So I'm trying to decide between Umass MS and UF MPH.

Some info about me:
-Bachelors of Economics from China
-Master in demography from China
-Interested in find a light job after graduation, no an aggressive person

Umass MS
-Epidemiology
-more in quantitative
-most faculties are relatively new
-near Boston
-scholarship $9000/year

UF
-Health Management & Policy
-School ranking is better, no information about public health ranking
-in the city I don't know
-May be more costly

Does anyone has experience or heard anything about these schools,
especially about the internship? I am particular caring about how school
help student finding internship.
How is the job prospective for Epi and HMS? Which one has more
opportunities in the market?

Thanks

Epi vs Health Policy and Management. First you need to decide which field you are more interested in pursuing post graduation.

UF is arguably the best school in Florida, and has several connections. Most of their programs strive to get the best internships and job placement for their students nationwide, not just in FL. Gainesville is also small, and mainly a college town that revolves around UF. If youre looking to live more in a metropolitan area, you may consider USF in Tampa, also another good PH school. However, with classes starting soon in the fall, you may not be able to apply.

You need to decide which field, then go from there, it sounds like your background is in business, so is Epi really where you see yourself?

Hope this helps. Good Luck

I don't really have preference of Epi over HPM.
What kind of job will a HPM do? Involving in management? I don't have any clinical background. Or more technical?

I heard some people told me that Epi plays with number more.

Thanks

I went to UMASS for undergrad; one of my majors was in Public Health. I really loved the program and the area (it's very rural, though... I'm from Boston, so it was quite a change). The climate in Massachusetts will take some getting used to, especially in the winter. The school of public health (SPHS) itself is rather small, which is really nice at a large university. In SPHS, you get good, one-on-one professor and administrative support.
Please let me know if you have any questions on what it's like at UMASS or anything at the SPHS. Good luck with your decision! 🙂

Uf is arguably NOT the best school in florida for Public Health. I havnt heard much about the program, but its only been accredited for one year. I did attend there for undegrad. and had an enjoyable experience.
