Anyone else have more entries than the app. permits to list your prereq. courses? Ex- The Ochem w/ lab section only has 3 lines. I have 3 quarters of lecture to list, but then no room for the lab (was a seperate class w/ diff. numbers and grades). Instructions prohibit reformatting app.
I was thinking I'd list out all the stuff I can't fit, under the essay section ques.#7 for additional info.
Any other ideas?

I just got my email today. I didn't fill out the coursework section but either I might combine all three sections into one line (if possible) or put it in the last section like you mentioned.

I got one today too. Does everyone get the supplemental app?

No idea.

I just realized that my lecture and lab were listed as chem 221a and 221b, etc. I think I might try putting like A/B or something in the same line. If not, I think the included labs are implied.

i havent received an email yet, when was ur application mailed out? mine was mailed july 2nd

what are you guys putting for general biology? your lower division bio classes? or upper division?

im not sure what im doing about the labs mentioned above. im sure it doesn't matter that much. they have all of our transcripts anyway.

got my e-mail too didn't look at the app yet. but for the record I hate these things.

I don't think so. When you go to the website it says:

If you did not receive an e-mail invitation to submit a Secondary Application and have arrived at this page on your own, please do not go any further. The UCSF School of Dentistry will accept Secondary Applications only from applicants who have been invited to submit one.

I put my lower division bio courses. I think that is what they are interested in.

Here's a question for U people filling out the secondary. Is your font unusually small for the Personal information section and Residency section? It starts off ok at first but then get really really small. The instructions say not to mess with the font but its kinda ridiculous. Or maybe its just my computer doing it😕

It is incredibly small in a few sections. Since we have to print it out and mail it, I'll wait to see what it looks like then. If it looks too hard to read, I think I'll call.

I have a friend that just got his email to fill out his UCSF secondary and he got a 17 on the DAT + ave. GPA/sGPA so yeah, I would imagine everybodies "eligible". What to they have to lose, they'll get 60-80$ out of it?

on the website it says:

"As applications are forwarded to the school by AADSAS, they are screened to determine if the minimum eligibility requirements have been met. The minimum eligibility requirements are:

a) Overall and science GPAs of at least 2.70 (California residents) or 3.0 (all others).

b) Minimum DAT scores of 17 in the PAT, Total Science, and Academic Average.

Eligible applicants will be notified via e-mail and will be directed to a website where they can download and complete the UCSF School of Dentistry Secondary Application. The completed Secondary Application must be received at UCSF no later than four weeks from the date the applicant is notified of eligibility.

Upon receipt of the Secondary Application and a nonrefundable $60 application fee for US citizens and permanent residents, and an $80 application fee for international students (including Canadian citizens), you are considered an official UCSF dental school applicant, and your application will then enter our review process to determine if you will be invited for an interview."So I guess everyone gets it eventually.

So I'll correct myself by saying that "just about" everybody is eligible 🙄.

Yea i got the supplemental earlier this week too. I ended up filling out all the easy stuff (not the questions) and clicked on the "save as copy" button. (the only save button i saw) Problem is, when i tried to open up that saved file, there was nothing there. Have any of you had that same problem, and if not, how did you save it? i guess my other option would be to print it out and then write it, but i dont want to do that.

the only way you can save your answers is if you have the full copy of adobe acrobat, not just the reader. The file states that you cannot save your answers in acrobat reader.

So what is everyone doing about this? Would it be possible to include the lab like this:

Chem 100a/101a, then for grade: B+/A.

I just made those up, but you guys know what I mean.

Right now I'm leaning towards just filling out the boxes they have, with disregard to extra classes. So if I took 4 bio classes, I would only mention 3 of them. (most likely the 3 i did the best in) I'm guessing if they gave you a certain amount of room thats probably all they want. Plus they have your transcript if they want to see the others.

P.S. thanks for the tip on acrobat, I downloaded it, and everything is working fine now

hey guys,

i dont know if this is a problem, but I dont satisfy one pre-req course on Form A: biochemistry. I only have 1.5 quarter hours/ one semester of biochemistry and UCSF requires 4 quarter units??? They only have one space for it too which i'm confused on because in my school biochemistry is 3 quarter units. should i not bother to send in the supplemental and application fee if i'm going to get rejected coz of this?

oh. and in the general biology section. are you guys putting down any three for those who are bio majors? or do you gotta put down the most basic ones?

thanks guys.....

This link is helpful for determining which classes they're looking for to meet the reqs. www.assist.org
It doesn't have a ton of CA schools w/ agreements w/ UCSF, but at least you can get an idea what course titles they want in the bio req area.

Futuredent- I'd call b/f giving up now. Maybe you can use your biochem and another closely related class for that req.

Have you guys resolved the font issue yet? I just printed out the D form and some lines are so small, they're gonna need a magnifying glass to read it. Anyone dare to change the font size? Has anyone called them regarding this?

