I never thought I would in this position but I need your help guys between these two schools. I got my acceptance letter this morning from NYU with an offer for $25K in scholarship per year renewable for the duration of four years as long as I maintain a 2.0 gpa; I think this brings down NYU total costs down to $205,000 upon graduation. I also got accepted to my state school, University of Illinois at Chicago and was offered a graduate assistantship, which means I put in 10 hours per week and I get my tuition waived and also get paid $667 per month in stipend; 10 hours put in could involve anything from representing the school at conferences to making phone calls for the college. Bottom line for UIC is that I woould probably owe about $100,000 upon graduation. It would seem obvious which school to go to but it seems that NYU is more recognized than UIC... BMW vs Toyota. Also, do you guys know if NYU has a MANDATORY SUMMER SESSION or have an electronic version of NYU's curriculum? And just in case you are wondering, here are my stats:

Undergrad Major: Mechanical Engineering
Minor: Math
Undergrad GPA: 3.1
Postgrad GPA after 40 hrs of Science Classes: 3.8
DAT AA/PAT: 20/15
Bios 19, Orgo 21, Gen Chem 20, RC 21, QR 17

Hmmm... $205K vs. $100K, this should be an easy decision, imo.

I dont think this should even be an issue.

UIC for sure.

No brainer, UIC. both will give you a great education, UIC will be a lot cheaper. Chicago vs New York, nothing to compare. Rangers Vs Blackhawks. There both terrible right now! Unless you really want a change of location!

No offense but NYU must be really desperate for students this year.

By the way, 20K is still high for dental school education.

NOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Festac I sent you a PM. I am on UIC waitlist..please please please go to NYU (lol). In all seriousnes its up to you (although I hope you choose NYU). When do you think you will decide? Hockeydentist...the NHL is no longer...hockey was dead in Chicago after 1992. However, Bulls basketball is back and Ben Gordon is the truth! Hopefully the Bulls dont let Curry, Skiles or Chandler go. Anyway festac where from? I am in Northbrook.

By the way and this is just a rough guess if you went to UIC and had to pay tuition every year you would owe roughly $120,000 compared to $100,000 thats not much savings....in the end its your decision but I hope you make it pretty quickly.

no offense but are you an u.r.m.?

i ask b/c getting a scholarship from nyu is not easy esp. with so many people willing to pay full fare.

i would go to nyu if i were you esp. if you are an u.r.m., there's no way they'll kick you out and if they try, appeal to the minority office. the minority office will hang your dean's balls out to dry.

Why would this even be a concern?

maybe b/c they kick out a significant number (not percentage) of students over the first two years.

also, at my school many full scholarhip students have left due to academic problems

They only kick out the students who consistently show that they are good at failing courses. If thats the case, then they dont deserve to be in school. The student is the one making the decision to get kicked out, not the school.
