So I saw the thread about mis-sent acceptance letters and started getting paranoid about this. So has anyone that has been accepted to UIC, signed the accpetance agreement, sent in their deposit, housing, and all that good stuff actually 1. had their checks cashed 2. received any further information from UIC aside from the acceptance email? I sent my stuff delivery confirmation and I know they have it... I sure hope they didn't accept me by mistake. My other 2 acceptances, I've turned both down already, came through mail and were accompanied by large packets. If this is a fake I am soooooooo ****ed! I guess I'm not going to get any sleep tonight 😱

I think that was sarcasm when people were talking about schools sending acceptances by mistake. Seriously.

I really hope so.... But I won't lose sleep over it.

Maybe a fake accpetance is a little bit far fetched and I got a little carried away, but I don't think it's completely unfounded to be afraid that my checks could have gotten lost in the admissions office or something. I just want to know if other students attending UIC in the fall have received actual papers physically in the mail or have had their checks cashed.

It is true that I haven't gotten any physical mail from them, but I'm sure you got an e-mail about the manditory meeting on the 6/9. Also, I called UIC and they said that it takes days after delievery to the proper building. You can always call the admin office to be sure, but I don't think it is necessary though.

I also sent in my deposit and acceptance letter but have not heard anything from UIC. I didn't even get that email about the meeting on 6/9. I know they have my material because I sent it with delivery confirmation, but it still makes me a little uneasy. I was receiving letters almost every week after I accepted admission at another school. I hope this isn't a sign of how things are going to be during pharmacy school.

Yep I sent in all of my stuff to UIC (acceptance, depostit, housing) and haven't heard a peep! Hopefully they got it... :scared:

See ya'll there!

You won't hear from UIC if everything went correctly. UIC, in general, will only contact you if something went wrong. Sometimes, UIC tends to sit on checks for a while. Housing you should hear back soon. They will start giving out contracts in May to new students. If they don't receive the deposit or hear back from you, UIC COP will contact you and ask about your plans. You will receive an e-mail in May, and that will tell you how to set up your UIC id, get your i-card, etc. The college is just waiting to hear back from everyone before their next move. You should receive a physical acceptance from UIC admissions.

all this talk of fake acceptance letters is really making me feel uneasy!...hahah its really funny though

I havent heard anything from UIC either, but if you check you're application status online, its should say "Admit" in the decision part. I noticed that it just recently changed from "differed--hand review required" so that must mean that they got our intent to enroll forms...right?

What is this about a meeting on 6/9?....I havent heard anything

Yeah so I had a message on my voicemail from the dean saying that they hadn't gotten my deposit yet. I needed to call her ASAP or they were going to give my spot away!! AHH! I mailed it last Tuesday! So I called her back and left a frantic message. She called be back a little while ago and said that she received it today and that all was well. **Whew**

So... for those of you who haven't heard anything, just assume that everything is a-okay! 🙂

I'm glad I'm not the only one freaking about not hearing from UIC yet. I've checked my USPS tracking confirmation twice, checked my online bank, looked at the form to make sure I circled "will" instead of "will not" by accident, and I've even looked at my checkbook to make sure that I signed my check! 😱

I was going to email Ms. Fleming today but it must be OK if I didn't get an email or voicemail from them...

Yes, relax, this is how UIC works. You want to hear nothing. The next e-mail you want to receive from UIC COP will probably be through the pharm10 listserve. You will get sick of e-mails from that listserve. They know the mail is not always good. That is why I hand delivered my deposit to them.
Right now at COP, finals are in two weeks, and P3s are picking their clerkship sites next week. They want to get those two items out of the way before dealing with the new P1s. You will receive the next batch of information in May.

Direct quote from the email....

Furthermore, please hold the date of June 9th, 2006 for a mandatory UHP-COP New Student Welcome Seminar which will be held here in the college from 2 p. m. to 4 p.m. The Welcome Seminar does not preclude you from attending the college's general student orientation activities.

Not really sure what the welcome seminar includes, but its mandatory though ( My guess is more paperwork )

just want to ask why those who are going to UIC chose UIC over say...Midwestern, Creighton, or other pharmacy schools.

Was thinking Purdue, but UIC had three things going for them (not in any particular order)

1 Cost
2 Location
3 Great Education

And Purdue had 2

When did you get this e-mail, i havent gottten antthing yet! :scared:

Here is the rest of the e-mail to clear up any confusion...

