I need help deciding between PCO and UHCO. Who has better board scores? Please HELP!!!!! It will cost me 13000 less to attend UHCO BUT I will be really far from my family on the east coast........please help.

I don't know PCO's board scores, but that really shouldn't be a key factor in your decision. Any school here will get you to pass the board if you really devote the time to studying. UHCO generally has a pass rate in the 90% range. The few students I know who failed admitted they didn't study.

You have to decide where you'll be happy for the next four years. No one can make that decision for you. I'm biased... since I went to UHCO. It's a fabulous school. Granted, Houston isnt the prettiest place, but the people are friendly, there's tons to do, and as you said it is cheaper than private PCO.

Good luck with your decision. I know it's not an easy one. I had to decide between UHCO and SCCO myself.

I had the same choice to make, and like cpw said you shouldn't base your decision off of board scores. They best advice I could give is one given to me: make a list of pros and cons; it is the next best thing next to eenie, meenie, miney, moe. It sounded ridiculous to me, but it helped me justify a decision that only I could make. When I made my list some factors I considered were, diversity of staff and student body, how I was treated through out the admissions process and interview, curriculum (how much clinical experience), location (the area the school is in and how far away from home it is), tuition (but also cost of living), campus clubs and organization (and special programs exclusive to the school), etc. These were things that I used to help me, as well as talk to CURRENT and PAST students and doctors that WENT/GO to the school. That is important, knowing how to separate heresay from the honest opinion of a credible source. I wish you the best of luck. :luck:

Yo!

I found this thread and thought "wow, these are exactly the two schools I'm deciding between." This thread is old, so I thought I'd bump it and get your opinions. lol

I'm leaning towards UHCO, in-state tuition, low cost of living, strong program, many resources available, a huge awesome clinic, close to home and people are friendly there. 🙂 However, I really liked PCO as well, and they really like me too. I received a scholarship, but not enough that it makes tuition any less expensive than at UHCO. PCO has a strong program too; I like their module system they got goin on. People there were also very nice and friendly! The main reason I wanna go to PCO (aside from academics) is just to get some change and get outta Texas, but it's really expensive to live there! 🙁

What are your opinions on both schools? If you were to choose, which one and why? Please give legit reasons, including non-academic ones. I'd def like to hear from you guys! Can you please comment on the level of camaraderie/competition between students at each school?

Thanks!
