UF vs. USF undergrad?!?!

Hey, i'm just looking for input on my current situation. I am a sophomore here at the University of South Florida and applied to transfer to the University of Florida. I recently got accepted but am not too sure if i want to go anymore, mainly because i don't think it will help me "that" much in terms of getting into "any" allo med school. Right now i'm sitting on a 3.97 Overall and a 4.00 BCPM and if i stay here at USF then next year i'm going to be taking honors classes. Do you think that will make up for the fact that USF isn't considered as good of a school as UF when i apply to med schools??? I really am stuck on what to do and i don't want any regrets...any input is greatly appreciated.

Nah, I dont think it matters much. As long as u have a high math/sci gpa, and a good MCAT score, that's all that really matters.... where u went for undergrad is not that important.

yea getting into med school is not the reason to transfer to UF (I'm currenntly a USF student w/ stats similar to yours)...go there if you want more of a college experience...I dont know where I'm in yet besides USF but I've interviewed at top 10 med schools...

sweet, thanks for the advice...i'm probably going to end up staying here at USF since it's the easier thing to do....plus like you guys have been saying, it shouldn't really matter either way.

UF is superiorly better than USF. I would transfer because it's known as the best college in the southeast.

Kids with 1000 SATs can get into USF. Go to UF.

hmm...i wonder if you go to UF? Anyways, i think as long as i prove my worth on the MCAT, my GPA here will hold face. Btw, kids with 1000 SATs can get into medical school just as easy as anyone else, as long as they prove themselves in college, no matter where they go believe it or not. The name of the college doesn't mean a thing if u slack off or don't work to the best of your ability.

I agree with the previous posters that going to UF versus USF for undergrad won't make a difference for applying to medical school. Take your honors courses next year, make good grades and rock the MCAT, and stay involved in your activities (shadowing, volunteering, etc.), and academically at least you'll be fine.

stay at usf!! why change now?? usf is great anyway. 😍 one of my good friends had similar stats to yours. graduated as the top senior for his class or some big honor like that. anyway, he interviewed at the top 10 schools and got accepted pretty much at all of 'em. now he is a 3rd year at harvard. so im pretty sure with your stats, should be no problem getting to where you wanna go. btw, good job..im jealous!! 😀

thx, yea USF isn't too bad, i was raised to hate the gators anyways, lol (parent is FSU alumni). Don't be too jealous though, cuz after next year with my crazy schedule my GPA won't be as good....plus i've been fairly lazy w/ the extracurriculars. thx for ur input.

After getting into medical school, I can tell you that where you went to college doesn't matter that much - just what you did while you were there.

Going to a college like UF can afford different opportunities (for instance, they have top-notch research facilities) but that doesn't mean you can't do research at USF. And as any typical pre-med, wherever you are, try to volunteer, be in clubs, etc. - that doesn't depend on which school you're at, just depends on your motivation.

Your GPA right now is very competitive. Just continue working hard and do well on MCAT and you should be fine at whatever school you apply to. GOOD LUCK!
