Congratulations to everyone who has heard good news from the Dental Schools. I have been very lucky and received offers from UCSF and UOP. Is anyone else in this situation? I am trying to decide which one to choose which is very difficult. Does anyone have opinions or views as to which school is best? My opinion is that neither is better than the other but they are certainly different. The important thing is to find the correct match! I would really appreciate your feedback - in particular people that are attending either school now or have in the past. Thank you and good luck to all those people waiting to hear.

I think UOP will train you to be a v.good private practitioner and UCSF is more research oriented and has better opportunities for specialty programs...although it doesn't mean that you won't be good clinically...UOP is more expensive in terms of tuition and you will have to buy their laptop and instrument kit....UCSF being a public school receives more funding....I would suggest if you have time try to visit both schools and have a word with students at each school and ask for their opinions

The research at UCSF has nothing to do with you, if you want to be able to practice in States. So according to my experience, UOP is your best choice.

Points to consider
1. UCSF is a great school if doing research and specializing is your priority.
It is less expensive. It recieves a lot of research funds and state funds since it is a state school.

2.Pacific prepares you to be a general dentist. And it is one of the most expensive schools around.

Both are great schools and it depends on what you want.

UCSF: plus point is buchenon clinic. there no such clinic for any international dentist program. you have lot of patients. and you will get Dental assistant also during clinics. Low fees compare to uop. well established name. Good faculties.

Uop: Very good dental program. fees are high. but you like the environment of UOP. Good facilities.

My answer is if you want to spend more money go to uop. if you want to go for specialities in future, go to ucsf.

Thank you all for your thoughts and opinions on choosing UCSF or UOP. Still working it out and will let you all know......

UOP is more expensive in terms of tuition and you will have to buy their laptop and instrument kit....

There are plans at Pacific that starting next year they will rent all instruments to you, so you won't have to buy the instrument kit from them.

Keep in mind that while UOP is more expensive, you get done 1 year earlier. If you are a gp and earn, let's say, $150,000 a year, that is one extra year in the long run you will have. Just something to consider!

I think USCF is a two year program also, so that doesn't make any difference.
Another thing to think about -- what are your goals? Do you just want to graduate and practice dentistry and make a living for your family? Or do you want to go to the reseach or specialty? Or do you just want to be able to tell that you graduated from the school with a well known name?
Sorry if that sounded harsh, but after being in school for a while now I noticed that a lot of people join the school for all wrong reasons.

you are talking about 4 year regular dental program. here we are discussing 2 year international dentist program. You have misunderstood something.
