UMass Acceptances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I called on like the 16th to ask about the waitlist and I was told that they don't have a ranked waitlist and that the commitee reviews all the waitlist applicants everytime that a spot opens.. so I'm going to assume that they would only meet every so often and fill whatever spots have opened since their last meeting cuz they certainly don't have an emergency meeting every time someone declines a spot.
And the wait continues....

Got the rejection today...dated 5/2. There's for randomness!! Back to the drawing board for me. First things first...move out of Massachusetts! I'm heading to Florida!!

Good luck everyone else who has been accepted or waitlisted!

Signing off SDN for a good while!

All the best.

For the people that may find themselves reapplying this summer, I have to say that D-Bone has the right idea. I've been accepted to 2 other state med schools (1 MD, 1 DO) as an out of stater. Basically, it is a lesson for us Massachusetts folks that there are other states, and they may be more welcoming to residents (and non residents), if it gets to that. Good luck!! :luck:

I think you are right by saying that other state schools are more welcoming - but there is a catch. The reason umass is so competitive is everyone wants to go there. It is an absolute bargain when you look at the tuition costs and the education you are going to get. Remember, they only accept mass residents.

With that said, all schools are very competive and from my experience, it is a big crap shoot. My word of advice is apply early (which i didnt), and keep the schools up to date - show your interest; it makes a huge difference.

Definitely apply early, but I still think Dbone has the right idea. For example, all of the Texas state schools are a MUCH larger bargain than UMass is, there are many of them, their acceptance stats are a bit lower, and because there are several, they don't think too highly of themselves. There are other states like this, too.

My point is really just to think about whether there'd be other places you could go to give yourself a much better chance at a great education for a great value. That's all. Everyone will do what they think is best for them.

has anyone heard of a post-bac at Umass Med.?

UMass Med does indeed have a post bac program.. I did research there with a post bac student a few years back. As far as I know they haven't cancelled the program but I have no more info on it.

Has anyone heard anything lately????

nothing here 🙁

I got accepted this morning via email from the admissions office asking me to call. My status page has not changed.

Oh my. I'm so excited and relieved. Best of luck to those of you who are still waiting!

Congratulations! Alas, there is still hope for you all waiting.

I just got an acceptance call!!

GL to anyone still waiting!!

congrats AMC! hey for those of you with waitlist acceptances, did you do anything special to update your file or have you just been patiently waiting? just curious... (and anxious!)

In the email that I wrote when I accepted my spot on the waitlist, I mentioned that UMass was my first choice. I didn't send them any update letters or anything else special.. I had just been waiting patiently.
Good luck!

After my wife's co-workers found out (a Pedi clinic) that she was added to the waitlist, they wrote her a recommendation letter and sent it to the Dean. My wife also wrote a letter to the Dean also letting him know that UMass was her #1.

Neither of those things got me ON the waitlist so I don't really know that they help much in the end?

Then again, after I wrote one for the school I WAS on the waitlist for, they accepted me within the week. So maybe they only help if you get on the waitlist. Never mind. 😳 I still hate UMass for interviewing & rejecting me 2 years in a row. Sorry guys. Good luck, though.

does anyone know if UMass Med has a certain computer requirement or recommendations?

Hey Shook,

They do not. We spoke with a 2nd year at orientation and asked the same question. He said that there are plenty of laptops to be loaned from the library (up to a week at a time and renew it every week). In addition (as you may have noticed), the library has a bunch of desktops (Mac and PCs).

He said that many professors add their class notes online and some even have streaming videos of the class (or maybe they record and you can watch it later...or both). So, I suppose that you would want a PC that has a decent amount of memory and processing speed, but, more importantly, a high speed internet connection, but that is probably stating the obvious.

i got a letter today saying that there is no longer any hope of me getting in off the waitlist 🙁
