It's hard to draw conclusions from a small sample size but it seems like many people didn't have good experiences at UCSF. I want to provide another perspective. I think my interviewers were very supportive throughout the entire process. It was pretty much 100% eye contact from beginning to end and the interview was nearly 50 mins. They even told me what kind of questions will be asked so that I can get a feel on what's in store for me. Overall, it was the best interview experience I've had so far. I was nervous, it was inevitable, but their positive attitudes really calmed my nerves. 👍

I had a teriffic experience, I'm just not happy with my performance 😛

my interviewers were very friendly when I first came into the room. As the interview progressed, sigh, they asked so many questions and became a bit more critical. the faculty member asked me so many situational questions that I couldnt answer and that made me feel more nervous. It seemed like he didnt like how I answered my questions. The more I got nervous, my accents got thicker and I lost my trend of thoughts. I thought I just moved to the U.S. a month ago or something lolz. I came out of the interview without remembering. I wish I can have a second chance to prove to them that I'm better than that. But oh well, if not this year, I'll apply next year again.

It sounds like you did pretty well. Is UCSF your number one school? 😉 I also felt like my interview was more conversational, but it's really all a matter of luck of who your interviewers are and whether you get along with them well.

You know, some people in the student interview feedback forum felt they did horrible but still ended up being accepted. As long as you have strong academics, extracurriculars, and essays, you still have a good shot at getting in. Good luck! :luck:

I should note that this was the second UCSF interview my wife attended (she was turned down last year). She told me that her first interview was a little friendlier, more eye contact and hardly any scribbling of notes. But still, it was most definitely not a "conversation". This is the woman who interviewed her last year, I believe. And her interr... er, um interviewer this year was this woman

I think I'm more nervous than my wife is... she keeps her grace under pressure while I blergh out on the sdn boards 🙂 (I don't think I have the temperament to be a pharmacist...!)

You might want to be more discrete about who you interviewed with. Joel hovers over the SDN forums and there aren't too many people who interviewed with the interviewers you listed, so they can pick you right out of the pile.

I'm speaking for myself... I don't speak for my wife, and she doesn't partake in the SDN gab sessions. I hope everyone reading this is clear on that matter 🙂

I agree with you! I think they grade you on genuien and passionate you are. They don't so much about your ability to remain calm. It seems impossible to stay calm, that's just human nature. From my experience, I enjoyed my interview really much. At first, I was really calm, but got a little tense. However, overall my interviewers were nice.
Do you guys mind sharing some of the situational questions asked during the interviews?

wow....its interesting to read different peoples interview experience....I am fortunate enough in saying that my interviewers were amazing people and were really nice and welcoming......that made me feel much more calm than I would have felt if they were not that way ( i was still a tad bit nervous as my future depended on everything i said and did for the next hour).....my interview lasted the full interview time....my faculty interviewer stopped the interview because she realized time was up for the interview.....also, i didnt get asked any situational questions....come to think of it all the questions were based on things that i wrote in my supps.....I came out of the interview with good spirits...now what this means im not sure 😕 but either way I had an amaZing experience..... one in which i feel fortunate and blessed to have been given😍......I guess we will all be finding out our destiny soon....i have been trying to NOT think about it as much and I am keeping myself busy by studying for my upcoming pharm tech exam😀.......also, i have NOT received a thank you for interviewing letter...just curious...who else hasnt received one????? .

I didn't receive one either, but I'm not sweating that. I had a positive interview experience and am keeping my fingers crossed that I am lucky enough to attend!

:biglove: Everyone needs to relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax or you'll be like :boom:

Go learn a new language! 😀

I was asked what I would do if a student on my team was not cooperating. Again, the situational questions you're asked really depends on your interviewers. They really just want to see if you can handle yourself well and think critically on the spot.

Here's some financial aid info for those wondering about UCSF FAFSA deadlines ...

Continuing Students - March 2, 2010 for both the FAFSA and online financial aid application
Entering Students - August 13, 2010 for the FAFSA, CSS PROFILE (if submitting parent information), 2009 tax return(s), and online financial aid application.

This is actually for continuing renewal applicants - meaning for us, current students. I believe the deadline for entering students is April 13th, but double check.

Oh right. I didn't start filling it out yet; I just logged in, saw the bold text, and went back to my FAFSA (silly me) ... logged in again and found this. I haven't filed as an "entering student" for quite some time lol.

Hmmm I vaguely remember that. It was a long day. 🙁

Sounds like we'll start hearing back from them next week. Good luck to everyone! Some of you may have had bad interview experiences (myself included), but keep in mind that many students who thought they had bad interviews received acceptance letters. It seems like UCSF asks more probing questions than other schools, so don't beat yourself over the head if in retrospect, you didn't say what you meant to say. The worst parts are over, and all we can do now is sit and wait. :xf:

 That might be the worst part of this whole process! Or at least I think so.... it's agonizing knowing there's nothing else you can do!

