Jka...just to question your theory,

Have there been any definite rejections as of yet? I see mostly acceptances, waitlists, or no responses.

I interviewed 1/23 and have not heard back yet. I am wondering if I haven't received a waitlist e-mail because A. I am going to be rejected soon or B. I am near the top of the acceptance list.

What a mindf*ck haha

I think both A and B are in play for you right now. All the guessing and speculating is making me crazy.

And TerrierHoya, aren't you thrilled to be dealing with all this in the middle of studying for Neuroscience? I'm not sure if I've met you in real life (I'm guessing you're the other sox fan I see around), but this stretch is absolutely owning me. The work combined with stressing applications has me about at my breaking point. I wish I could just skip the next two weeks and find out how all this plays out.

Based on last year, almost all rejections are saved for May...I also don't know of any rejections yet this year. Based on my theory, your situation could be A or B, OR you are about to be waitlisted (or anything else we can dream up.) I probably shouldn't theorize - sorry - I find it therapeutic but it may just put others on edge.😕
 
There's a poster here by the name of dave that's been rejected earlier in the season. I also personally know of a classmate that has been rejected, but not sure when or when he interviewed.
 
I think we should all march to the admission office today and demand an immediate answer!
Seriously I think I am going to sue the admission office for mental abuse and loss of hair🙂 (feel free to add)

Ha! This made me laugh. I have had a few fleeting urges during the last few weeks to call them up and just beg. Then I slap myself!
 
i interviewed in OCTOBER and still haven't heard anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm surprised no one yet has posted about acceptance/waitlist emails today...

right on the money my friend...makes me wanna quit at life...at least its something to distract me from the voices in my head telling me different admissions theories...

Is it the general consensus that if we don't hear by May 15th and are waitlisted then the chances of being accepted are slim to none? I mean, how many people really decide not to go after they've accepted the offer?

I could be wrong, but I think you have that completely backwards. No one on the waitlist is likely to hear anything until the 15th, at which point there will be a number of people accepted. After the 15-17 rush it seems like it slows to a trickle up until July.

I'm not sure it's that bleak. My guess is it's kinda like a bell curve. After the 22nd or so it'll probably get pretty slow. Just to be clear, this is all based on reading previous year's threads and obsessing. I'm no authority, and there's no real guarantee that this year will go the same way previous years went. As far as I know though, no one has been taken off the waitlist yet, and because UMass can only extend 100 acceptances at a time it's incredibly unlikely that there won't be at least some movement off the list.

I'm currently opting for the prepare for the worst hope for the best approach.

Well sorry to hear you've joined this select group with me. For those that wondered I interviewed in early December and the dirtbags sent the rejection in mid February. (You may not realize it but I'm just a little bit bitter, you probably didn't even noticed until I pointed it out 🙄 )
 
How is it possible that nobody else has heard? Or maybe everyone's just spending their weekend drinking their sorrows away?
 
I have a feeling that there will be more "surprises" in the mail on Monday. My mom gave me the, "well, our mail isn't really reliable on the weekends, so don't get excited" speech.

More waiting. woot. 11 days until May 15th.
 
One way or the other, things are going to pick up in the next week. I'm really struggling with the whole waiting for news process.
 
my fiance received a rejection letter on Saturday. very blah.

accepted to Vandy and Einstein, rejected from UMass... just crazy
 
I am sorry to hear about the rejections. It is so hard not to take every decision they make personally; the committee knows so little about each one of us, yet most of us feel that our fates are in their hands. At least it sounds like many of you have other acceptances, which is more than quite a few can say...

My rejection letter came on Sat. as well.

Especially difficult to understand since last time I was waitlisted and I had higher scores and more experience this year.

Maybe it's because I emailed the director directly instead of the admissions office 😉

I would say this is accurate. Your chances will go way down after the 17th or 18th. Based on last year, however, a few people were moved off the waitlist in early June.

I'm oddly disturbed by the lack of waitlist letters this week. Umass left quite a few applicants stranded, which it has not done in past years after rejections started rolling. Who knows what the next couple of weeks will bring...

How can you tell that there is a lack of waitlist letters? Are you assuming that everyone posts their news? Or do you know something else?

No, I'm not assuming everybody posted their news, but I am assuming that the ~50 posters on this thread represent a statistically significant cross-section of the applicants this year. The fact that 7-8 posted rejections yesterday but nobody reported a waitlist leads me to believe that no waitlists have been sent. It's now the second week in may, and about a third of the posters still have not heard a decision, which is uncharacteristic of Umass.

I could be wrong, but I am guessing you are significantly younger than I, like most premeds. Keep on trying. You probably have a lot more time than you are able to realize now. Take it from an old woman 😎

Yes, but I bet people are much less likely to post bad news, meaning people may not have updated us because they were rejected?? I don't know if I would post a rejection right away.
 
called the office to ask them something about updating them with grades...and they told me something was mailed to me yesterday....sooo....ya know what that means! pencil me in as a rejection...
 
I was rejected. Got the letter Monday; it was dated 5/1/08. I knew this was a long-shot. MCAT was awful since I didn't study for it at all the first time (29R; LOW PS). I'm retaking this month!

So is it safe to assume everybody that hasn't reported their decision yet has been rejected?
 
That would mean that there are dramatically fewer of us neurotic waitlisters checking SDN this year then in the past. I don't know what that means, but I'm sure I'll spend the rest of the day trying to figure it out without anything solid to go on.
 
Or perhaps there are just significantly less people on the waitlist this year? It's not like us neurotic people knew whether or not we'd be waitlisted before checking out SDN.
 
I think you misunderstood me. Regardless of the reason, there are fewer people on here that have been waitlisted this year. Whether that reflects an overall reduction in the size of the waitlist, or just a shift in the group of people on SDN is anyone's guess. Either way, it makes me nervous (which is no surprise since everything about this process makes me crazy). One week to the 15th...

It looks like 7 out of 12 people were accepted off the waitlist between 5.10 and 6.20 of last year.

Welcome to SDN. So far, you are the only person that has claimed to not have heard yet. There are still around 10 people that posted in this thread earlier but did not bother to update the rest of us on their status. Logic tells me that anybody else in your position would probably do the same and post here rather than not, so I can only assume those people were probably rejected. Have you tried calling the office? Perhaps they've mailed your decision to the wrong address/ it got lost in the mail? There's also always the option that you're such a qualified applicant that they're waiting for a spot to accept you rather than waitlist you.

Why are people accepted as late as 6/20? Is it because those who hold acceptances don't make their decisions until then? (So that they lose their deposit?)

There's waitlist movement at most schools throughout the summer. People get taken off a waitlist, then have a week or two to make a new decision, withdraw from a school...

Most of the movement happens around the 15th, but movement later in the year is in no way uncommon. A guy I worked with in the lab got a call from Tulane the day before classes started a few years ago. He got in his car, drove all night, and made it to class the next day. Crazy things happen.

Did you interview the 18th orWednesday the 19th? I interviewed on the 19th during the morning, and I wore a grey suit. Just curious.
