Uh 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
just for everyone's information... dr. smesny said that UH may or may not use the interview date in may. she stated that some years they use it and some years they don't... it just depends. i'm pretty sure there are only two interview dates in april but i could be wrong.

I'm sure this has been answered before but are people who interviewed on March 7th supposed to hear this week or next week?

I sure thought it was last week. But Spring Break probably moves everything around.

March 7 interviewees should hear back this week or next, judging by UH's response time for past interviews I'm guessing it'll be the end of this week....

Just got my acceptance E-mail. For those who interviewed on Mar 7th, CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!

congrats!~~~👍

How's everybody's housing situation? I know UH is building a new dorm for graduate student 🙂 I am just wondering how many people is planning on finding an apartment, going to dorms or staying at home. I sort of want to live closer to campus since it might be easier to manage time with study groups, library, class or clubs and stuff.

From being to houston id say youd want to live as close to campus as possible, but I'd like to know what people who actually live there (and near U of H) have to say about it, and what the housing situation is around campus.

There are like three UH apartment complexes on campus and three dorm complexes. Everyone will probably agree with me when I say stay away from Moody Towers lol. The Quads are okay but really small like most dorm rooms. I dunno much about Cougar Place. The apartments include Bayou Oaks, Cambridge Oaks, and Cullen Oaks. I've provided the link to the housing information. Hope this helps!!! Oh and I live in Southwest Houston and it's about a 30-45 minute drive. Traffic REALLY REALLY REALLY sucks for those of you who aren't familiar with the area so yes it is advisable to live close to the campus. If you have two or more people (Katy area usually requires 3 or more in the mornings), you can hop onto the HOV lanes either from the North or the South. But yea traffic sux and so does parking!!! Leave early so you can beat traffic and find parking!! After a while you get used to it and you find back routes to take (i.e. I can take US 90, 288, or 610 down to my house to get around traffic on 59).

umm...is this discussion thread for students entering pre-pharmacy program in Fall 2008 or students entering pharmacy program..?

P.S. I would like some info on UH, it's pre-pharmacy program, etc!

If you don't already live in Houston, most people choose to live in the medical center because it is pretty close to UH and there are decent/nice places to live.

CONGRATS!!!!! to MrPrePharmD, cougarPaw, and Achilleus.

Thank you! And I'd like to extend a special thanks to you (CPhTtoPharmD), Ethyl Methyl, and dienophile. You guys are outstanding ambassadors of the UH COP program.👍

nooooo... YOU are awesome!!!! Thnx Kiki, CPhTtoPharmD, IWang, and Ethyl Methyl. Congrats IWang, MrPrePharmD, and CougarPaw!!!

Thanks and Congrats to you too Achilleus!! I was rooting for you to join us. I knew you were being too hard on yourself.

I live in the montrose/westheimer area, (not Homosexual though, highly homosexual community) and it is really close to UH and the med center. Im between 2 to 3 miles from each. It makes things so much easier being that close. Rent is a little higher. You can find some good deals at the link below. Most definitely stay inside the loop if not from houston. Another tip probably dont try any place less than a mile to campus the area directly around campus is not very nice, lots of bars on windows.

Yea... I try to avoid Scott Street as much as possible

Thanks for all the housing responses.

wahh so many decisions to make, housing, financial... 🙂 But I am not gonna complain!

can't wait for the white coat ceremony and meet everybody

btw, one question, if I am not getting a bachelor degree and simply just finish my pre-reqs, do I need to apply for graduation in my current school? does anybody know anything about that?

Thanks in advance!

also think about joining the Pre-pharmacy association

www.uh.edu/pre-pharmacy 🙂 we are awesome haha

Yea honestly I was freakin out. But I'm glad we both got in =) Those who have interviews coming up... I learned was that your answers to the interview questions don't matter as much as your personality. Don't get me wrong... you answers are important but I didn't feel as though I answered them that well at all. I was just really happy and joyful, real easy going, and talkative. I suggest you just be yourself and let your personality shine. Don't try to be something you're not... they will see right through you. Just pretend like you're talking to your parents, siblings, best friends, etc!! Easier said then done but trust me... the environment is so relaxed that you'll feel right at home =)

Aggie07!! We need your help on this please!!! I may be totally wrong but I don't think you apply for graduation. I just don't remember any of my friends mentioning anything about it last year when they got into UH. Not sure tho... could be wrong

Ummm, I'm not sure why you would apply for graduation as you won't have earned enough credits to graduate (unless somewhere between now and when pharm school starts you will have). Housing; live in the medical center.

A lot of our classmates live in Amli at the Medical Center, 7100 Almeda, and Versailles Park. Some live right on Holly Hall, I wouldn't recommend it unless you want something a little cheaper. On campus dorms are fine, some live there. A lot live with their families and commute, all up to you.

I believe the orientation website will have some sort of roommate matching thing; talk to people and go shopping around. Feel free to pm me if you have specific questions.

At first I thought pharmacy is a graduate school so I was wondering about the graduation thing. Sorry, I was confuse about the situation on how only people with degree fill out graduation forms. Thank you for letting me know 🙂

haha nah, I am usually in the 5th floor 🙂 just came down to the computer to check PPA stuff and 😱

I practically lived at the third floor a year ago  but 5th floor quieter for me, less temptations to talk and roam around
