jak's tap is a bar/restaurant. if you go early enough, you don't have to be 21 to be in there (like for dinner). i doubt they'll go around checking id's later on. just don't drink and you'll probably be fine.

it COULD be a rejection but its odd that they are handing out rejections for that message now....because dean girotti said uic isn't handing out any post interview rejections right now....thats supposed to happen much later in the cycle..i guess cross your fingers and hope they made a mistake and found they never changed your status! and wait for your letter...i hope its a white packet! best of luck 🙂

I'm going to try to come to the get together on the 16th, but my brothers are coming in from Michigan that weekend, so we'll have to see. We're supposed to go to the auto show. 🙄

first time poster. just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! to the recent group of people who received their acceptances. interviewed on 1/7, received the status change on 1/25, but didn't receive the acceptance packet until today! was nervous reading everyone getting theirs a few days ago, but was hoping that it was just due to living in the middle of the ocean. thankfully it was and congrats to everyone! ive been loving the atmosphere of this thread in the past few days

Yup, I was in the morning session. I'm Asian, 6'0, and sat in the second row all the way to the left of the room while waiting and during the orientation.

So ... nobody else had their status change on 2/1? It's unlikely the admissions committee even met that day (since they made decisions on 1/25)! Sigh ...

usually only people who get accepted get the status change. but after a certain point in the admissions process, everybody they made any kind of decision about, will have a status change. Those who get put on hold will continue to have "decision pending". That's what I understood from reading the previous posts on this thread.

When is that certain point in the admissions process? I dont know, but I think February is probably safe.

also - something i keep forgetting to mention, but when i interviewed the student who showed us the on-campus housing/dorms quoted some ridiculous number for rent in chicago. i live 1-2 miles north of the campus and have an awesome 2 bedroom apt which is $990/month (total - not per person). you can find nice places to live nearby pretty easily and for not that much!

how are you able to shell out close to a grand for housing, when you cant really work during medical school?

anyone else have insight on this matteR? how are we supposed to pay for apartments in the uic area, when we're not working? will the educational loans package enough to give us money that way? or are parents helping out?

i HIGHLY doubt this is true. as a matter of fact, from what i heard, they overfilled last year and this year they are being more cautious about how many acceptances they are giving out.

The fin aid pkg that UIC gives us will allocate a certain amount of money for our living expenses. I believe it varies from year to year. One thing you want to look for is whether or not the allocation is for 9 months or 12 months. If it is for 9 months, then you may need to get extra money from your parents or budget accordingly.

Also, engineers actually has a good deal... paying ~$500/mo/person ($1000/mo was the total cost of the place.)

i really want chicago...but i dont think the odds are very good. when i dropped off my site pref. and acceptance letter to the adcom office, the lady there said that the last time she checked, chicago was completely full. but there is some movement after may 15th, when people drop acceptances in favor of other schools.

when this happens, they consider petitions of people who did not get their first choice.
