I `ve been called for an interview at UCSF on the 22nd of octber anyone in the same boat.I recieved the invitation today via e mail.
Also we can discss what to expect and how to prepare for the exam.

Count me in. But I also got an interview from UOP. These two interviews have one day overlap. What should I do? Thanks a lot.

dentistken...even I have UOP Interview .Don't worry.1ST DAY IS JUST ORIENTATION starting around 4.30,i think.So, hope we'll be fine & done with UCSF by then.

Hi ash23wariya! I received the invitation from UCSF too. But I have no idea what to expect, do you have any information about that?

i made it too!!!

but now i have to spend another 200 freakin dollars to prepone my ticket....maybe i will do that after getting the verdict from UCLA and USC....how bout u guys??and did u get the information packet too??i just recd Mary's email today confirming the invitation....

we don have much time to prepare...so lez get together and discuss it out...

and "GUYS'.....wanna share room and travel costs???lemme noe...

hi all,

congratulations to all of you, who got the invitation for the interview. You will really like the interview session. Its a wonderful school and the faculty members are really nice. No doubt about the San Francisco. Good luck to u all.

The interview session at UCSF was for 5 days last year. During the interview we had first clinical exam, then Practcal exam and at last we had personal interview.

Clincal Exam,

I havent appeared for part 2 yet, so dont know hows part 2. But the clinical exam at UCSF was all about clinical questions and few from basic sciences. I would say they covered all the subjects whatever they mentioned in the interview letter. In the invitation letter they will mention what all the subjects they are going to ask u.

Practical exam,

When they will invite you for interview, they will inform you what all excercises they are gonna to ask u during the test. You have to do crown preprations on TYPHODONT teeth [ Columbia Typhodont teeth]. They provide u enough days for Prepration. Just few days before the actual test, they let all the applicants to come and do practice at their lab and on the same mannequins, on which u have to work on the day of test.

Personal Interview

They want to know more about you besides clinical experience.

They welcomed all the applicants very nicely. Their selection process is very fair. When they call u for interview, they will inform u about everything. I mean what all the Preprations, u have to prepare for the practicals. They will tell u what all the subjects they r going to test on the day of clinical exam.

I just now called UCSF to find out if all the interview slots have been filled... I was told that we can expect to hear from them latest by 5.00 pm this Friday...if we dont get their e-mail by then, it means we have not been selected for the interview... hope this is some good news for those of you like me who is yet to hear from UCSF....

thank you for your mail. For the clinical exam is it case studies that they give. Also do we have only 1 crown pep to do for the practical exam or are there more than 1 prep. Thanks.

Congrats to all!!

I have been waiting to hear from UCSF and didn't know that the invitation letters have been sent. I called them yesterday and they told me the same as HYBDS, wait till friday.

Can one of you please tell me when did you hear from them?

I got an interview call too. Dentisthoney, thanks for helping us out. Can you please elaborate on the clinical exam? In the letter, they just listed all the subjects. How can one possible prepare all that in few days? I cannot find any information posted here on the forum on the clinical exam. Input from anyone out there will be much appreciated by us all! Thanks.

I hvnt recieved their mail yet bt I did get an email invite. anyone with a paper invite can u please le tme know the subjects they have mentioned for the theory part ?

also I spoke to mary and she said approx 70 students will come in for a first and final interview ..i.e. UCSF does not have a second round.

hmmm! actually i called her on my cell with terrible reception

I think she may have said 17 , makes sense two interviewers and an hour for each student and a total of 2 days ..sorry abt the no. mishap ..but we can certainly hope its 17 and not 70...rite?
 
hi friends,,just now called to ucsf and came to know abt my rejection,,,when asked the reason mary pham told me that this is yr the cut off score is 91 and toefl cut off is 285 and lotsa a people with gpa 4,,,and most of the people with 96 and 98 only are considered,,my score is 89 and she told me to improve by like 10 points and apply next yr again,,,,🙁

even I called ucsf today and came to know about my rejection.
Mary Pharm told me the same things she said to sweetgal
my score is 89 too
she told me to improve my national board score 🙁

Hey sweetgal and Dr mini sorry about your rejections. And I can’t believe the cut of score is 91 for ucsf. Then I wonder what would be the cut of score for the east coast schools. i guess since many ppl get above 90's these days. This makes the admissions very competetive each year😡

hey sweegal and Dr mini sorry bout the rejections .Dr Mary pham told me the same bout the ct off being 96 and stuff and thatshe had dozens of 96's and 98's. But i was invited for the interviews at both UCSF AND UOP .

I have a lower score than yours but i guess they look at the overall application .I am a reapplicant from last year i only interviewd at Upenn last year but was totally demoralized by the rejection. THis year am much more positive as they do look at alot more things apart from scores .Try to improve the u'r CV..like dental assisting,work ex ,i'm doing my masters as well they don't want to see that u r just sitting at home and studying and getting high scores.Believe me 89 is a good score just make your application look more impressive .Goodluck and hope this helps .Be persistant

They had misplaced my applications then my scores alot of things i had was so fed up but i kept calling everyday
 
Hi guys,
can someone tell me how many people are called for the interview and how many seats are available In both UCSF and UOP.
do we need to take our own instruments(hand pieces) for UCSF and UOP pratical testing and interviews.
I heard UOP does not provide with hand piece for tooth preparations. Is that true and how about UCSF.?
Someone with answers please respond

same thing here with 89 score.now I am clueless what to do with this borderline score.All the best for those who have been called for interviews.

im not sure of uop, but UCSF has 24 seats and may be arround 70 are called for interview. they clearly mentioned that we should use only the intruments provided by them, handpiece, burs..etc.

thanx for ur wishes 🙂 ......even i am 89 n a fresh applicant too ..so guys 89 is a very good score... don't be dejected it's not the score rather how u present ur score, i mean ur complete package n ur overall presentation counts.... keep trying n never lose hope...good luck to all

Called up UCSF as well... Got rejected 🙁 Was really hopeful to get invited from them but i guess my scores aren't enough. Had no idea that so many people scored 96 and 98. Great scores!

Anyways, good luck to all the interviewees...👍

The interview papers have a line on the 2nd page saying

" The Technique laboratory D 4203 will be available for your practise [ all instruments , hand pieces and typhodonts for practise are your responsibility] "

Does this mean we have to bring our own instruments for practise ????

Me too.... I called UCSF and UOP today... and was told of the rejections....🙁
I also have a part-1 score of 89, ECE GPA of 3.41, paper based TOEFL score of 640/677 and over 10 and 1/2 yrs experience.... I thought that my experience will make up for my poor part-1 score but I think I have been mistaken.... its hard to digest.....



Anyway GOOD LUCK to all those who have been invited for the interviews... May you all get selected into your dream schools....

For the practice at ucsf, you have to bring your typhodent, handpiece, burs.
 
I spoke to Ms Mary Pham this morning and she said that the second page of the invitation packet makes it clear that instruments will be provided for practise. [ though what I had quoted in my last post in this thread made it a bit unclear ]
Does anyone have info to the contrary ? [ from the university or from last year's batch ?]

no man.....i didn make it to USC.....but i am satisfied with what i have and i will do my best everywhere i have been called....and maybe by god's grace i hope to be called at other places from where i am yet to hear....
