UCSF D-Day - 1/15/02

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you guys know if UCSF gives status updates over the phone? I know they said at the interview not to call for status checks, but I was wondering if anyone has tried anyways.

Oh, postbacchus, my sincerest apologies. I was reading quickly and must have misread. Anyway, congratulations to you, too!! Of course you can email me. :) Congrats to everyone and good luck to all.

Woohooooo!!! The mailman just handed me a nice big envelope from UCSF!!! I haven't even opened it yet, but hopefully since it's big and since the address is handwritten, it's good news! I didn't think I had a prayer at UCSF as an out-of-stater, but it looks like I got lucky :)

CONGRATS, Wahoo!

Hopefully I'll see you there in the fall. Is UCSF your top choice?

If distance from home wasn't an issue, UCSF would definitely be my first choice. Since it is an issue, I'm torn between Yale and UCSF (but UCSF has an edge up given that they've already accepted me :) ). I'm also not sure whether to go with the UCB/UCSF joint medical program, or straight UCSF. But, what a great feeling to have these decisions to be making :)

Congrats Wahoo!!!

Just curious...when was your letter postmarked?

Thanks Pillbug! My letter was postmarked January 23. So, it took 5 days to get out to Virginia.

Well I got waitlisted to UCSF. But I guess I still have a chance, they said they normally take 20-30% of the applicants from the waitlist.

hey bomback...

did you receive a letter from them today? or were you able to call in and request your app status?

and i wouldn't worry about being waitlisted. my friend who goes there said that a lot of the students there get in off the waitlist.

I got the same waitlist letter today too. It says I'm in the "High Priority" Category. We'll see what happens... It looks like I just have to be patient now.

I got the letter today. Postmarked Jan 25th.

The waitlist is not a bad thing - they accept people from the "High Priority" list in May and then create a ranked waitlist (100 slots). The people in the top half of the waitlist are told they have a pretty good shot at acceptance and that folks in the bottom half still have a fighting chance. I got in off the waitlist - it was nerve-racking (spelling?) to wait, but it all worked out well. Good luck!

Becky,
Do they tell you your rank in May?

Congratulations, Jessica and postbacchus!

Just wanted to add my acceptance too! I am still in shock and can't stop smiling! I almost resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't getting the letter this month (if at all) since I got nothing on Thursday or Friday. I flew out Friday night to NY for an interview feeling a little sad, but come Sunday night my sister's calling me about this big envelope from UCSF. I got in! I couldn't believe it, so I keep calling me sister back to ask her, "Are you sure??? Are you sure?? Re-read what they say." After about 10 times of this, she gets annoyed and hangs up on me. :D So I call my little brother and do the same thing. :D

I flew back home last night and saw the acceptance letter for myself, so now I'm convinced. I did cancel my NYU interview, though, and instead spent that day celebrating, sight-seeing and shopping. (Of course!) NY is such a great place, but I absolutely love SF!

Anyway, I'm happy for all of us who got in. For those of you who are waiting, I know it's hard to be patient but hang in there. I would love to be classmates with all of you.

Congrats isa!
BTW, the next D-day is just around the corner (2 weeks!)

Does anyone have a clue to whether or not rejections (post-interview) are also going out at this time? I have heard neither waitlist or acceptance...so i'm starting to worry...

Pillbug--when was your interview? Yes, rejections went out together with waitlists. So you probably weren't in that batch and this is good news! I am impatiently waiting for the next cycle.

Do you guys know if everyone who interviews is placed on the high priority list or do people also get rejected after an interview?

Congrats ISA!!!
Pillbug just hope for the best and maybe you'll be in the February cycle.

First of all...congrats Isa!!

And lady...
my interview was at the end of november. i saw that one person from my interview date got accepted, but i haven't heard anything yet. i was pretty much figuring i got waitlisted or worse, but still no word...so maybe my app is just taking longer to process. i guess this just means more waiting and patience...

oh and did you ever figure out why they sent you that post-bacc info?

Hi Bomback,

No, they refuse to tell you your rank - just that your are in the top or bottom half. When it was getting down to the wire, I called them and they told me I was really close - I got an acceptance call the next day (end of June). They were very accomodating and great about it. Hope that helps.

I got the post-bac packet too. I guess SF is following in the tradition of Tulane and recruiting early.... SD gave interviewees info about post bac programs (along with a schpeal (sp??) about how "this talk is in no way indicative of your interview performance") Hopefully none of us will end up needing it! Good luck in the next round... any SNDer would make a great SF classmate!

I just talked to UCSF admissions and they said that no rejections have gone out yet. She also said that there was no timeline for expecting to hear regarding admission and that it could happen at any time up until class starts. Of course, this is not at all the impression I got when I was there at the interview. Whoever I talked to was also pretty nasty on the phone...oh, well.

Good luck all,

Adam

hey Adam...
did you ask regarding admission for people who were waitlisted or just for those who had interviewed?
