Uh 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just had my interview today. My interviewer was extremely sweet. Good luck to everyone who interviewed with me. Hopefully, we'll see each other again next year on campus.

hi guys. maybe someone can help me out with this question. i've interviewed with a number of schools and have compared their curriculum to that of UH. it seems that other schools provide some of the same courses as med schools do such as microbiology, immunology, biochem, physiology, nutrition and then ur cardiovascular, endocrine, neurological diseases and others. seems like those schools are focused on general medicine and pharmacy while UH is focused solely on pharmacy. i understand that u take an organ systems course each semester of ur first year at UH but other schools devote whole classes to a specific organ system throughout the first three years. has anyone else noticed that and if so... what are ur thoughts on that... good or bad? thnx

I seem to remember a similar question from last year, so you might try a search. Also, I think partykiki may be a reapplicant as well. But i could be dead wrong about that. If all else fails, do not be afraid to contact somone at the COP. They want you to be assertive, trust me.

You were right, dienophile. I am a reapplicant....but the first time I applied was two years ago, when I was a sophomore. I applied again this year, interviewed at Jan 25 and got rejected. I was too embarrassed to tell but it's all good now, I got accepted to TSU AGAIN. (yeah, second time acceptance) Not my first choice but I am glad that I can start my pharmacy education finally.

pharm friend: see?! I really got rejected....like I said if you are waitlisted there's no way I would be accepted.

how long is the 1:1 interview supposed to be?

Achilleus,
We follow the guidelines set by our accrediting board. We do take immunology and biochemistry, and the organs systems class is quite comprehensive. I've seen you post before that you don't seem to think the UH curriculum seems that difficult and that might be the most ignorant thing I've ever seen on this board. Have you had your interview yet? I believe if you had you would not be asking this question now, so if you do have one it would be a god question for you to ask.

What are my thoughts on our curriculum? We've been told we won't need to study for the NAPLEX because we'll be ready when we complete the curriculum. We have a 99.9% overall passage rate on the NAPLEX, with a 100% passage rate last year. We are the only school to win the national patient counseling competition two years in a row and are known for counseling so much that we have a professor who is asked to travel to other schools and conferences to tell other schools what we do. I should add that she won the national patient counseling competition herself while at UH. We are the only school that gets to train in compounding at the Professional Compounding Center of America, and we get trained more extensively than the other schools that PCCA has to travel to. Unfortunately, UH has so many benefits that due to the challenging curriculum, I need to go study and can't list them all here.

Aggie07:

Thank you for your response to my question but I'd like to make a few points. I am VERY well aware of the accomplishments that the UH College of Pharmacy has achieved. I have been attending UH all throughout my pre-pharmacy career and know about our fine program here. I actually think my question was an intelligent one. I think it's good to bring up questions about the curriculum that one is uncertain about. After all, asking questions is essential to learning. If you mistook it as me bashing UH's program, then think again. UH is my top choice and has been for many years now. I am proud of the accomplishments that the program has achieved (those in which you had listed and many more) and I look forward to contributing to such accomplishments in the future.

As for my previous posts on this forum, I strongly suggest you go back and reread them. Please don't put words in my mouth. In my previous posts I was referring to Tx Tech's curriculum in comparison to UH's. See, Tech, like many other schools, piles up hours your fall and spring semesters so that you don't have to take classes during the summer. In contrast, UH spreads these hours throughout the fall, spring, and summer. So for APPLICANTS such as myself, Tech's curriculum SEEMS TOUGHER (not that it actually is). If you implied from this observation that I meant UH's curriculum was not difficult, than you are sadly mistaken my friend and it is quite ignorant of you to make such an accusation. We are all intelligent individuals here and we know that for ANY professional program, ESPECIALLY Phamacy, the cirriculum will be difficult to a high degree. But I must say Aggie07, I do value and appreciate your passion for the program. I have interviewed with a number of schools throughout the country and have not found a single one that has come close to UH. It undoubtedly has as difficult a curriculum as any other program out there, if not tougher. So please do not mistake my observations for those of ignorance or disrespect towards UH. Thank you for your insight on this matter. It's great to have the perspective of a student who is already in the program!!! Hopefully I will be in your shoes very soon.

Hahaha, I wish! Right now, I am in the middle of studying for 2 tests and writing 2 papers that are due this week.🙁 I am still grateful though... Hopefully we'll be classmates in August. Good luck!

