If you dont want to listen to an hour long recording, press 0 right away! Its good to call every week, it shows interest and you might just find out some information on where your application is if you are persistent!

I know there are many people who check this thread who are in my position...aka "applicant in process". For some reason this thread has turned into uic's post interview thread, but for all of you in my position, here is some information I found out today that might clarify the process a little bit.

So from what i've heard from many people, there is some sort of point system that they use to initially screen you. If your numbers are good, you get through the initial screening and your application gets sent out. If they aren't then you don't even get a chance to get looked at, you get a rejection right away. When your application does get sent out to the committee, it could get sent out to one of several locations, and apparently each one has its own pace. You get reviewed by two people. If both of them agree on the decision, either to grant or not grant and interview, then w/e they agree on is what happens. Now this is what happened to me, apparently if they disagree then it takes another 100 centuries for your application to get reviewed. It gets sent to the dean of admissions and he "mediates" the file. So his decision is the "final" decision. Then the application gets sent back...blah blah and you either get an interview or you don't.

As far as getting reviewed a second time, I've heard that you will get reviewed if you don't get an interview, and I've heard that you don't. But from all the information that I've pieced together, i can say that you probably wont get reviewed again. If it took the committee 2 months to decide on an application, they are not going to have time to spend another two months, may be if they do review you , it might be a maximum of 2 times. So for those of you who are "applicant in process", hang in there! And call them every Thursday to show interest. UIC seems to love interest in their school!

I hope this helps, and anyone who has anything else to add...or correct in my explanation...feel free to because all this information is from what I've heard from the counselors and they can give some varied answers sometimes!

That was super informative... thanks for posting it.

oh really? are you at UIC right now? and i'm at uic as well right now..finishing off my degree the following semester..and hopefully an acceptance at uic

Hey all --

I got my letter today and got the chicago campus.. it was dated December 18th and my card got there on December 12th at 6 am..

Hope everybody else hears soon

Yeah...my own little story is that the guy "flagged my application for inquiry" after I called 2 weeks in a row. Said something along the lines of "That's odd because a file that got in when yours did should've been reviewed by now, I'll flag it for inquiry." It changed to Applicant in Process a few days later and I got an interview invite 2-3 weeks after that. Had I never called, the delay in my interview invite might have been substantial.

Somebody else noted here earlier that they were also marked for inquiry just from repeatedly expressing interest on thursday-call-ins.

This is interesting, but I don't know that it helps a whole lot. I doubt you'd be able to call UIC on a Thursday and ask whether your two reviewers are disagreeing 🙂. If this is true, then I think the best you can do is call in every Thursday before you get an interview to express interest in order to get your file to move along.

That's pretty much the solution for every post that a pre-interview-invite-applicant has had on here. There's not much more that can be said, which is why you might feel that the thread is post-interview biased.

I once called when i was really tired and for some reason pressed 1 instead of 0, but hadn't realized my mistake. It asks for your name and address, and I said it thinking that maybe they'd put in something to pre-screen calls, and then it just says "message sent". I can't help thinking that eventually someone will check those messages and think I'm an idiot.

yep.. I actually just graduated last week! I wish they'd give some of their own students some love..

Do you know if it makes a difference if you *started* as "Application" vs. "applicant"? Someone said people with higher points start as "applicant"... I wish they would explain the difference.

i shouldve sent my deposit sooner. i just sent it today and so it's past the due date - dec 19. Does anyone know how quickly it takes for the Chicago campus to fill?

wood41, a poster above said that the Dean said Chicago isn't full yet. Your problem is not whether it's full; it's whether the admissions office accepts your deposit. It will be postmarked after the due date, so I'm not sure what to tell you. If you have a compelling reason for the delay, I'd get on the phone ASAP tomorrow morning lest you risk losing your spot. Good luck.

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and UIC is my top choice. I interviewed in early December and a decision was supposed to be made at yesterday's AdCom meeting...but my status has NOT changed yet on the website (i.e. it still says "Decision Pending"). Is this normal? I thought they're supposed to change it the next day or something. Has anyone else's status changed...and if it has, when did it change...or for those of you who are accepted...when did your status change after the AdCom meeting?

Thanks!

Yup! I wouldn't say you should worry until other people post on here that their status has changed.

By the way, has anybody whose status didn't change after a previous adcom meeting received snail or email from UIC about their status?

