Whew. Loyola's tuition is $37,700 for each of the four years (with an approx. max 3% increase each year). No misrepresentation there! 😛 I spoke to a woman in the financial aid office, because otherwise, the only info I could find was this:

http://www.meddean.luc.edu/admissions/factsheet.htm

Ok, so I double checked on UIC's site, and it appears that they only charge the surplus for the summer after MS2 and MS3. The 2007-2008 tuition is about $25,500, and the summers are each $9,344:

http://www.uic.edu/depts/mcam/finaid/pdf/2007-2008/2007_2008_COM_Student_Financial_Aid_Budgets.pdf

So, figuring four years, without the minor annual increases that occur at both UIC and Loyola, tuition would be:

UIC: $120,000
Loyola: $150,000

So, there is a $30,000 tuition difference. But it's not the $48,800 difference there appears to be if you don't know about the surplus summer charge.

Wait a minute. I just looked, and Loyola charges $3,000 for four years of fees. UIC charges $12,000 in fees for the four years (including the two summers). So, that brings the difference between tuition and fees to be:

UIC: $132,000
Loyola: $153,000

Difference: $21,000

Difference: $21,000

aka half of your salary in residency + interest. While Loyola's a great school and a great value as well, I don't think a $21,000 difference should be downplayed. But thanks for the info and research Phoenix.

While I wouldn't sneeze at $21,000, I also wouldn't pick one school over another based on that amount. But this is really a personal thing, and a lot comes down to perspective and circumstances. I'm fortunate to not be going into this process with any debt. If I had large undergrad or post-bac loans, I might not be so quick to discount it. But I also wouldn't measure it against residency salary. Those 3-5 years are going to be a blip on the screen in comparison to med school debt and later full-physician salary.

Regardless, the only reason I was posting this here was to point out that the financial difference between UIC and Loyola isn't as great as it first appears. I'm actually surprised it's only a $21,000 difference. Divide that over four years....

Which UPR campus is better-- Peoria or Rockford? Does anyone know the major differences between each campus in terms of academics, clinical experiences, rotations, and residency match?

There are links and opinions on this info a few pages earlier in the thread.

anyone getting anything different from "decision pending"? god this is so nervewreking!

It really is, anybody know how long they take to change the status, has anybody's status changed today in the last two hours?

My status just says applicant in process :S. When I called yesterday, they said it should change by today or early next week. If not, then I should call the office on thursday to check my status again.

Are there other people still waiting to hear about an interview or are all of you post-interview?

nothing here...

Hi everyone, I got a letter yesterday inviting me to an interview and I'm going Feb 8th in the morning in Chicago. Anyone else going that day?

LBJ23 when did you interview?

i think most of us are referring to post-interview when we talk about status change...but if it helps, I was in "applicant in process" for a LONG time...months...before I got an invite.

You just got an invite? How did you get such an early interview?

My guess is their online status changed for an interview and Inzi didn't notice. Though the letters have a way of not making their way to people, sometimes they do.

It was the last spot left for Feb 8th idk luck maybe? the next open date isn't until around Feb 28th (thats for all four interviewing locations).

I am little bit confused. I called to schedule my interview at the beginning of January and the earliest date they had open (in Peoria) was March 18th. It seemed from looking at the interview scheduling on the status check page that the other campuses were also into mid-March. I am confused why there is now talk that there are openings in February and how Rabo got a Feb. 8th date. Any ideas?? Anyways, congrats on the interview Rabo and good luck to those waiting for the status change 🙂

Thank you, maybe some people decided not to interview anymore and that opened up some spaces? When you call ask them to check and double check the openings, Because I saw 16 openings for Feb 8th and she told me there was none. She said that they get a more updated version or something but I asked her to double check and there was one spot open in the morning.

Good luck for all of the people waiting.

congrats, that message means you've been accepted. everybody who has gotten that message has been accepted, no exceptions.

Congrats to those with status changes! You made it!👍

I'm never TOTALLY confident, it would take them winking at me or just handing me an acceptance packet or something for me to think it was a sure thing 😉
If we're right and it's good news, I'm definitely going. You all?

Just received the same message. Hope its good news. Congrats to everyone else.