Dear All:

On behalf of the Office of the Urban Health Program (UHP)and the Office of Urban Education Affairs, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate and welcome you to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy (COP) Class of 2010. The mission of the UHP is to improve the quality of health care services for medically undeserved urban areas by expanding health professions education opportunities to those who are interested in practicing in Health Professions Shortage areas of Illinois. The college is dedicated to graduating a cadre of pharmacists who will provide patient care and drive the pharmaceutical needs of society - extending from the people of Illinois to the global community. Be proud of yourselves and know that you are joining the best of the best in your journey to becoming world renowned pharmacists.
...

See you all soon.

Best Wishes.

Dr. Awé

Maybe this will help clear up some confusion about the email. UHP is a program at UIC: "The mission of the College of Pharmacy Urban Health Program (UHP) is to lend support to underrepresented groups (students, faculty, and staff) within the College, and to provide advice to the college's leadership regarding the recruitment, retention and development of these groups." So I guess only people that fall into the category of being part of an underrepresented group got this email.

UHP is only for minorities. If you are not a minority, you will not be in contact with the program. Even if you are a minority, you do not have to be a member of said organization.
The regular orientation and White Coat ceremony is not until August.

Anyway, I had the same doubt in my mind as all of you people about UIC, and getting my money, even though I delivered it in person, so I just emailed the school and got reply saying they recived my payment and everything is on track

anyone received anything regarding housing or financial aid from them???

I submitted my housing application early last week for SSR. You can find the app on the website. The fee is $150 🙁

As far as financial aid goes: I sent my FAFSA to them but haven't really heard anything beyond that. The pharm scholorships that are listed on the website are not for P1s.

Thats all I know...

At UIC, professional students are the lowest priority for financial aid. Last year, my financial aid was posted online by the first week in May, and I received the paper letter a week or so after that. Mind you, I sent my FAFSA in February. UIC financial aid does summer session than fall undergraduate, than graduate, than professional students, and that is done because for undergraduate and graduate, there are some truly limited grants available. There's no rush; classes don't begin until August 28, and tuition bills aren't sent out until the third week of class. When received, make sure you complete all of the requirements by the end of July to give the financial aid office at least a month to process it. The financial aid office is packed the first couple of weeks of class. You can't have a regular scheduled appointment until the third week.
Pharmacy students will receive Perkins Loans, subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford Loans.
Housing has started to send out contracts to new residents, but they won't send out a large number until the end of May to early June. Current residents have already chosen their rooms. Pharmacy students tend to be on the ninth or tenth floors of SSR. There is a way to get from SSR to COP effectively indoors, you have to cross Wolcott outside, through the College of Medicine/Clinical Sciences Building. There is an underground tunnel system. Once you get here, make sure you get directions or figure it out because on cold or rainy days, it is nice.

only stafford and perkins?

also about pre-reqs, if they accepted you, that means they have accepted the classes I've taken as meeting their pre-reqs right? I remember completing something for them in the supplemental, but I forgot what's on it...

my school has a highly developed pre-professional program for health schools. my advisor (the director) always told us to always look for the hard copy of acceptances, etc. NEVER an electronic copy.

just some of my 2 cents.

I'm doing the housing apps now. Where do I get the University Id #? or do I leave it blank??

If you have been accepted, they have determined your pre-reqs are equivalent to UIC's courses. To ease your mind, online they do have some equivalency guides.
On your paper acceptance you should have your UIN. If that has not been sent yet, then contact the Office of Records/Admissions. If you have your UIC enterprise id, you can find it on the Banner system. You can also leave it blank or use your SS id. The id # begins with a 6 and is 9 numbers long.

Eh, I left it blank...

Does UIC classify pharm students as undergraduate or graduate? Isn't there a difference in the type/amount of financial aid you get based on how they classify us?

I believe that we are classified as professional students. From the research that I have done we have much less financial aid available than graduate and undergraduate students. 🙁

Professsional student, which is an offshoot of gradute student. The difference between professional and grad is that graduate students can get TAs/GAs. The letters should be starting to come out because they have finally set the fall tuition. Bad news is that for me the tuition/fee increases total $1600, and for you, a new UIC student, the increase will be $2100.

So, did you guys get your letter from UIC's Office of Admissions & Records with the Immunization Form we're supposed to complete and send 4 weeks from receipt of said letter?

If so, what do you make of Part 3 of the Immunization Form? I'm assuming we're supposed to get that done by the same physician completing the form, yes?

As long as you send in your Immunization form by the start of the Fall semester, you are fine. If it is not handed in, they will place a hold on your account for the Spring semester. Since you're a Pharmacy major, you have to fill out the entire form. Part 3 is just polio and tb test, if I recall. State laws do not require regular university students to show proof of those immunizations, but they do for health science students. Keep an extra copy of proof of immunizations for experential in the Spring.

