I'm a UK medical student hoping to go to the states after F1 year to do residency there.
Does anyone know about how this affects GMC registration and coming back in future should I want to do so?

It seems the UK doesn't really recognize US post-grad training. I'm interested in surgery specifically. Does anyone know more about this?

thanks

F1 will give you full registration. However we obviously finish in August and in America you would start in July - that could cause you some problems. Your foundation school may allow you to take all of your annual leave at the end to get around this but it's unlikely. If you plan to stay in the US forever there is no real point to doing F1.

If you got to the level of board certified attending you could come back to the UK and work as a consultant after jumping through a lot of hoops and possibly only in certain specialties. You cannot switch back and forth between the two countries every few years. Train where you want to end up, the systems are incredibly different.

hello! on the GMC website, it says that to be eligible for PLABs, one must have completed 5500 hours of study. How many credit hours does that equate to? How many years of M.B.B.S. does this imply? Please reply ASAP

I'd seriously consider staying and doing FY2 so you've got backup. If you leave without finishing your Foundation programme then you're unlikely to get into any specialist training.
