This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow! It's strange that if Mary Pham sent out all e-mail invites by sept 15 afternoon, how come periosdm and docapril recieved invites this morning. When did e-mail become snail e-mail?......... Just kidding. All the best to all invitees!

@dentist77 you look mature from ur id, doesn't seem to behave same.. some people check their email in the morning.. so relax..

hi youth , for practicing i have typhodont and if get a mounting rod, is it possible to mount the tyophodont to the rod without the help of manniquin. my question may look silly but i dont have any idea how to mount the tyophodont while practicising at home. plz help.

Yes, it's possible and you may use mounting rod/pole for practice at home. You may buy it from ebay.com [search 'mounting pole' on ebay], BUT you'll require mounting hinge/bracket if you wish to practice at UCSF dental school during practice sessions held prior to bench exam. Mounting hinge [see the picture attachment of my previous post on the same forum] is a device that fits your typodont to Mannequin!

hi dentistree, i got the interview invitation for uop and ucsf . can u tell whether there will be manniquin or tabletop for the practicals? whether we have to prepare for the 3/4 and 7/8 crown preparation. Instruments for the ucsf practicals will be provided by the school ? sorry to trouble u with a lot of questions . thanks in advance

UCSF - bench exam on mannequin. You should be receiving the mail package soon, that will give you all instructions and information regarding bench exam. Last year, they asked to perform two full gold crowns (one max first molar, one mand first molar). Yes, they provided all required instruemnts for the bench exam last year. However, you'll need your own instruments for the practice session held prior to bench exam. hope that helps!

Didnt received any thing from UCSF means I got rejected from UCSF too.....🙁
All the best guys who are invited...Do your Best..

i also got invitation from UCSF this morning . Act my there was some problem with my id so Mary Pham called me today.🙂. anybody preparing for bench test in bay area.

Hi periosdm
Maturity or immaturity regardless, yur mail is rather impolite, frm my experience nice words for the harshest sentiments is a better way to go.You'll get a lot of chances to see that once ur in school.

gud luck to u and all others.

All of us will take the bench exam on the same day: Oct 17th (sunday).

According to the package, we will be asked to prepare for two full gold crowns: one maxillary and one mandibular. We will only be allowed to use item and equipment provided by UCSF.

Oct 19 and 20th are two days for interview. The interview should be done on the afternoon of 20th. The registration for Uni. Pacific interview starts in the afternoon. So you should have plenty of time if you are going to do interview in these two schools.

Yes, it will be on a manikin.

Yes, you can adjust the position of manikin like what you do on a patient.

You may go visit nearby Dental Warehouse/instrument store. If not possible, any hardware store might do your job. Basically, you need a triangular plate that exactly should fit into the depression of non-working side of the maxillary jaw. Also, non-working side of maxillry jaw has a big hole in the center of tringular depression, screw size of manequin head will be the same of the diameter of that big hole. So, All you need to do is:

1) buy a tringular plate; cut and shape it to fit in the tringular depression of maxillry jaw
2) make a big hole in the center of a tringular plate (which will help you fit triangular plate + typodont iinto mannequin)
3) make three small holes at three angles of the tringular plate, so that you can fit this triangular plate into triangular depression of the non-working side of maxillary jaw. Obviously, you need three small screws to do so!!

whooaaaaaa ... I'm glad I could explain it, difficult but tried my level best. Hope that helps ! GOOD LUCK, folks :luck:

hey guys,

are we suppose to create supragingival margins (0.5mm from the gingiva) for the gold crown and anterior tooth preps??

the handouts kept emphasizing how the tip of the bur should be kept 0.5mm from the ginigva.

or should we finish with the margin even to the gingiva?

thanks in advance.
