Okay, I have the path shelf coming up in a week and a half and Step I soon after. I CANNOT read through goljan (I used it throughout the year to glance at with Robbins and his blank). The list format is driving me crazy. I have two thoughts:

A) blank, read all the charts and figures, and high yield blue margin notes+Questions as much as possible

B) Force my way through the Book probably diminishing the number of questions then no time for audio

This is before the path shelf. Then after the shelf, should I force myself through his book before Step I?

I have no idea how the guy can have some an awesome lecture series and have such a painful book to read cover to cover.

i agree. BRS + audio is very doable and will give you a focused, high-yield review in 1.5 weeks.

You can skim Goljan for areas that you are weak in or that BRS doesn't explain well.

Thanks everyone. Really good advice. I had BRS kind of sitting on my shelf. I will pull it out.

Don't feel compelled to use Goljan if you don't like it. You will only be wasting time dragging grass through that book when you could probably get twice the work done by other means. I suggest:
read sections of BRS pathology
listen to corresponding Goljan audio +/- slides
do questions

BRS path is in sentence format so you will get through it easily. Also, pay attention to the bold words & the "key associations".
Audio - just listen attentively and look at slides if you can. Or maybe you can close your eyes and imagine you're there and laugh out loud at his jokes. I don't know but they say it's sort of like a spiritual journey.
Questions - don't skip em.

The hardest part is letting go. You don't have to use RR Goljan! There are others like us out there who find the format incredibly annoying, we're not alone.

I did very well on the Path shelf doing only goljan audio and all of Kaplan Qbank Path questions. There were at least 5-8 questions on the test that were described by Goljan word for word. I was completely shocked that lectures that old could still apply to tests today.

People in my class who got the highest scores consistently used goljan audio.

LOL, that's a misuse of statistics if I ever heard one. I suspect there are folks who consistently used this audio and did poorly but didn't come clean, and probably more than a few people who got the highest scores who also did other things that probably played a big role.

In my experience you can do great or poorly with ANY of the board review materials -- most of them have all the material you would need to do well, it's just a function of finding the right resource for you, and how much you pack into your brain and how much study/practice time you put in. If anything most people can read significantly faster than they can listen to and absorb an audio recording, so you cut your learning time down substantially the more time you spend on audio resources. IMHO this only makes sense if you have down time in a car or at the gym where reading is impractical/dangerous.

(Not to mention that the Goljan audio is copyrighted material and you are foolish to admit having it, on the internet).

You aren't the first one to suggest this.

Good comics, ruined by a mediocre Stallone movie. Could have been an Iron Man-like franchise with the right personnel involved.

HA!

I prefer to call you, Brain, cuz I think you're outlier smart.
