Anybody in UF ever got a grant, or other non-repayable tuition help?
Do you care to share your experience? Any advise?
Thanx, Now that I was accepted, the $$ reality hits.

Since this is considered a post-graduate degree I don't believe anyone is eligible for grants. The only thing that might help is if you don't have a degree. My friends who only had AA's and still showed financial need didn't get grants though. The good thing about UF is that everyone (after the 1st year) is eligible for Federal loans in the exact amount that UF calculates (tuition + living expenses). This past year it was around $21K/year. I was able to get the max subsidized ($8500/year) so I don't pay interest on those loans. I do get stuck having to pay interest on my non-subsidized loans though. The only thing I've heard is that if you have an AA/non-Bachelor's degree then you get screwed your first year because you're considered undergrad for financial aid purposes. This means you aren't eligible for the same amount of Federal loans that post-bac's are. The financial aid office works with these students though so you'll be able to get private loans. Good luck and they'll explain everything to you at orientation!

If you've got a bachelor's or at least 90 credits of undergrad you're ineligible to receive grants of any kind in pharmacy school.

Thank you guys.
I guess the majority of Pharm students have to take loans of some form or shape.

Yeah, I don't know know anyone who doesn't have loans, even the students whose significant others are working. It's not too bad though. I was lucky and had a free ride in undergrad. I figured 80K isn't that bad considering I will have had 8 years of college education! Good luck!

I'm trying to figure out how to do loans for UF as well... I've never applied for loans before, so I don't really know what I'm doing. I've read through UF's website as far as loans go, how long do we have to wait before that link appears on the UF-COP website so that we can apply? I've already filled out FAFSA, do I only go through the school to get a loan, or do I go somewhere else? Also, do you think it would be a good idea to contact the financial aid department in Gainesville, even though I'm going to the Jacksonville campus? Any help at all leading me in the right direction would be good... I'm so lost!

BTW... I'm graduating with my BS in April, so I won't be an undergrad my 1st year.

If you put UF as one of the schools to send your FAFSA to, the school will present you with a financial aid offer.

I can't remember exactly when I received the paperwork but I think it was before orientation. They do, however, explain EVERYTHING at orientation regarding the Fin Aid. You will be dealing with the FinAid office in Gainesville even if you're at a distance site. Also, you will probably get tons of private offers but I would highly suggest NOT getting them. You are lucky in that UF's costs do not exceed the max that you're allowed to take out of Federal loans. The private loans usually have higher percentages. Just sit tight and you'll receive the info and like Bananaface said, if you put UF on your FAFSA then you'll receive info from UF. Good luck!

If you filled out your FAFSA and put UF in your choice, you should receive a notice from UF's financial aid office in april.
You can call them to see if they have you on file.

Yah, I know some people who are going to graduate with no loans. Lucky is what they are....free rides from parents. Only to be so fortunate!!!!
