anyone have any opinions (informed or otherwise) on the UCSF path program?
a few thoughts:
- incredibly expensive city and the pay isn't really any better than any other program. In fact, Stanford, just a short way to the south, pays about 8,000 to 9,000 more a year. However, the city is incredibly beautiful and is alot of fun. And the view from the residents view--WOW! Too bad that I'd have to live in a one bed room dump for $1500/month. Is UCSF really worth it?
- just a few years ago the program was primarily oriented towards turning out community pathologists. With Abul Abbas taking over three years ago, this is changing--alot. In fact, it seems that there is an expectation that all residents participate in some sort of research project. My concern is that there is going to be alot of turmoil in the faculty with this change over.
- Abbas seems like he is is of the Brigham school of thought that people should pick either AP or CP if they think they are research bound. I really want to do combined AP/CP, and even though I think I will end up in academic path, I don't want to people telling me that I need to drop one or the other.
anyhow, anyone got anything to say?
