This is a question for current UCSF students. I just got accepted and I had a question about housing. Since the campus housing is moved to mission bay, it is better if I find my own housing around campus? I'm from la so I'm not familiar with the area. Is there anything I should look out for while searching for an apt (like certain parts of the city)? thanks.

Go to www.maps.yahoo.com and take a look at the area. Anywhere in the Sunset along Irving, or Juda, or Kirkham in any of the avenues up to about 12 is pretty close. You should also at the housing website's listings and craigslist.

YEa, the consensus among students is Mission Bay is kind of far away but they have great facilities there like a new gym and housing should be nice. They will also have a shuttle you can ride there and back. I would use it as a back up, the housing people were also really cool to me, so if you're worried about landlords or whatever it'd be a good 2nd choice. I live so far right now, 40th and Irving, but it takes me about 20 min on the N line, which isn't that bad.

The mission bay shuttle also runs late, so that's good.

Wish I could offer more details but go with YSky's advice, btw 3rd-15th ave Judah, Kirkam, Irving, even Lawton.

good luck!

Do most students live off-campus? I'm not sure if I should apply for on-campus or look for off-campus.

I'd say most students live off campus. If you're not from the area and don't have any furniture, never lived off campus before, etc. etc. I'd go and get campus housing. It'll help ease in your transition.
