Hello,

sorry for another versus thread. I was fortunate enough to get offers from both schools.
I have been having trouble with deciding which school I like more. I really liked both schools and I know that both schools are equally great (as far as I know). So I was wondering if I can get any advice or opinion from fellow SDNers! Also, get some words from students who are already enrolled in either schools.

Please feel free to give me any recommendations (in deciding school or what to look for in school), advice, or comment on either schools.

Thanks!

UNC is a public school and UDM is a private school. Are you from North Carolina? Even if not, some schools change to in state tuition after one year. UNC in my opinion is a more prestigious and more well known school (even though dental schools are not ranked but still) and the tuition should be cheaper, plus I would rather live in North Carolina than Detroit. Seems like an easy decision to me. If it were me, I would choose UNC but I have never interviewed or seen either school personally. Congrats on the acceptances!

LOL, UMD not UDM. UMD is pretty cheap even as an OOS.

They said UMD not UDM, there's a difference. UMD is a public institute (Maryland) and UDM is in fact a private school located in Detroit. To the OP, sorry I would help you with this great predicament to be in but I didn't apply to any of those schools. Good luck with your decision!

I would go to UNC. It should be cheaper.

If either is your state school, go there, unless there is some scholarship money that changes the typical IS vs OOS economics. If you are out of state for both, you can't really make a mistake. I applied to both as OOS applicant, interviewed at both, but have now been rejected at both also. So well done OP! (no regrets, I am in at my state school). Chapel Hill is a pretty college town, but I found the vibe at UMD more to my liking, and it's closer to the major east coast population centers with all that offers now, and after school. To each their own though. Nice choice.

Thanks for the replies!

Now I'm thinking I should've have mentioned a little more information about myself. I am an international student (from S.Korea) and I have only lived in Boulder, CO. my entire time in the U.S. (except traveling). Because of that, I am considered OOS to both schools and unless I get green card or citizenship out of nowhere, I won't be able to apply for IS tuition anyway. OOS tuition is about the same for both schools. What I am looking for is difference in program, difference in the location of the school, etc.

Please feel free to just throw any ideas!

Coming from boulder - i would go to Chapel Hill based on location and social attitudes of the area. The vibe in boulder is similar to Chapel Hill. I've spent a sig amount of time in both places
Both are great schools, so no big mistake either way, but UNC is not super OOS friendly, so it's a big deal to get in there.
