Hey. At my interview with UMDNJ a while ago, they said we'd have to get a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop for school. I just received my big orientation packet in the mail today and it mentions on the schedule that laptop/scrubs will be handed out. The thing is, I already own a Thinkpad T series which is a little over a year old and would like to use it instead of buying a new one from the school. Is that allowed or are they going to force a new laptop onto me even though I already own a high performance version of the one they want me to get? If any UMDNJ student could answer that would be great.

I asked the same question at my interview because I too have a very powerful lappy that will blow the doors off the Lenova we are getting. I was told that we are required to get the school lappy regardless. I believe that the goal is to eliminate any factors that interfere with your studying, as their lappy is fully insured, includes 24hr tech support, is warrantied for the full four years, and has a provision for loaners in case yours needs repair, is stolen, etc....

Yes, you are REQURIED to "Buy" UMDNJ's laptop, even if you have your own. The post above is exactly correct. The school wants evryone to have the same model, and they quickly provide loaners that are pre-loaded with all of your dental books, in case your loaptop breaks.

Hope it helps,
