I logged onto UCSF homepage about 6 - 7 months ago to check their pre-pharm requirements. And I am so sure that I saw Physics (with Calculus base), then I thought that I was screwed since I only had the non-calculus base. I confirmed about this with assist.org, and on the website, they only had one series of Physics, which was with Calculus based. Well, I thought I had no choice, then I took the first part of Physics again but with Calculus base last semester. And today, I logged onto UCSF website again, they have changed everything around. The "Physics (with Calculus base)" is not there anymore. Then I even logged onto assist.org again and wanted to confirm about this. And I found that, according to assist.org, UCSF now accepts both series. So, now, should I just follow the newest version? I am so confused.
😕😕😕😕😕

call the school and ask them. I also took non-calculus based so it would be awsome if they don't require it. BTW you go to UCDAVis? are you going for a BA in Biology?

I graduated from Davis with BS in Biochem.
You go to Davis too?? If you took Phys 7 series, I think you are okay. According to assist.org, Phys 7 series has always been there.
BTW, I am making up those courses at city college.
I guess I really need to ask the school.
Thanks though...

yay go aggies! i hated the 7 series... 🙁

I am planning to take the non-calculus based Physic series next quarter. According to PharmCAS, UCSF states for the prereqs that "Physics with Laboratory in Electricity and Magnetism (Calculus based physics is strongly recommended)." This sounds pretty vague though, so I'd also like to know what you'd find out Pharm Buddy.

Same here!!!!!! That's why I took only 7A and gave up.... I hated those FNTs so much. I just felt like I wasted all my time on doing something non-sense.

azpixie, what is your major?

What did you get this from? UCSF website? On there, I only saw something like "Physics, must include: 1 lab in electricity and magnetism" (update Feb 2007). This is actually different from what was updated on Sept 2006. For the 2006 version, it stated like "Physics, must include: 1 lab in electricity and magnetism, Effective fall 2006, must take calculus-based physics."

Yeah, I will send them an e-mail tomorrow.

Good Luck!

I have got a reply from UCSF regarding this issue:

"We recently changed our physics requirements to include non-calculus-based physics. The same topics still need to be covered including a laboratory in electricity and magnetism, but trig/algebra-based courses will work."

cheers!!!! thanks for sharing that info with the rest of us. 🙂

That's awesome. I wont need to waitlist for the 7 series then. 🙂. Thanks for the info.

I suppose that means the range of people that can apply have been broadened, but do you think if you took calc-based physics, it'd be considered more competitive, ie. a B in calc-based physics is more highly regarded than an A in algebra-based physics? Or at least took into consideration?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I know that on PharmCAS website, UCSF page, it says that calculus-based physics is strongly recommended. So, I think they like the more difficult series more. (Just my opinion)

I took the noncalculus based physics... but that was at State University.

Did you go to the assist.org website? it gives you a pull down menu of what you should be looking for- click on UCSF SChool of pharmacy, then the school you are transferring courses from, and it will give you a list of courses that are accepted.

g'luck!:luck:

Yeah, I have checked that out from assist.org... It shows that both series are fine...

ha..sorry, i should have read your OP more closely... but YES, go by the most up to date assist.org info. As far as I remember, they always offered the calc based or NON-calc based as options for the physics portion of the prereq.

good luck once again!
