Uh 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A couple of days ago, they had a "background check" link under "required items" on the UHCOP orientation website. It's no longer there. They took it down for some reason. Anyways, under that link, which gives you the instructions on how to get your criminal background check, they also mentioned something about the drug test. They said we need to show our "badge" to the drug testing company in order to get tested. It was a little unclear to me where we're supposed to obtain the said "badge" hence my question.

The drug test might be due right before the orientation but I'm not sure since I didn't really write down the details. Perhaps, things will clear up once the put up the link again.

The patch for your white coat is different from the badge that I'm talking about.

What is this "to do list" on peoplesoft? is there going to be another letter along with the acceptance letter that will provide this information or am i suppose to already know this? 😕

A few days after submitting your FAFSA, your To Do List on your PeopleSoft account will have "Grad/Professional Admissions L". If you click on it, it will just tell you to submit a copy of your acceptance letter to the Financial aid office. They need it to verify your acceptance to the college, that's all.

I believe you will receive an additional email from UHCOP on how to activate your peoplesoft account since you are not yet a UH student.

You should.....she's SUPER SMART and friendly!!!😉

dudessss... we so have a "Last Page" when you click on the thread!!! I'm psyched about that!!! other schools must be super jealous!!!

okay i'm a little confused about this background check stuff. so i just did mine and i got the password and all that but on the sheet with the package code (the one you get with your acceptance letter) it says "Once your background check is complete, please provide your organization with the password in order to share your background check results."

what the hizzle is this talking about? we have to give our password to UH?

I don't know much about financial aid, but I remember someone in my class saying that they got some knid of grant.

Well if they got some grant that means that they didn't chose Grad degree. But the best thing is to call the Fin aid office and ask them. After talking to one of the fin aid advisors, I changed mine from Grad to 1st Bachelor degree. Like I said before, call and talk to an advisor.

Ok, so I got my interview invite yesterday for end of April! Woot, been waiting for this one.

I'm worried about the writing exercise and group discussion. Can anyone elaborate on this? I looked on the interview feedback and it mostly talks about the 1-on-1. Feel free to PM if you have any specific details you would like to share (the more in-depth the better!). Thanks in advance!

well i don't think its fair for you to know everything about the group and writing exercises. i didn't know anything about these exercises going in and that put me on a level playing field with other applicants. all i have to say is don't be worried. its simple stuff but the more you worry about it... the worse you'll do. just relax and you'll do well

yea, i just wrote my password on the paper we had to sign and hand in. i guess it's for them to look it up anytime they want, you can do it yourself too. all you need to do is put in the pass and last four of your social

Ummm...false. I selected grad student, as REQUIRED by the College, and received a Graduate Tuition Grant. I'm going to post some excerpts from the financial aid handbook to clear this up since people seem to not believe me even though I have a grant. Also, when you talked to financial aid did you talk to Shauna Owens? It could be considered fraudulent to select first bachelors because you are open to some grants (ie Pell Grant) that you cannot receive as a graduate student, which you will be.

When prompted to answer, "What degree or certificate will you, the
student, be working on…" Pharm.D. students must select "Graduate
or professional degree."

The following grants are awarded on a first come first serve basis. Maximum
grant amounts vary by year and require that students enroll in at least six hours.
Graduate Tuition Grants (Texas residents only)
Pharmacy Tuition Grants
Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)

**Pell Grants are not available for graduate students per federal regulations.

Those grants are clearly available to you if you select graduate/professional student because the university is assuming you selected that choice as is required by the College.

By the way, the orientation site has the Financial Aid Handbook available to you.

Just reposting my questions since, I think, they got "lost" in the shuffle. 🙂

CPhTtoPharmD,

Did you turn in your acceptance letter to financial aid office already? How long did it take for them to clear it out of your To Do List on Peoplesoft? I submitted mine on 3/26/08 but it's still showing on my To Do List.

Another thing, I was reading the Criminal Background check link (which they took down) on the orientation website and it was saying something about a "badge" that we're suppose to show to get drug tested. Where do we get that?

Dienophile and Aggie07,

How often do you guys wear "professional attire" to your classes? Sometimes, I see pharmacy students wearing business casual and sometimes I see them in jeans. I'm just thinking I might need to "expand" my wardrobe a little. Actually, just looking for an excuse to go shopping 😀.

Ethyl Methyl,
Most days you can just wear jeans and whatever. There are times when we dress up, such as if you choose to not wear scrubs to compounding your second semester, special lectures (1-2 times a semester), your once-a-semester CWE and when we go to help out with interviews. So not very often, but if you want to dress up to class go for it. However, on long days it's nice to be comfortable.

Thanks, Aggie07!

Another question, do you remember if you had to give the college the password to your background check report? CPhTtoPharmD and I assumed that the company who does the background check automatically sends them a copy of the report because there was nothing in the acceptance letter indicating that we should give them the password. But, as you probably read in the previous posts, there is some confusion about it. Maybe, you can clarify.

I don't remember doing that, but they are making some changes this year so I would go ahead and call and ask if I were you. I haven't had to do mine for next year yet.

Hmmm.... post time 4:18.... Get off your laptop and listen to the lecture.