Also, I've been filling out the CSS profile - and it SUCKS. I've never had to fill it out before, and it's really complicated. :scared: The FAFSA is a cakewalk compared to this....

I am filling out CSS as well. DO we have to pay for it?

You guys need to chill out. I don't remember filling out the CSS profile stuff until later. I believe you do have to pay a fee for that profile also. You have until August 13th to complete all your necessary items.

Just wait until you get your decision letters. For all you know, you might pay for the CSS profile and get rejected, then you could've saved yourself some money. But yes, I remember the CSS profile was a pain in the arse in comparison to FAFSA.

But they said you need to fill it out sooner than later so you can get your financial aid packet sooner. In fact, at my interview, during the financial aid session, the guy said do it as SOON as you get home! Then we can get your financial aid packet ready for you by the time your letters come in. $25 in the long run is not that much money - especially compared to how much we've already invested into this process.

I got a thank you letter today, and figured it was a rejection or something. Somehow I still think getting the letter is a bit ominous. Haha.

I just got two letters from UCSF today! I was pretty sure one of them was a thank you letter, so I was sooooo nervous about the other one. I thought it was an early rejection. I sat there debating which one to open. I picked one, and it ended up being the thank you letter first. Then I sat there for 10 minutes before opening the next one. Turns out it was a letter about financial aid....

Unless they drastically changed the process, they won't have financial aid package ready for you by the time letters come in. I think what Ricetrix is saying is that financial aid office has about 500 applications to process from all schools for incoming students alone + all the currently present students and they are madly swamped in the summers with the insurmountable amount of work. It really doesn't matter when you fill it out - you will still pretty much be getting your aid with everyone else because due to the large number of applications the office will get behind regardless.

For me, they didn't even start looking at my app till the end of August - I was one of the people that turned it my paperwork super early. So chilling at this point is reasonable. 🙄

now I know not to cry if I get one of those regular letters because I cried on my thank you letter already :meanie::meanie::meanie:

omg! the same thing happened to me!!

I got a letter for financial aid, but not a thank you letter, what does this mean? 😕

I wouldn't worry that much about that. I got my financial aid letter but in a few days, I got my thank you letter. Especially if you interviewed later, it might take them longer to send out the thank you letter.

I received a thank you letter in the mail yesterday (interview 2/19). On my way to work, will update later

I got my thank you letter yesterday. interview 2/6. i think they sent out thank you letters at the same time instead of in batches according to interview dates

Okay finally off work. So tired haha

Take everything following this statement with a grain (or a cup!) of salt. This may or may not be dependable information and these are only speculations from a current UCSF student on the admissions process.

My take on it is, it's random ... don't stress if you have or have not received a thank you letter. Don't stress if you have or have not received an acceptance/denial. Let's just enjoy this time and think of all the fun we had during the interview week  There isn't enough data to put order to this madness so let us accept is as random madness and enjoy it while it lasts!

-Firstly, I'm pretty sure they send out letters in "waves", meaning they send out letters to the highest ranked individuals and wait to hear back from them before they send out another "wave". These batches also include rejections.
-Secondly, the order in which they send out the letters is random, ie. it is NOT based on your interview date. I honestly think it just depends on who is the final reviewer of your file (some faculty are busier than others) and how high you're "ranked".

So basically what I'm trying to say is if you haven't heard back yet, don't think all is lost, it just means you weren't ranked as high. And as a disclaimer, my hunches could be totally wrong...they're just a result of what I've seen/heard in the past 6 months. I guess I'll know if Joel comes to find me and tells me to shut my mouth 😛 (Hi JG!)

I know how agonizing it can be but seriously, try not to stress yourself out too much. There's absolutely nothing you can do to sway the decision now. Good luck!

The one final piece of advice that I can offer is not to expect a letter next week. I know several of you posted about how some letters were sent out as early as first week of March last year, but it seemed that it was only to a handful of people. Most people, myself included, based on me talking to my classmates were accepted 2nd or 3rd week of March. So if you don't get any letters this week - don't stress. 🙂

👍

Cheb, did you run for your VP positions yet? You've been mysteriously silent in this thread for a while 😛 Or should we take this to OT?

I'm running Tuesday and Thursday :scared: The level of my anxiety can't be compared to all of you guys expecting the letters, but still pretty high.

Too nervous! My hands were shaking at the financial aid letter which I thought would be a rejection letter because I was thinking, "How can the school make such a quick decision?" Hahaha.

Yeah me too. And I practically ravaged the letters. My heart was pounding. Lol. And I know that not everyone will get a letter this coming week, but I know I am still going to wait by the mail every day, knowing myself. Ucsf is a really good school and it is where I want to go.

thanks pvn1! ucsf! 😀 I have about 2 years of pharmacy experience.