Anyone receive anything new?? I saw that they finally cashed my deposit. However, I haven't heard anything from them regarding housing, financial aid, or when classes start even though I turned in my housing stuff and fafsa stuff already. No email either absetting up id cards or anything either.

I haven't heard anything about housing or financial aid... but I can't remember if i put UIC down as a school that should receive my fafsa stuff. 😕
I did get an email about orientation on June 22nd, so you should have gotten that a while ago. There is info about the white coat ceremony in that email as well. Also, in the packet about immunizations there is information about setting up your UIC email account. Yay!!
Feel free to pm me! I am too excited!

Classes start on August 28. I do recall there was an e-mail about setting up your i-card, Enterprise i.d. etc. The ACCC has a link which you can use to find your net i.d., and with that, you can set up your e-mail. With your UIN, you can set up you Enterprise i.d. and look up your financial aid, bills, register for classes. Housing should be received soon. I've already received my notice for prepayment. Call them and ask about your status.
You set up your i.d. card by going to UIC, and having a driver's license, state i.d., or passport with you. There is an i-card station in the SCW (also known as CIU).

Okay. I set up my netid and enterprise id (why do they have to have separate ID's?). Checked under financial aid and it says award summary not available yet. And also no word about anything else. I'm still trying to complete my immunization forms, apply for an Illinois tech license, and send in my final transcripts. Anything else I have to do? I'm out-of-state so do I have to do more??

Enterprise id is not a UIC application. It is an University of Illinois application. It is also relatively new.
Everyone, in-state or out-of-state, fills in the same forms. Do not sit on the Pharmacy Technician license. In my class, there were people who did not apply until right before the start of experential.
I, a continuing student-a P2, already received my FAFSA information from UIC. The default pharmacy student Stafford Loan numbers are subsidized $8,500, and unsubsidized $22,500. The combined annual maximum for 2006/07 is $31,000. Pharmacy students can also receive Perkins loan and the Health Professions Student Loan. The COP financial aid counselor is Mike Altman, [email protected].

Called housing today and they said all fall starting contracts would be mailed out next week. But they haven't even cashed my deposit yet, hopefully they got mine.

I saw this on the self-service:

Fed Perkins Loan - Pharmacy Offered $2,000.00
Direct Loan - Subsidized Accepted $8,500.00
Direct Loan-Unsubsidized Offered $22,500.00
Grad PLUS Loan (info enclosed) Offered $4,710.00
Total $37,710.00

They'll mail me the forms to fill out, right? Any loans I should stay away from?

From the time they post your award online to the time you receive the actual physical forms is about 1 week. Fill them out and finish all of the promissory notes and financial aid counselor asap.
You are from out-of-state and so you have a bigger award than me.
The unsubsidized loans are the Direct Loan-unsubsidized and the Grad PLUS Loan. The Grad PLUS Loan is new. The Direct Loans will have a fixed interest rate of 6.8% starting this year. UIC for some reason did not update their financial aid information packet to state that fact and the fact that Grad students can receive the PLUS Loan. The PLUS loan has the highest interest rate and it is not subsidized.
You are planning on living in SSR. More than likely you will be placed in a 2/3 person suite. Most of the apartments go to continuing students. That price is $5524- an increase of about $200 from last year. Internet is $40 per semester. Cable is another $40 per semester. I have no idea where the west side residence hall computer lab is going to be because the building where it was located is closed for the fall semester, but you can always use the Pharmacy computer lab, and you can get your i-card coated to allow you entrance into the Goldberg Building because it also has a 24 hour computer lab. Your tuition and fees is an extra $500 than my tuition and fees because a new fee has been added, but it will only affect new students.

Internet and cable are not included in the SSR rent? Also, at the end of the academic year, where do we stay when the contract ends and we still want to stick around?

Yes, internet and cable are not included. There are two types of SSR contracts: academic year and all year. If you are planning on staying in SSR all year, you want to be on the 12-15th floors because those floors have the all year contracts. If you have the academic year contract and want to stay, you pay for interim housing. I believe it's $15 per day. They also have a flat rate for the entire interim. You would go to the housing office and arrange it.

Is orientation day the same day for everyone? Is it required for out-of-state students to go too? Because I didn't get an email about orientation yet and I heard this year it's on June 22nd.

To be honest, I can't answer this because they did an experiment with my class's orientation. Best thing to do is to e-mail the OSA. Try Dr. Agard, Dr. Tenhouve, or Ms. Fleming.

Yes, it's mandatory for ALL students....
