ucsf physics pre-requisite?

Physics, must include:
1 lab in electricity and magnetism
Effective fall 2006, must take calculus-based physics

what does this mean?
I took my physics a few years ago and it was non-calculus based. do I have to retake it so that it is calculus based for it to count towards ucsf pre-reqs or is this just for people that take their physics fall 2006 (current semester) and beyond.

also, can anyone expound on the lab in electricity and magnetism.
I had lab for both semesters of my physics class but didn't have a full semester lab on just those two topics...hmm?

Holy! I didn't even catch that part about calc based physics. I just finished a whole year worth of non-calc based physics (worse ever!). "Luckily" for me, UCSF is one of my dream schools that I probably have no chance of getting in. I figured since I'm from SF, I should just give it a shot.

the second semester physics labs covers a bunch of stuff, such as circuits, lights, optics, magnetism, etc.

But UCSF is the second school to require physics to be calc based that I know of (the other is Temple). This requiement really irks me. There's not much relevance or benefit to having applicants go through all of that garbage just to apply to pharmacy school. I can understand microbiology and possibly english or communication, but physics II?! It's akin to asking an english major to complete organic chem I for them to complete their degree.

But since so many science majors are applying to pharmacy school (because they are finding little uses for their BS or MS degrees), I guess it makes sense for the school as yet another academic filter.

I think UCSF is a dream school for most. Did you take the calc based physics? Do you think I am allright to apply or will I have to redo the physics? What is your thought on the lab?
I e-mailed UCSF admissions today but haven't heard back anything...hmm...

I too took a year of Physics (non Calculus) for science major. I freaked out when I saw that the physics that I took didn't qualify for the requirement, so I called them.They told me that from now they are only accepting calculus based Physics. Luckily, I took it last year (05-06), so it's ok. As long as you took Physics prior to the changes, then you're ok.

I agree that's it ridiculous that they require calculus based Physics. Calculus based Physics is for engineering major, not for science major. I just don't understand their logic

One other question about UCSF pre-reqs.

Do they have an expiration on their pre-requisite coursework or a recommended age of pre-requisites?

Two of the schools I'm applying to recommend all pre-reqs be done within the last six or seven years. How is UCSF on this?

yikes........what if i've completely physics 1 prior to changes but have not completely physics II? I will have to finish the continuation of physics I.....😕 😕 will they accept it?

Uuuugh, physics is awful. I cannnnnnot stand it, and this is only my first semester. 🙁 I've got to take physics II also. ICK.
