I just found out you can apply to pharm school without even obtaining your BS. All you need is the prereqs right? Since UCSF seems to be one of the top school in the nation, what are the chances of people applying there after only 2 years?? Is it possible? If so what has to be done?? Thanks

damnit, somethings wrong with my internet! sorry about double post =[

I believe it's possible as long as you have decent GPA, experience in pharmaceutical field (volunteering at pharmacy or be a pharm tech), good leadership skill, and a lot of extracurricular activities, such as joining clubs, volunteering in other places besides pharmacy, and so on.

Hey ya, I got these statistics off of the UCSF website. These statistics are based on the Fall 2006 class.

Degree when entering UCSF:
01.63% no degree
00.81% Associate's degree
97.56% Bachelor's degree
09.76% Graduate degree

The school is REALLY competetive so I would strongly reccomend at least a Bachelor's degree. Hope that helps 🙄

if you want to have a reasonable chance of being interviewed and getting in, I would strongly recommend getting a bachelors first. Although most schools say that you only need prerequisites, they really really really want to see a BA or BS. If you are going to apply before graduating, then you should have a spectacular GPA, really good references, a strong personal statement that sets you apart from other applicants, and pharmacy experience. Good Luck!

Two of the first year pharmacy students during my interview were accepted out of a community college without a bachelor's degree....so it's definitely not impossible. 🙂

does anyone here know people that go to pharm school before obtaining BA/BS? Are they able to keep up with the courses in pharm schools? Also, if i was to apply for the PharmD/PhD program, would i have to get my BS first?

By the way, im a freshmen in college right now and i might consider pharm school after i finsih my prereq (if i can make it).

My choices are:
1) UCSF
2) UoP
3) UCSD

If i don't make any of those schools after 2 years, then i will just try again after obtaining my BS.

So far, I have met almost all the required prereq's. I'm going to finish up with taking ochem over the summer and for sophmore year, i'll be taking 3 quarters of elementary biochem classes along with 2 quarters of human/mammalian physiology. I will be working to keep my GPA around 3.6-3.8. Do you guys think that enough to make me stand out? (academic wise)

As for clubs and etc, i'll be joining a pre-pharm club next quarter. I'll also be looking into finding a job in walgreen's pharmacy and research with professor here.

What else do you guys think i'm going to need? Thankss

which school were they accepted into? what kinda of extracurricular or courses did they have?

I'm totally guessing here, but I feel like you need to have a higher GPA than 3.6 if you want to make it in without a degree. It seems like most of the students this year who got in to UCSF had relatively high GPA's (3.7-3.8) along with a degree.

And also, for the PharmD/PhD you have to apply to each school independently and be accepted to both in order to pursue that option. I'm almost positive you'll need a degree to apply to the PhD program.

ya you're definitely right, 3.6 is rather low. I was being pessimistic towards my expected gpa haha. I thoguth the PharmD/PhD is a joint program? If it isnt, doesnt that mean that i will have to get my BS and masters b4 i can apply to the PhD?
