Anyone have any thoughts on why the UCSF JMP Program seems to have such low matching numbers into Surgery programs (http://sph.berkeley.edu/jmp/residency-matches). Only 8 individuals matched into surgery in 17 years!!
Is that because it's harder to do/get research while learning at UCB in the first 3 years?

Maybe it's that surgeons don't need/use public health masters degrees?

I think it says more about the interests of the students more than anything else. While I'm sure theres a good amount of basic/translational research to be done in surgery, surgical specialties dont lend themselves to this type of research the same way medical specialties.

very much to do with the interests of their students. Not sure what you mean by 'hard to do/get research' as they conducting original research as they work towards a MS and MD simultaneously.