Some lines are really small... but I would just keep the font size...cuz " any attempt to change the font or type size could result in your application being cancelled".

yes. better to be safe than sorry. They are dentists anyway so they should have great visual acuity. haha. Hey I was wondering if it was just me but in the 3rd box where it asks for parents' marital status is the font super huge compared to the others?

Yeah, I have the same problem as well. The font gets huge...

Yep, same here. Mine looks like this: Remarried

Pretty insane, I'm going to call them on Monday b/f I mail this just so they're aware of how ridiculous this app looks.
Plus, was it just me or did you guys feel a little foolish entering your employment status for ages 1-5 yrs and 6-11 yrs? What century are we living in? Did anyone possibly spend their childhood in the textile factory? Maybe a chimney sweep??

here's a question i've been meaning to ask...under English Lit and Composition, it says it requires 3 quarters. I have 2 quarters, but i've heard that AP lit and comp credit from high school also counts, since atleast at my undergrad it covers one of the 3 english classes we need to graduate.

has anyone had this problem and if so what are you planning on filling in that line?

Their website says you need 8 quarter units, so if you have that I wouldn't worry about how many actual quarters of attendance you had.

I have had one semester of English composition and one semester of Critical thinking and argument. Do you guys think that would meet their requirement?

Thanks....

Can you please post their reply on sdn so that everyone knows what to do with the font size problem? Thanks a bunch...

Same here.. I guess UCSF cares much about parents' marital status for ages 12 - 17 years..😕

Some fields did that to mine too but I just added spaces accordingly because as you add spaces, the font gets smaller

Just called UCSF, the guy there said they're aware of the font size problem, he apologized for the issue and said to just leave it the way it is.

thanks pal👍👍

super newb question here:

if i took Chem 101 and it had a lab component (1 semester's worth) how many quarter units is that? is it just 1.5 or does the lab add to the units?

how many of u guys have sent ur ucsf secondary?

how many of u guys have sent ur ucsf secondary?
Sent last Tuesday. Thought about keeping it longer to maybe adjust my essays, but I knew I'd never be 100% happy w/ them. The one that gave me the most trouble was explaining the hardships you've had to overcome.

is this what everybody else did for that parents' relationship 12-17 slot?

also, does the first essay question mean to only choose and talk about one experience and not all dental experiences?
I left that slot as is. When I altered it w/ all the spaces, it left this weird box in the corner of the slot. The UCSF guy told me to leave it as it is.
For the 1st essay, I didn't get the impression it was to be restricted to 1 dental experience.

mailing mine tomorrow morning. hopefully two stamps is enough for the one with forms abcd

anyone else on the first essay? this seems pretty important regarding whether or not the prompt asks to talk about one experience or multiple experiences.

seems like you are supposed to write about all your experiences overall to me. thats what I did

i havent either. and i sent mine about the same time you did :-(

i just got mine last week actually. did you e-submit your application july 2nd or did AADSAS send out your printout july 2nd?

sent mine last week Tuesday, I believe.

i have this problem too.

I think I'm going to have to call them about the 2 semesters of English Compostion/Writing.

I went to a University that didn't have these requisites because they only accepted students with "strong writing skills" and didn't offer these classes....so I wonder if my "Poetry" and "Comparative Literature" classes would suffice as English Compostition/Writing. I got a liberal arts bachelors, all writing-intensive classes.

I'll be mailing mine out next week...I only got the email on Monday, but I took the DAT pretty late, so I think they just received my scores.

okay guys. i dont know if this will help anybody but hopefully it will.

I sent in my UCSF supplemental about two days ago. let me talk about some of the things I did that confused me a little.

1. about the font. i talked to the admission people and they said that just leave as is. they were aware of the problem and just try opening it up again later to see if it's fixed? I didn't have major issues with this one except on form D (the basic form) where you put down your college info..some of my typed responses duplicated with itself so it looks like a big blurr..but i still left as is. (if you really want..and this is what i did...i just put a little post it re-writing the info just incase they can't read it )

2. i had issues about how to score about the credit UNITS because my university (chicago) does it by semester. So. on the instructions, it said that 1.5 quater units = 1 semester. So that's what i did. but then i came short on quarter units for biochemistry. talked to admission director who went to my school's website to make sure and told me to do this. If biochemistry is one semester and it's worth 4.00 credits. THEN. multiply 1.5 by 4. The director was aware of the confusion and so they said that it's not a big deal and they do check with each school's grading policies but...tha'ts what i was told. If you have this problem. CALL and CHECK TO MAKE SURE with your school because every school is different! They were nice about it too so.. just call them and ask that you dont satisfy the prereq quarter units and ask them how to do the conversion.

omg. i wrote more than i planned. hope it helped someone out there. g'luck guys....