I interviewed last week and my status has changed from "decision pending" to "a decision has been made." From all I've read I think this is good news! So everyone, the decisions from the December meeting have been made and posted, I think!! Good luck!!! :luck:

thanks! i just checked again!! alfalfa, did yours looks something like this:
"A final decision was made on your application on... Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."?
just checkin'....are they going to wait until post holidays to send em out??

congratulations blueangel and alfalfa, that means you've been accepted

Congrats you two! I believe someone posted earlier that they're waiting until the new year to send the packets.

So the consensus is that post interview, a message that a decision was made on XX date means you are accepted?😳

so before I go out and celebrate...because I got the same (a decision has been made) message post-interview....what should it say if you got rejected or waitlisted? Are you absolutely positive that this message doesn't come if you get rejected/waitlisted either?

1. Read the rest of this thread

2. Go CELEBRATE!!!

Congrats to all

It's like, I want to celebrate...but I just can't yet without being 100 percent sure.

if you were rejected/waitlisted you would have not seen any change to your status. This has been confirmed many times (you can read through the thread).
All those who saw the message you see were accepted.
go and celebrate!

Haha, I understand somewhat. But if you feel that way, then don't celebrate. You should be able to keep a quiet confidence that you got in, though.

I understand where League is coming from--the "omg I had a status change that both this year and last year has always meant I will get an acceptance letter. But are we absolutely SURE it means that!? Omg I'm so nervous for my letter" posts are getting a little tiresome.

I'm sure I'll feel the same nerves if I receive that message post-interview, but posting that you received that message means you're due for congratulations on this thread.

If you're not accepted your status remains decision pending.

Yeah, that's exactly what I found on my account. Sorry it took me so long to reply, I just returned home. CONGRATULATIONS! Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Good luck to all! :hardy:

do they only designate your site once youve sent your hep b and transcript to them... they received my deposit and the site pref form and safety contract but they didnt approve the site i wanted yet. do i just wait?

they don't need the hep b or transcripts to designate your site. sit tight! i'm sure you'll find out soon. (they send the site preference in the mail, you won't find any indication of it on the online status).

I totally know where you're coming from. But you know none of it is in a mean-spirited way. But just relax everyone. No need to worry for another few months.

i got the decision has been made on date XX message, corespondence in two weeks, blah, blah. hopefully that means i'm in too!

I got the XX date message too! i'm not letting myself celebrate just yet....it still seems too good to be true! i guess i'll buy some champagne, but not pop the cork yet. 🙂

for those of you getting the status changes, when was your interview?

So I'm accepted at UIC in the Chicago Track. But I'm also accepted at SLU and Indiana. I really liked all of them when I visited (I've always been horrible at making decisions like this...). A lot of you seem really excited about UIC...so can you share why you are excited???

It's cheaper...what else do you want?
And like St.Louis or Indy could compare with Chicago anyways...

Same here. Chicago has some incredible medical training. That said, if something about SLU or Indiana really touched you, you could always rotate here.

For all of us who had a status change Friday...do you think there's any hope they sent them before they took off until Jan 2nd? I'm pretty sure they're holding off until then, plus judging from this forum, it looks like it takes a couple of days for them to send them off...but I thought I'd ask if anyone has heard differently.
Thanks!

hey blueangel, when and which campus was your interview?
i'm trying to figure out if my date was reviewed or not =)

thanks!

Interviewed 2 weeks ago, status change Friday, big white envelope in the mail today!!!! Thanks for the best Xmas present UIC!!!!!!!!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for Chicago campus.:luck:
Oh and if you are wondering I live in north suburbs of Chicago.

That was nice of them to mail out the acceptances before they left for break!

And Phoenix, what are you doing still posting in our thread? Shouldn't you be in your lovely LLLLLOOOOYYOOLLA thread? Haha, I'm TOTALLY just kiddin' with ya, hope you're not offended 😉

No offense taken at all. You guys have got a rockin' thread here. 😀 Not as many Loyolans about I think. And anyway, as long as I'm holding onto my UIC acceptance I feel somewhat justified posting here. I plan on making my final decision in April, but Loyola does hold the lead. So until then, you may have to put up with my antics. 😎 And anyway, it sure would be fun to meet all of you as M1s next year!

I got mine in the mail yesterday too! Woohoo! I agree, best Christmas present ever.

Dreamer84--I interviewed in the first week of December I hope that helps!

Congrats to all my new classmates! 😀 I just got my site assignment letter today - Chicago. Woo! Makes me hate the USPS, though. Letter was dated 12/18, postmarked 12/18, and not delivered until 12/24. *eyeroll* Ah well, wasn't a bad Christmas present this morning!
