I just received an interview invite for February 27! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry. It's not even the deadline yet. You may have a very good chance of getting an interview for a March or April date. UH has 8-9 interview dates, the very last one being May 1st or May 22nd. May 22nd is more like a contingency date.

So i applied on the first week of January, but there is a problem - I took the January PCAT and so its gonna be after the deadline that they would receive my scores, is there any chances for me to get in. UHCOP says in their website that they are also taking JAn scores. I am worried!!!
Also do you know how many rounds of interviews they have this year?

ok, both of you need to read ethyl's message. haque20 even quoted it and then asked. We dont mind answering your questioins but read first it saves time.

I was looking for an overall total. But since Methyl said that there are 8-9 interview dates and I'll assume that there are 30 people invited per date (since she said there were 30 during the first date). So does 240-270 total invites sound about right? With about 125 acceptances?

I am sorry for repeating the question..but i had asked two questions...n was looking fwd to getting an answer to atlst the first part, which wa my main concern...bt hey im sorryy!!

To address your concerns about the Jan. PCAT scores, they will recieve them, and it might be after that, they contact you about an interview. I have heard of people getting interviews before PCAT scores or LORs are recieved but it is very rare. And the rest of your App must be impecable. We had a training day for students who will be at the interviews the other day and they stated that they are expecting that half the people who do apply will apply in the next few weeks. So the admissions office will be very very busy and it may take a few days for them to process your PCAT scores when they do come in. Sorry about the statement earlier but so far this thread is not very long and has already having repeat questions just irriates me.

thanks for your reply!! hopefully it's not going to be a problem! btw do you know how many people applied so far?

CPhT and Ethyl,

I submitted my online application last week. And I mailed all the other required documents (except for LORs and transcripts, my transcripts should be there tomorrow) on 01/23. I know that those documents arrived on 01/26. But the documentation status page is still saying that everything is "not received." Do you think i should contact UH and make sure that they have received them?

Also, I forgot to put my social security number on my check. Do you think that's going to be a problem?

Thanks!

I would give them about a week.. I submitted and mailed my fee on jan 12. I called them also because I was wondering the same thing too bc UH is maybe 35 min away on a good day..I called them the following Monday and they told me that they received it..but my status page did not update until the 21st...so I would call if it would give you a peace of mind..but they will eventually update it.

Where in their website does it say that they are making this change? I looked for it on the pharmacy website and I couldn't find it. As for your chances, it's hard to say since you didn't mention your stats and ECs.

Give them ample time to update your status. They are usually receiving hundreds of applications during this time of the cycle. I say give them 2 weeks. Email them first. They are usually very prompt when answering email inquiries. If they don't respond in 2-3 days then give them a call.

As for not writing your social security no. on your check, I don't think that's a problem at all. It's a very minor thing that they can ignore or correct with a few strokes of a pen.

Thanks Ethyl Methyl. By the way, here's the info you're looking for on the PCAT.
Will you accept the January PCAT?
Because we have a February 15 deadline as well as a "rolling admission" process (completed applications are reviewed on a first come-first serve basis, we accept PCAT scores taken no later than October or November of the year prior to admission into our program. This admission year we are accepting the January PCAT; however, the student is really not encouraged to rely on this date due to the explanation above. We cannot guarantee that your scores will reach our offices in time to allow for interviews. Applying early and PCAT scores from from June, August or October of the previous year before the application deadline are encouraged.

Looks good! 🙂 GPA is competitive and ECs are great! I think you have a good chance. :xf:

My application was complete mid-November and I still haven't heard anything. I have decent stats:
3.93 GPA
pharmacy experience
leadership positions
tons of ECs
69 pcat

Would my low PCAT score prevent me from getting an interview invite? Also I submitted like 7 LORS which I read on the SDN boards was too many. They're good LORs though....should I contact the admin office to see whats going on? Thanks for any help! Enjoy the rest of the weekend 🙂

Thanks ethyl methyl for answering my question 🙂

I was just wondering how long you guys are writing for your interview questionaire responses. Some of my responses are two sentences because I don't feel the need to elaborate any longer..but I'm scared that's too short 🙁

I remember answering a couple questions with one to two sentences, last year. The way I feel is that if you can accurately get you point across then it doesn't have to be wordy, actually to wordy can be a bad thing.

HEY ETHYL,

I just realized how appropriate my avatar is now that we are doing compounding lab.

Thanks Ethyl!! Hopefully I get in!!:xf:Btw do you know if any interview invites for March have been sent out yet or not?...Just curious!!

