i've been accepted to umdnj-newark and wait listed at jefferson, tulane, and still waiting on nymc...i just wanted to see what you guys think of these schools

I think you should go to UMDNJ 😛

welcome to SDN 😀

Tulane, far and away.

I would rank them:

Tulane
Jefferson
NJ (cheaper)
NYMC

But I recommend you go to UDMNJ since it's ur only option right now. 😛

Your right. If he only gets into UMDNJ , then he should go there.

hey guys thanks for the feedback. can you elaborate as to why you ranked them the way you did. i'm really split between tulane and umdnj, and i really liked jefferson, although i thought that was a reach school when i applied back in june.

Tulane has a better reputation and the students seem a ton happier there. Also, the weather is great.

I have waitlists but I'm not that optimistic! If you're looking for a "just in case":

Tulane is not ranked on USNews because they don't supply information to them. They are ranked 16 on the Gourman Report. It is a top notch school with happy students, good clinicals, and a great education (and nice weather).

Jefferson also has a great rep and good clinicals. I don't remmeber if they rank on USNews...but it doesn't really matter. I'm just using that to put these schools into perspective.

I would choose NJ over NYMC because I'm guessing you're a state resident and it would be cheaper. I don't know how their reps compare though.

I'm not quite so sure it's about being optimistic or not, just being prepared to sort out the schools just in case i get bumped off the wait list. I'm happy i'm in somewhere, whether it may be my state school or not--besides Newark has some great clinical years as well, esp. for what I'll be paying. By the way, I also like the students down at Tulane, but eventually I would like to do a residency in New York or the Northeast. Would Jefferson make it easier for me to accomplish this, say over Tulane? What do you guys think?

I think Jefferson and Tulane are comparable and both excellent schools. You can't go wrong if you get into either of them. 🙂

p.s. Hi proffit

docsdaname,

As far as I can tell from the experiences of friends, it is not very hard to get a residency in NYC (if this is where you want to be in NY), so you probably don't have to factor that in much to your decision.
