have already made a decision on mine. 😀 I wish everyone the best of luck!!

I am having problem, however, in choosing between USC and UCSD. I know that both schools have a great pharmacy program. I'm just concerned about UCSD's RIGOROUS curriculum. Can anyone from UCSD give me some feedback? Is it really worth it to take classes with med students be challenged to that degree? I heard that UCSD's program is highly competative. Please let me know.

Thank you!

OMG, congradulation! You must be a stellar one to be accepted before all other applicants.

I am disappointed that when I called UCSD today the phone lady lied to me that UCSD would not send out email notifications, but only letters. Apparently, she must be tired of all applicants anxious about their interview results.

Again, congratulation.

This is what I've been telling UCSD interviewees for the past month:

What you won't find at UCSD:
- tradition: we're graduating our first class this year
- a set curriculum: no classes are perfect so expect classes that may not appear to be well-organized
- an extensive network: since there's no graduates yet, there's no one to network with by school association

What you will find at UCSD:
- strong class bond (hopefully): interviews (at least for me) are a measure to decide who "fits" into our culture; the grading system (H/P/NP) tends to lead to academic cooperation; come on...60 people...it's hard to run away from so few people
- receptive administration/faculty: nothing is set in stone, so you are free to give suggestions to administration and they will listen; coursework is constantly changing so our evalutions are important
- opportunity to initiate: we only have three clubs at the moment, if that's not enough, you can go ahead and start one yourself
- brand new building: the floors are still shiny
- diverse curriculum: the classes are designed such that you can work in any field that's open to a pharm.d. (maybe even a field that pharmd's have no business in yet); the first year will have some classes to help transition you into the 2nd yr (med school yr), so at least you wont be caught flat-footed
- $18,000/yr: your debt wont hurt as much

thanks for the congrats and the feedback from everyone..I hope you guys hear from UCSD soon.

As for me...i'm gonna have a difficult time deciding...

Wow congrats! I am envious I must say. Seems as though you have been accepted to every school you applied to except UCSF as of yet. That is wonderful!!!

Haven't heard from UCSD but I am going to USC 100% regardless. I have this gut feeling that USC is a better school, at least for me, just from my experience at the interviews. The USC interview was well conducted, organized, and focused. They had greeters that really addressed the concerns of the students. The UCSD interview was just...OK. No greeters. Just students that randomly popped in and out and gathered amongst themselves and were there if we had questions. It felt kind of unorganized with all that construction and arranging. You shouln't be concerned with the cirriculum because USC should be just as rigorous, in fact, I think they prepare you for the same boards 😱 The fact that they have classes with the medical students AND the fact that I had to wait an hour for my actual interview just tells me that they are understaffed. Maybe not, but that was my impression. Obviously, if they accepted you, they have no doubt in their mind you will do well. Good luck in your decision! 😀

The purpose of the classes with the medical students is to build an understanding between medicine and pharmacy. No matter how much more faculty is available, this aspect of the curriculum will remain. Additionally, if there was a shortage of faculty within the school, ACPE would have raised issues with our student to faculty ratio.

Either way, the classes with the med students only take place during the 2nd year. As I said before, UCSD does not have a long history so there will be flaws in the system.

I got am email today too around 4:00pm. Hmm, now i can't decide USC or SD???? ANy suggestions? THANKS!

Congrats care! I got the email and I'm in the same boat as you now -- SC or SD? It's a tough choice, because both have positive and negative aspects. The curriculum isn't a huge factor for me, because wherever you go, you'll be challenged a lot...

For those who have got their email notification, does it state a date, by which you have to give UCSD a response? Just in case they might not have my correct email address and I am accepted, I don't want to lose my chance. Thanks.

i just want to thank everyone for the feedback. Let me know your final decision...and why? I think it'll be helpful to know other people's perspectives.

As for the response...I have two weeks to respond from the date printed on the orginal letter (the hard copy)...

good luck to everyone!

dude!! looks like a lot of people have already received email acceptances!!congratss!! im so happy for yall.... as well as increasingly scared for myself... i wonder if everyone, including rejections, gets emails... :scared:

Hi coffee. It says that we are just being prematurely notified, and that everyone (including those already accepted) will have mail sent around the 15th of March. From there, you'll have 2 weeks to respond to the mail. Hope that helps =)

For those who got the letter through email, when did you guys have the interview?
Thanks

I'm depressed 🙁
Waitlisted for usc+western. Rejected from uop after interview, and waiting for ucsd. From the trend, it looks like i'll be receiving rejection letter soon :scared:

..Time for plan B.

👎 hi, you said you are waitlist for usc , when did you interview? and when did you know you are on the waitlist? Did you get the letter around the same time as acceptance?
you are on the waitlist for western , it is better than me....i was put on hold :scared: thanks

Got offered admin via email to UCSD! Interviewed on 2/11. Now it's UCSF vs. UCSD hmm... !!!!!

i got an email too. =) usc vs. ucsd...and still waiting on ucsf. does anyone know when ucsf will send out their acceptance letters tor the SoCal/LA area? fyi, 2 wks from march 15th is spring break for ucla. hard decisions to come.

congrats to everyone who has received an acceptance so far. all are great schools.

just got my email today. im already pretty set on going to uop instead. so im probably going to deny ucsd for anyone who might get on the waitlist

chusifer,

just out of curiosity, can i ask why you decided to go to uop? congrats on your acceptances!