For Ethyl Methyl:

I think you have a post saying that you turned in your acceptance letter for the financial aid but it is not showing up on your peoplesoft.

I just turned in mine today and they told me it will take about 5 business days to show up. I remembered you said you turned it in more than a week ago, so I think it's best to call them in case there's some problem.

For the background check:
I print a copy of the receipt and turned it in. I emailed Dr. Smesny but she hasn't answered yet. I'll update you guys when she does.

Excuse me, sir, but I am not the one bursting into spontaneous laughter back there...I see you over there with your laptop (obviously as you posted as well...) 😎

Thanks, IWang! I checked my Peoplesoft account two hours ago and I no longer have anything on my To Do List:clap:. Once you get to know me, you'll realize how I can be a little anal about these things sometimes.😀

I also emailed Dr. Smesny to clarify the whole confusion about the background check but I have not heard back yet. Maybe she'll email me tomorrow.

To those still to be interviewed, congratulations! If you have any questions please feel free to pm me but understand that I won't give you any specific details about the group and writing exercises. As for the interview questions, just go over the interview feedback.

Most dreaded: Cells I & II

I emailed Ms. Marine. Her and I are really cool and she always gets back to me the next day. Soooo... hopefully I'll hear something from her by tomorrow.

About the background check I just e-mailed Dr. Smesny my password and she replied confirming that she got it.

I have a question regarding the Peoplesoft account, so I got the e-mail with my ID number and I requested a new password but I never got the e-mail with the password. How long did it take before they send you the password? I'm getting anxious I feel so behind! :scared:

Oh man I'm still anxiously awaiting to see if I was accepted or not. It's only a matter of days now and I have no idea when to expect it. I heard some people that had the interview on March 19th already received an acceptance letter? Lucky! Oh well, I feel I did really well during the interview: I had Dr. Pass and he was really cool and we had a really good conversation in which he told me that I wrote so much in my interview questionaire that he didn't have to ask me so many questions. Ah, but still I'm so nervous/anxious about the result that I can barely concentrate on studying for my current classes.

This is first hand info regarding the password for background check, we don't have to give them our password. I hope this clarifies the whole confusion about whether we should provide them our password or not.

Don't you just have to change your temporary password after you log in for the first time? Maybe you can try that. If it doesn't work, maybe you can call the IT support or the college.

I just got a letter in the mail saying I was tabled. I know that basically means I have to wait longer to find out...is there any hope in that or will it basically go either way?

OMG! I got an interview invite yesterday!!!! For those of you who have been on this forum for the past several months .... You all know how much I want to go to UH! This is the only school I applied to, and after what seemed like an eternity (i applied back in October) ... I FINALLY GOT THE EMAIL! Now, I know this is not an acceptance, but I am just overjoyed that I will actually have the opportunity to present myself to the admissions committee. All my paperwork is due monday which gives me three days to get it all together, and I have to work the whole weekend! But no complaints ... I'm going to get it done!!! I have been following this thread very closely and I want to congratulate all the newly accepted students. Hopefully, I'll be joining you in the Fall! My interview is April 19th at 9:00 am so if anyone else has the same slot please feel free to PM me. I'm just delirious with excitement right now!

PS. Thanks for all the encouragement Dienophile! I hope to meet you on April 19th 🙂

Good luck pharmdiva 🙂

Congrats Pharmdiva!!! Go Get Em!!!

Wow... UH's Naplex pass rate was 100% last year. They're keepin it up!!! Woohooooo!!!

If you take a look at the number of graduates taking Naplex, you would see that they kicked out 28 students (125-97) to keep up their percentage....scary...:scared:

🙂 In a few years it'll be up to us to make sure the trend continues 😱 ! But no worries, I'm sure we'll all be well prepared by then. 🙂

PharmDiva, congrats and good luck on your upcoming interview.

they didn't kick them out. 97 applicants CHOOSE to take the exam (the 28 maybe have not felt comfortable taking it at that time). UH doesn't have control over who takes the exam and who doesn't.

From what I've heard, every graduate has to take the board exam within the same graduation year with only 2 chances (one in Aug and one in Dec, i think?). Failing the second time will cause them to do one more year rotation...right?

You can't just generalize that they "kicked out" those students. Some students decide after their first semester that they don't wnat to continue the program, some have unexpected circumstances that cause them to have to take a break from school, etc. Also, if they did fail a class they have the option to stay back a year and retake the class the next year. UH's attrition rate, if you will, is actually lower than the national average.

Yea I agree. Plus we don't know how many students the college accepted back in 2003. Don't know if it was 125 or less because most Texas schools have increased the number of students they admit since then (e.g. Tech accepted 79 students back in 2003 but is now accepting 90 in Amarillo and 40 in Abiliene)

quick question... if you drop a class (non-prerequisite class)... do you have to email the college and tell them?

yah and if that puts us under a full-time student schedule.. is that okay too?

I dropped two classes and I am now just taking 9 hours 😀. One of my remaining classes is not a pre-requisite but I believe it will help me in pharmacy school. I did let them know that I was dropping my non-pre-req classes though.

I know of a couple that dropped them all after they were accepted, but i don't know if they notified the college or not.