Congrats guys!! I'm still pending, am i done or is there still a chance that it will change on sat. as was mentioned in a previous post 😕

yeah its SO exciting but im so nervous too...i havent heard anyone who still has "decision pending" after the december interviews.

As far as my interviews, the first interviewer I had no idea how to read him. The med student who interviewed me was so enthusiastic about me and that one went well. The third interviewer just talked to me about one specific extracurricular activity, and nothing else...so i was unsure, but she seemed interested.

But from what I hear from a UIC med student, if you get an interview, they are interested in you...but the interview cannot make you, but can break you. If you are rated between a 3-5 on the rating scale for various categories during your interview, apparantly they are okay with it, but if its less than 3, then its a red flag. SO its almost as though they expect you to be normal...otherwise they don't like you.

I also sent in a letter of intent and planned activities before starting medschool in the fall, along with an updated transcript....so maybe that showed interest? lol, we'll see if I get the large acceptance packet in the mail 🙂 sorry for the long post, but congratulations to you as well!!!

LBJ, i hope it changes for you...please post asap if it does change...who knows, maybe they update the system after entering each person's status change, and they just havent entered yours? maybe?

dont lose hope, cuz they're not rejecting anyone yet, according to some previous posts in this thread.

Just called the admissions office and they said there have been NO cancellations and there are NO openings for interviews in February. Very interesting.......looks like you were pretty lucky to grab an early date Rabo! I guess I will just have to be patient and wait til March 18th.

Lots of congratulations to those with status changes! That is so exciting. I hope to be in your position one of these months!

haha thanks Soon  yes, if i get in, im SURELY going there. hey maybe we'll be classmates!!! what campus are you hoping for?

I'm hoping for Chicago, although it kind of seems like every single one of us is...
Looking back, a lot of people have heard something within about 4 days if they're close to Chicago. Here's hoping!

Congrats guys!! I'm still pending, am i done or is there still a chance that it will change on sat. as was mentioned in a previous post 😕

Have my fingers crossed. Keep us posted.

I'm definitely going if this is what we think it is right! IDK, even with the change, I think i really need to hold the packet. Hopefully some of us if not all of us will be classmates!

Again congrats guys!

holy crap i need a drink.

Mine's still decision pending as well 🙁. Has anybody who interviewed on January 18th's status changed?

Edit: Or January at all for that matter. Though the 18th would be more helpful for me.

I interviewed that day. But my status only just changed about an hour ago, so it may be they're working through a list. (Plus I'm still not comfortable saying it's certainly a yes.)
Good luck.

Soon....it's definitely a yes you newb (message board slang what). Thanks for the info, though. It's acutally my theory that they load the message changes into the system all day and then change them all at once. So LBJ I think we're headed for the waitlist.

Hey Bond sorry to hear that but there's still a lot of time. I also interviewed on the 18th and the status changed the same time as Soon.

Did you interview morning or afternoon? Either way, if I did meet you, I do hope you get in and to see you next year.

Krypto, Tensyle, et. al,
Totally. There are so many med schools here they should have Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted drink specials. Cuz you know we all need one.
I spent most of last spring waitlisted, drinking red wine and reading SDN 😉

I interviewed on 1/18 as well, and was also hoping my status would change today. My status still says "Decision Pending," which is a huge disappointment because I really liked the school and thought my interviews went well. 🙁

I also interviewed on January 18, and my status has changed. Good luck! We're pulling for ya!

👍🙂

Do you live in the Chicago Area, mind buying me one.

haha yes i do live in the chitown area, and sure, drinks on me for you and 'Soon'.

haha i know what you mean! My first rejection I got this application season....I Skoall'd it up baby. And then came more of them...after a while it became a tradeoff between saving my liver or saving myself from reality lol

Thumbs down on the behavioral sciences requirement. I live 5 minutes from the campus and because of that I won't even be applying there.

congratulations to everyone that has been accepted and I also got the same status change, and for those that are still waiting, keep in there because uic has a good amount of movement in the waitlist and you'll be reviewed again!

NOw to go have a good time!

For what it's worth, they do accept online or community college classes to satisfy them. And you could always apply to UIC, and if you get in there and nowhere else (or nowhere else locally or that you want to go to), you could always take those courses online in the year or summer before you matriculate. Just a thought.
