hey guys, so I got that letter saying state whether I intend to repeat the DAT in an attempt to achieve minimally acceptable or competitive scores in each category.

I need your inputs because I am not sure if it is worth it to retake the exam. I took my DAT for the second time, and improved in every section except the RC. 👎 (check predents) But my first test score didn't have anything lower than 18 so that does meet the min. requirement.

I am hesitating to say yes because I do not want to retake that exam and I think my scores are fairly competitive with the rest of the application. Also, I don't want to be put on hold for the next 2 months just because I said yes to the retake offer.

I am not sure which is a better option for me at this point, whether to just tell them that I will not retake the DAT or tell them I will retake it. Any inputs will be helpful and if anyone went through the same thing last year, please share.

Thank you

Case wanted me to retake the DAT, I cannot please every school. I have five interviews now so I'm not worrying.

yea, I did a search and it seems like this letter it sent to everyone who has a score below 17. Most people said they replied yes to the letter but ended up getting accepted without the retake. So I am hoping for the best, Mercy is 2 minutes from my place so I really want to interview there.

I would also like to interview at UDM. I live in Michigan and although I did interview at UofM (what are my chance of getting in there!?) I would like to interview at both of my in state schools. I have a 16 in QR, all other scores are 19+. I have strong math grades from undergrad courses. I also am unsure of how to answer this question to UDM. I want the interview, but I also don't want to retake. What to do.....

according to the posts from last year, it seems like this is just a possibility. By saying yes doesn't necessarily mean that they will make you retake it but it means if they do ask you have to retake, or else you will not be considered for admission. Well at least you interviewed already at UofM, that's pretty sweet considering many in-state applicants been already rejected from U of M.

How do you think you'll reply?

I said yes to the question. If they require me to take it again I am willing to retake it.

That makes sense. I was going to say that I plan to retake it, but not commit to a specific time frame. In reality if I really do end up retaking I couldn't possibly be prepared until after this semester at the earliest, but more than likely it would be in the summer after I graduate anyway.

Your stat is very sweet, i am sure that you must got accept to at least one school. Now the thing is you never know what kind of test you gonna get the second time, so you have to willing risk other nice score just for RC, in my opinion, it is pretty risky. But if you are really confident with other sections then just retake it since you already know what to study.
Gluck

I attend UDM and had that same letter. I said no. But you should probably say yes. Have you been to the school yet, have you talked to Karin LaRose-Neil? As I understand it, she is the gatekeeper of admissions, basically in charge of who gets in and who does not. She knows every students name without you ever talking to her. It will help you to go to the school and just talk with her about your application.

Hey kappa, then do u recommend to have a meeting with her during the application process? Do I have to make an appointment?

I am kinda desperate right now. Thank you.

there's no appointments with Ms. Rose Neil because everyone wants to see her.

Unfortunately, unless you know her personally she will not be available to discuss the application status.

I would just pop in, she is an amazing person. Persistence pays. Remember that.

I got that letter and I'm going to say no. I don't want to study for that test again...

I am a DS2 at UDM, and I got that letter. I said I would "consider it". I got an interview. December 1st 2006 I was accepted conditionally on retaking it before April 1st. I retook it, got good scores in everything except QR, and here I am. Do what they say if you really want to be a dental student. They want to give you a spot, so jump through your hoops like we all did, and we will see you in the fall.

that sounds like what I expected. It's good that they give you enough time to retake the exam. Thanks for you information!

I'm worried that if I retake my scores will go down. I have scores that are 19+ except a 16 in QR. Do you know what happens if I say I will retake, they interview/accept me & I retake lower? Can they revoke the acceptance based on the retake?

I got the retake letter too, they want me to retake because of a crappy carving score (Canadian DAT). The next test date for the Canadian one is in April, so i'm probably just going to say no. Too bad because I really wanted to see the new school, but I'm not going to risk my scores for one school, 7 others thought they were fine so I'll stick with them.

Did they specify it was your carving score that needed to be improved? What was your score if you dont mind me asking? I got an 11 and still havent received the letter...

Yea they specified carving, and I got a 15 which I really don't care about since carving soap is not a regular hobby of mine, lol.

I have not got the retake letter till now. When did you all submit your AADSAS application?

In one of the letters they send UDM explains why it is sending out stuff 'so late in the game' -- because they wait until their new class is settled in before starting next year's admissions. I think that is a pretty good reason for them to be starting the process later than most other schools.

Have they invited anyone for interviews yet this year? Anyone know when they'll start? I think they're the only school on PreDents that doesn't have anyone listed as having an interview.

if we haven't gotten that letter saying to retake and we do have a score lower than 17, would that be a bad sign and we could assume they aren't interested in you?

I think they will send you a retake letter if you have low DAT scores. Last year, I had 16 AA and they recommended me for retake before ADCOMs reviewed my application.