Just to interject a little humor during this stressful time of applying to pharmacy school, I thought I would share this with those that hadn't seen it yet. I'm posting it in all the TX related threads.

I haven't stopped laughing since I first saw this. Poor Aggies :horns:

They usually dont send out invites until 4 weeks in advance. So most likely they have not. It might be some time this week they send out invites for the first interviews in march.

does this mean that the invites for the end of february pretty much over?

Yes the last february interview date is the 27th. And it looks like people have already been invited. They send out the invites all at one time, so that no one person has more time to prepare than another person.

I agree with CPhT.

HEY ETHYL,

I thought it was appropriate before, but, I guess, it is even more so now.

r there gonna be interviews in april this year..do u know?
how many interview dates are there for the march? 3???

Does anyone know when UH will hold interviews in March? and about when people will receive interview invitations? Thanks!

I submitted the online portion of the application today; I printed off my copy and all the blanks were filled out.

Strangely when I called the office today to inquire about my documentation status, they told me one column on my online app was left blank (pharmacist who will be writing my rec).

I'm so confused...they told me I can email the name to the admission office, but who?

Hi CPhT and/or Ethyl,
Since you guys are currently in there, do you know the current cost of tuition for non-resident/out-of-state tuition at UHouston COP, also any advice on the cost of living in the area (you guys living on/off campus, makes any different in terms of cost for rent?). Thanks in advance for the info as I'm still debating btw TexasAM and UH.

My second question is actually for a friend of mine who is an international student planning to apply to UH next year, do your guys know of any international student being accepted to UH (maybe your class year or previous ones). My friend just wonder how much of the chance he might have. Thanks in advance.

Long time reader, first time poster.

Got an interview to UH for 2/20/09 and just wanted to say thanks for all the help. This site was way too useful. 🙂

I searched the forums, but I couldn't find the "interview feedback database" (That where they keep the questions that other people got on their interviews, right?). Can someone post a link for that or point me in the right way?

I think there's at least one international student in our class. I'm not sure though coz I just heard it from someone.

You can email them to this addy:
[email protected]

They usually respond very fast!!!!!
GOOOD LUCK!!!

I think there are multiple people who are not US citizens but I dont know if that makes them an international student. I have heard of one person in our class that is an international student.

I think you might be referring to students who are permanent residents. Permanent residents enjoy just about all the rights and privileges a US citizen would (except for the right to vote).
International students are usually here on a H1 visa, but they have many conditions/restrictions in terms of their stay here.

just received an interview invite for 3/6! yay 🙂

about how long after the interview will we know about the status of our applications? thank you!

Hi everyone who are currently attending UHCOP, just want to know how do you like the program so far (ie. tuition cost, learning environment, student campus activities, etc) and the living conditions in the area (most students live on or off campus?). Thanks for all of the inputs.

Tuition is higher than other colleges, but still a lot lower than any private college. Learning environment is relaxed, professors have been there for awhile and most have a pretty good sense of humor. Student campus activities are mostly sport related, and there are a few other things, but a lot of students go out to the bars and clubs, and even the occasional house party.

I would say most students live off campus. The campus at UH is a little different in that the area surrounding the is really not very nice. The campus itself is very safe but the surrounding 3-4 blocks is not as safe. There is a lot of housing a mile or two away from campus. Most people stay in apartments and a few in houses. Also our class unlike most previous classes is made up of mostly houstonians, so a lot of people still live at home w/ parents in outlying areas. Houstons housing is on the higher end of the price spectrum. usually it is very hard to find a 1 bed 1 bath apartment, that you are not scared to go home to or afraid that cockroaches will carry you off in the middle of the night, for less then $600 a month.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions fire away.

Can you (or one of your classmates) reiterate what the schedule breakdown is for first years..as far as when classes are, how many classes taken at one time, block/not block. I'm trying to remember everything from interview day, but cant, and the website only breaks down what classes are taken and the hours.

The way the schedule works is that for first year we have our main lecture classes in the after noon. First semester for us was 1-3 or 1-4 pm mon-friday. Then we would have some Lab classes in the mornings, but these only occured every couple of weeks. Our semester now is Lecture classes from 1-4 or 1-5 pm mon-thurs. Then we have labs classes in th mornings, this semester we have to go to 30+ classes in the morning this semester. Our class is kind of the genipigs for the fridays off and a few other things. Classes are not block format. First year as with many pharm schools is mostly getting everyone to the same level.

P.S. you can edit posts instead or reposting.
