I know there's been quite a few threads on this, but I haven't seen anyone mention it in a while. I was wondering if there are still people out there whose AMCAS was received by UCSF on 8/15, but who still haven't heard back from them either way. I think we've now come to the 10 week mark, so I'll probably contact them at the beginning of next week to see what's up.

I'm with ya. I called them last week and they were like, "well, we're being crushed w/ new applications now so it may be up to 13 weeks total instead of 10."
Internal monologue: Umm, you've gotta be kidding me, regardless of what your little computer that can only say '8/15' might say, you've had my stuff since 7/8.
Actual response: Oh, that's TOTALLY fine. Thanks for the update!

I don't think anyone from the 8/15 pool has been rejected yet. UCSF sends out its rejection letters at the end of the 10 (or 13, or whenever they feel like it) week period.

r u guys waitin for a secondary or an interview?

Yeah I'm part of that 8/15 pool and still waiting for a secondary.

I was in the 8/15 pool and I just got my secondary invite yesterday. So they're still coming.

I'm starting to think they're secondary application deadline will have passed by the time I hear from them. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

sorry, didn't mean to post twice

I'm out of state. And my email said to complete the secondary and send in LORs within 4 weeks, so I'm guessing there's no official secondary deadline.

that's right, they dont have an official deadline... they give u four weeks to turn everything in... good thing u dont have any essays to write, just a page w/ biographical info (name, school, etc). good luck to all...

UCSF donkey punced me, i was 8-15 group and i found out October 15. When will this mayhem end?

in the 8/15 pool, still no word. Fingers crossed.

I have mixed feelings about sending my secondary in to UCSF..

first, I was put on hold at Albany, rejected from Case (probably for CC pre-req credits), and only have 3 interviews thus far (none at a top ranked school). I also haven't even received a secondary from UCSD and UCLA.. which makes me wonder if I'm even qualified for a CA school...

So what makes me think I would be accepted at UCSF? I realize that part of this process IS a crapshoot, but still... I really don't think I'd qualify for the JMP or MSTP programs (they only take 12 students each!) Anyways, I guess I'll throw my hat in.. 60 bucks isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.. Not expecting much though..

Anyways, just wanted to vent. Any thoughts? Anyone feel the same way?

any news from the 8/15 pool?

Firebird, definitely turn it in! I was thinking the exact same thing. i was even shocked i got the secondary. I've gotten rejected from about 6 schools now (all over the US), and didn't get a secondary from ucsd or ucla!!
And I have an interview at ucsf this thursday!! Like you said, this whole process is random, you never know! don't want to regret it for $60...

I received mine at 4:54 PST last friday, I was in the 8/15 group as well. I had given up hope, but alas, there was one more check to be written! I guess it really is just taking them a long time.

(que energizer bunny) still waiting.

I am also part of the 8/15 group who hasn't gotten anything. I live in SF, so I decided to pay a little visit to the admissions office, and maybe MUSCLE a secondary out of them. I took a deep breath, ready to yell, scream and DEMAND a secondary right then and there.
A distractingly cute girl was at the front desk there to greet me.
"Can I help you?" she said with a smile.
" I'm...uh...my....8/15 group...." I managed to stammer out.
She laughed. Her teeth were like pearls.
"You'll just have to wait a little longer. We'll get there eventually." She said.
I became droopy and told her to take as long as her heart desires.
Then I walked out.
Girls are so manipulative.

That's really funny... thank you from the thousands of us in the 8/15 group who would give our right arms to walk into the admissions office! This is the first comment I've heard that actually made me feel better about the thundering silence since 8/15. I was in the AMCAS group that was submitted in late July but not posted until 8/15 due to computer problems. I called the admissions office prepared for a fight or at least a tense conversation - the lady on the phone was apologetic while she explained the computer problem. She also wished me good luck, which I certainly didn't expect from a top-10 school admissions office.

I, too, was totally disarmed at that point...

HAHAHA....funny story! I laughed out loud. Very vivid.
I am also in the 8/15 group. Thank you for sharing this cute story in this demoralizing process.

are any 8/15 people still getting secondaries or is all hope lost? 😉

I am in the 8/15 group as well; I am also out-of-state.

So, I called the UCSF office on Tuesday, and was told that a letter is being mailed to me "sometime this week."

I haven't found any direct information anywhere, but judging by an earlier post, secondary invitations are sent by email??

So, I'm not feeling terribly hopeful... 🙄

Yes, the secondary is via email. I'm waiting for my thin envelope too.

I received my secondary last week and am out of state, so don't lose hope!

I was complete there, 11/1. Still very much in decision-making mode, if my sources conrfirm ...

Just got my rejection letter - wow, what a nice letter. On the one hand I am pretty upset that even working for years in a UCSF affiliated facility isn't enough to get me a secondary - but on the other hand, now I won't be forced to choose between the "correct" choice (UCSF) and where I really felt like I fit in (Loyola). Hmm.. now I just need Loyola to accept me.

I felt somewhat "underdogish" finishing my secondary for the UCSF programs (JMP, SMTP, Regular MD). I did what I could in the essays, but man I think these programs are so competitive...

I find it hard to believe that they'd accept someone like me.. especially when I didn't even recieve a secondary from UCLA and UCSD, and I am at hold (pre-interview) at UCI...

Looks like I'm headed out of state!!!

Flop, I'm sorry to hear about the letter. Are you at a CA address? I hate waiting for this letter...I'm on the other coast.

Thanks. Best of luck with Loyola!

Ah, finally some closure from the 8/15 UCSF AMCAS group... I got the rejection letter in the mail today. It's okay though, I was so ready for it (plus, thanks to this forum, I knew that invites were only going out via email). I'm over it... moving on now. Gotta get ready for my trip to WashU next week.

Sorry to hear about yours too, Flop... oh well, their loss. I still think you should come party with me in Hawaii, though. 😎

OOOOOH!!! A party in Hawaii... so necessary.

I live 30 miles away... how long can a rejection letter take to arrive?

REEEEEEjected.

edit: Out-of-state, 38T/3.75, MSTP applicant, in case anyone wanted to compare.

Jebus, they rejected a 38T/3.75? Who the hell are they ACCEPTING?

Did the reject notice show up on the status-check page? Also, were you rejected for MSTP, or everything?

According to my premed advisor, UCSF favors students with a lot of clinical experience/patient contact/volunteer work. So, I don't know what this person's extracurriculars were (or even if this holds true for MSTP) but it's a thought.

the MSTP can only interview you if you are granted a secondary from the med school.

My parents just informed me that my UCSF rejection letter came in the mail today, I've seen it coming for awhile though.

Well, that just about seals the deal for me. I WANT my rejection letter! NOW! No more waiting!

So I called the Admissions office about 5 mins ago (yep, right before it closed - I'm a jerk) since it's been a week since the "8 week" post-secondary deadline passed, and the woman said "To be quite honest, a TON of rejection and on hold letters went out today".

Thanks for letting me know, I guess.

So I guess we should brace ourselves on Weds/Thurs when we open our mailboxes!

Are "on hold" letters given out to people with and/or without secondaries?

Flopotomist, your avatar is awesome.

Ugh. Another week of stalking my mailman. He must think I'm completely psycho. 😀

LOL...whoops thought this thread was for interview invites. 😳

It did not show up on the status page, but my mom called and told me she received a thin little envelope from UCSF in the mail that booted my butt pre-secondary.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Another day without my rejection letter. I can't take it anymore! Reject me and let me get on with my life!
