UCSF FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

The UCSF Psoriasis and Skin Treatment Center has one opening for a full-time, clinical research fellow effective immediately. It is designed for physicians who have at least completed an internship year and who are thus eligible to be licensed to practice medicine in California. Under the mentorship of Dr. John Koo, Dr. Wilson Liao, and Dr. Tina Bhutani, the fellow will gain a thorough understanding of the design and conduct of clinical trials in addition to learning the art of using various therapeutic modalities in the treatment of psoriasis and other chronic dermatologic conditions.

The responsibilities of the fellow include the following:

· Oversight and execution of both sponsored and investigator initiated clinical trials and translational projects. Current projects are focused on new therapeutics and learning more about the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

· Participation in outpatient care including gaining deep experience in the care of patients with recalcitrant psoriasis and eczema, supporting phototherapy staff, and supervision of patients in the Goeckerman Day Treatment Program, the only such program still remaining on the West Coast. The fellow will also have the unique opportunity to work in our psycho-dermatology clinic with Dr. John Koo, the only physician in the country boarded in both dermatology and psychiatry.

· Contribution to scholarly project(s) in clinical dermatology and the co-authoring of manuscripts.

Salary is commensurate with the fellow's PGY level (up to PGY 3)* and benefits are identical to that of the residents. Acceptance into this fellowship has no direct bearing on the chance of being accepted to the UCSF Dermatology residency program. However, the clinical research and the specialized clinical experience gained during the fellowship are likely to greatly enhance one's credentials and previous fellows have been successful in the dermatology match. Even for those who have already been accepted into a residency program, this is a unique opportunity to gain expertise in clinical research and phototherapy, both of which are likely to be of enormous benefit in the clinical practice of dermatology.

Please direct all inquiries and CV’s to Dr. Tina Bhutani at [email protected].

* Based on formal internship/residency years completed. Not including research fellowship, other fellowships, etc.