Hey guys, I have an interview 3/19 and I'm working on the interview questionnaire. I am unsure of what one of the questions is asking. "At UH College of Pharmacy we see the ability to question and to think critically as essential to the learning experience. Tell us about something you once thought you knew with certainty but have since reevaluated." Is it asking about something I was uncertain about in like.. life? or a topic in school? or what? For those of you who have already gone through the interview, if you could give me any insight on what how to go about answering this question, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

It could be anything, really. For example, you may have held some belief earlier in your life that you now think is wrong. If you want to take something that you learned in school, think back to your social or history classes. Or you can think about current events that helped you changed your opinion about something.

I did mine on what I thought a pharmacist did and what I now know that they do. They just want to know that you dont go thru life with the same thoughts and never question your own thought or beliefs.

hahaha yes yes a webcam will do the trick. don't worry... it'll only be for 4 years then u get to come back and free load off your friends and/or family while trying to pay back all those pharmacy school loans 😀 yup that's my plan right there!!!

Does anyone know if UH has a point system in the admission process? Like A&M will say PCAT 15%, GPA 15%, interview 25%... Is UH doing the same thing or your GPA and PCAT only get you to the interview, and then acceptance only bases on interview?

dont know if they have a point system, but it is clear that all these schools have some kind of distribution.
I hope they had a chance to looks at some more applications, I need an interview invite...

don't worry. i think they have 2 more interviews in april and 1 in may (correct me if I am mistaken). so i'm pretty sure (not 100% certain) that interviews are still being given out. hang in there 🙂

One of the interviewee's I met a couple weekends ago told me that her interviewer did mention that they use a point system when they are looking at applications but I never asked her about the actual point distribution.

wow, not a single post today so far?
no news from anyone, I am sorry to say I have nothing to contribute today other than the fact that I didnt get any notice today, but that might be helpful to some.
cheers!

I called in today and Mr. Morgan told me my application is going to committee this week and if I had anything to update like my resume it would be best to do so today. So I should know pretty soon if I get an interview or not:scared:

Does anyone know how long the interview lasts for UH? By process, I mean not just the interview itself, but everything. Is it just the morning or is it an all day event?

Thanks.

I got to my interview at ~8am and left ~noon so about 4 hrs. It sounds like a long time but it goes by very quickly. Every one has a different schedule so people that are scheduke to be there at 8 get out at noon, but people that are schedule for 9 get out about 1pm.

It never seemed like there were 30 people there because there was always a group of doing something else.

i just finished the questionnaire stuff.. man am i glad to get that over with!!! i got no sleep yesterday =( but i'm used to that 🙁 i'm freakin excited about the interivew!!!!

CPhTtoPharmD, Thanks for the info.

I just got the acceptance email from UH. I interviewed on Feb 22, so if anyone else interviewed around that date, be sure to check your email today and tomorrow.

thank goodness the acceptance came this week! if it had come next week or the week afterwards, I would have gone to an interview at TX Tech. i was not looking foward to that long drive and the all day interview process at that school.

Congrats SHEW! Do you currently go to UH? I will see you in August.

HAha yep yep 🙂 That's one of the reason why UH is my top choice! Even during undergrat they are always helping me whenever I need something 😀 It feels like they really do care about their students.

Did you have interview with them today? 🙂 mine started at 8:15am today.

I agree!

I had my interview at the end of January. Congratulations on getting an interview! Hope you get in 🙂

Does anyone know if they sent out all interview invitations?

Does anyone know if they sent out all interview invitations?

No, UH has not sent out all of their interview invitations yet. There are still about 4-5 slots left depending on whether they choose to have a slot in May. Good luck to all of those that are still waiting 🙂 I spoke to Ms. Nekesa Berkley a little over a week ago, and she assured me that all is not lost. I started to give up since I applied so early (in October) and still hadn't heard anything yet. But she was very sweet and just told me to hang in there. So....hang in there guys 🙂

haha wrong post!!!!

Has anyone who interviewed on the 29th heard anything yet? Next week is Spring Break for UH. I hope to hear something before then; that week would be one long week to pass.

Nope, haven't heard anything... I wonder how many ppl from the 22nd interview have heard something. Patience is something that I don't have, especially at times like this 🙁

ShewPharm interviewed on Feb 22. He/She heard back last Thursday March 6th.

Has anyone been rejected without being interviewed? Or do they wait until May?

did anyone else get an email from morgan today stating that they were missing credentials and everything must be submitted by march 26th or their app is incomplete?!

bc i submitted my app in late october...and this is the first sign of contact from UH. today! worst of all..everything on my application says COMPLETE. theres no missing parts...