Have you formally denied UCSD yet?

i havent formally declined it yet, but im leaning towards doing so.

but my main reasoning is location. im from northern california and am dying to go back. i am currently going to ucsd and im pretty over it. i wasnt really impressed with ucsd's presentation about the school either. i feel like there's a lot of developing to do and id rather go to a school thats more stable.

all of that stuff people may say about uop's high dropout rate doesnt scare me. every school has some people who fail. all the people that ive talked to who have graduated from uop had loved it there and i dont kno why people bad mouth it so much. i like the convenience of true, oncampus housing (ucsd housing is offcampus). ucsd's class of 60 seems a bit...too small...plus id rather get out in 3 years.

but who knows, one of these days maybe ill drop by the pharm school and talk to some of the students and change my mind 😉

i got my email today, after interviewing on 2/11. i pretty much already made up my mind to go to ucsf cuz i thought i wouldn't get into ucsd (lackluster interview), but now i don't know what to do! ucsf or ucsd?? which would you choose? i love them both. 😕

ucsf would have been my first choice, but i didnt even get an interview. ucsf is a top school whereas ucsd is just getting started. if location or living cost isnt a factor for u, i would say ucsf is the better choice

depending on whether networking is important to you

goto wherever makes you happier being there 🙂

Still no email, I am ready for rejection/waitlist mail. Based on previous years' records, does UCSD send out ALL acceptance letters by email first, or is it possible that I will still receive an acceptance by mail even though I have not received an email from them?

I was wondering the same thing. Also, do you remember at the orientation they informed us that they converse with UCSF regarding who they are sending acceptance letters to and vice versa? A commonality amongst some of the individuals who have been accepted to UCSD have also received a letter from UCSF. There may be open communication between the two campuses to know early on if the person will accept the offer, to know how many alternates/waitlist individuals there will be. Just an observation...

so are you saying they already sent out the acceptance letters for ucsd and ucsf already? Anyone here applied to both schools (UCSF and UCSD) received letters for both schools already or still waiting for either one?

still waiting on both of them......sigh

Nope. All I was thinking and observing by toggling back and forth between UCSD and UCSF and seeing the reoccuring screen names stating they have been contacted by both schools. I find it ironic they are sending them early acceptances and I am just correlating that back to the speech at UCSD during the interview orientation regarding acceptance communication between both schools.
It may not be true but it is ironic how those students are getting acceptances early on before probably the waitlist is created....
I have way to much time to think about this stuff (I dont have time but somehow I find the time), haha

I was fortunate enough to receive letters from both schools already. For those that have not, good luck and keep hope alive cuz my interviews were relatively early on.

if this means anything, i got an early acceptance from ucsd and was rejected by ucsf way back in december. so i dont think there's any correlation between those accepted to both ucsd and ucsf. so if u havent heard anything yet, dont worry 👍

When will the letters be sent out through the mail? Sometime next week right? Thanks 🙂

WOW congrats to those of you who got into UCSD!!!

I am a current UCSD undergrad bio student and maybe I can offer some help with the decisions you guys are facing...like I can give you some info about the area (la jolla), etc.

I am from LA originally and know a bit about the area arount USC as well...and have many friends there for undergrad...

so I donno...maybe you ahve some questions about UCSD that I can answer...like questions you can't find online...about living here...costs...etc. La jolla is a BEAUTIFUL area...NOTHING BEATS THE OCEAN VIEW we have here ON CAMPUS!!! but ofcourse there is more important deciding factors...so good LUCK...but if you are looking for a nice area...USC IS NOT IT!!! and UCSD IS IN A BEYOND BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!!

good luck with your decisions! ask questions...btw, I live right by campus(UCSD), and know the area well...

wrong post, cannot delete it

i received acceptances from both ucsf (a week ago) and ucsd (a couple days ago).. don't stress yet, there's still lots of time! the ucsd letters were dated 3/15 but i got something through e-mail first.. gluck everyone!

This is the email I got...

"The Admissions Committee has begun the final review of applicants for admission to our Class of 2010 at the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Even though the process is not completed, they have directed me to begin to offer admission to our strongest applicants. I am pleased to be able to offer you a position in the class. Attached is a copy of the letter offering you the position. The signed copy will be placed in the mail to you on March 15 once all of the admission decisions have been made. You have two weeks from the date on the letter to respond to our offer. However, we would appreciate a response as soon as you can decide. Please follow the instructions in the letter to respond to this offer. I hope that your decision will be to join us here at UCSD this fall."

So I'm getting that the snail mail versions won't be coming out until the 15th (you can print out the letter which they send as an attachment however).

just through e-mail
